A superb looking model on a fantastic layout. Loving the photos at speed.
Given your abilities at weathering it would look good with a very light dusting on the roof and maybe a few characters in the lit coaches as you have with some of your others.
As always a pleasure to look at.

I've got to agree with Kelly this does look a superb model.
I held off ordering as I didn't really need one for my planned southern based layout and couldn't justify the expense.
Now I'm exceptionally jealous of you guys receiving such a mouth watering model, this has got to be an early contender for model of the year.
Well done to all involved with bringing such a fantastic project to fruition.

Number 4 now on ebay.

Thanks for the reply coachmann, the BRM article suggests using Halfords spray and giving the model a good scrub with washing up liquid.
Hopefully Halfords do a suitable match for SR coaching stock green
Thanks

Hi all this talk of paints has me worried. Following the build article in BRM and seeing some of the excellent models in this thread, I finally took the plunge and am about to attempt my first kit, an SR booster/ class 70.
Now I understand this resin kit on a rtr chassis is possibly a bit low brow in comparison to the excellence demonstrated regularly here, but could you please advise which types of paints, cleaners etc.would be safe touse on such a kit.
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

The final three livery variants are illustrated in the March issue of Model Rail. (CJL)
Suprised you went for Colas, Drs and Virgin!
Strictly tongue in cheek.

For those who have found just the right model car for their train, but it is only available in one colour.
I wouldn't think by the time those cars arrived they were still very white!
Mind you a couple of years later they would have all been rust orange!

Thanks to all for the replies about third rail.

Excellent news from Peco. One question, would bullhead track have been used in conjunction with third rail running?
(As in southern third rail not dublo three rail)

Dave when I saw the first two pictures my immediate thought was that they were of the real depot especially the driver in the hst in the second photo
Exactly what I thought.
The sunlight on that HST is spot on, your photos and modelling really are inspirational.

Great work Phil, you've finished up with a good looking 73.
Now if you'd just like to forward this to Dapol for reference for a second batch....

Looks like it is possible to make a silk purse out of a sows ear!
Looking forward to seeing the refinished article Phil.

1942, according to the book on oil traffic by rail which the HMRS were selling off at Warley.
Great, this means that I could possibly run with southern liveried loco's.

Thanks for the information, these are certainly good looking tanks.

What sort of era and location would these have run in?

Will you please stop taking photo's of the real thing and passing them off as models, you seem to be a repeat offender.

My bank balance is no hurry. Both the S15 and O2 hit my cc bill last month. As did Bachmann Parcels van.
Bit like number 11 buses.
I know that feeling, an S15 a long awaited E4 this month and a 02 due in December. The longer they take with the Adams the better.

Good lord that looks complex!
Mind you I suppose major London termini are, keep up the good work.

Excellent work Gwiwer, makes a good looking model look superb.
Looking forward to receiving the green version although sorely tempted by the Bulleid black.

After waiting for an E4 two arrive at once.
1 in green from the wife for my birthday and Birch Grove off eBay for about £25 less than the cost of joining the collectors club and paying for the model.
Both look excellent to my fairly limited knowledge.
For those quibbling over the price you pay your money and make your choices if things sell out don't moan about limited supplies, and if you get a bargain lucky you.
No one is in business as a charity and costs must be met particularly if the business is to continue.

Email from Hattons Southern green s15 order processed. Should be on its way.

After all the great pictures of the BR versions and seeing that Hornby appeared to have sold out on their website, I couldn't take the risk of missing out and have pre ordered the SR version from Hattons.
If there are any Br black version's left after Christmas I might have to relivery one into Bulleid sunshine black unless Hornby announce one.
It's been a very expensive few months for Southern modellers.

Have just seen the EP in the latest edition and my word that looks good. It does seem that these locos had the most complex motion ever!
Now looking forward to receiving mine which I'm sure will look superb in Sunshine black.

Hi Andy,
Just thought I'd post as I've been following this thread from the start and enjoy it immensely, Pencarne is really coming on a treat.
As I'm new to this layout building lark I'm finding the step by step pics a real help, the ballasting in particular is really good.
Keep up the good work

Hornby ex LSWR/SR Adams 0415 Radial
in Hornby
Posted · Edited by Spannerman
Apologies if I have missed this elsewhere, but are either Hornby or Oxford Rail producing the Adams radial in a southern livery?
I don't know if they ever ran in southern black with bullied sunshine lettering but this would certainly be my choice.
