  1. I did exactly that with most of my paintings. But even that can be a pain especially if you've varnished it. The weave in the canvas can create a nasty moire effect.
  2. Once more with feeling.
  3. Thanks, sometimes, no all the time, it looks quite different on screen. Hence me playing with lighting setups.
  4. Apparently the police are looking in to a break and entry.
  5. Think that's stage one complete.
  6. It looks like you have made good progress to date. Getting the structures in place is a large part of the project. As was said earlier, no matter how good the plan is, things will evolve along the way. And that's one of the advantages of a 'freelance' project. I was exactly the same with regards to the electrics and point motor fittings. I put it off for as long as possible. But in the end set myself small goals and gradually achieved them. Now I'm dreading painting and ballasting the track and finding out that nothing runs on it.
  7. Congratulations on reaching page 200. Long may you continue to impress us all with your skills.
  8. A different angle.
  9. Still on stage one but I think it's getting there.
  10. Right! That does it, I'm off.
  11. Wow, that's more than a crowd.
  12. And there I was, thinking I was only one. Now there's two of us Chris.
  13. AKA, chicken or egg or Who's on first?
  14. As most layouts are fixed to a wall and as obvious as this seems, I'm finding that the order of placing/building a layout is very important. A strict plan for what to work on first is really important. It's so easy to ruin something you've finished, whilst reaching over the top of it. Maybe we're not all as clumsy as me though.
  15. Thanks Graham. I spent 40 years in an art studio, in an advertising agency Even though the hours were long. I managed to keep the hobbies going, well almost. But I retired 4 years ago so my time is finally all mine.
  16. If you ever get the chance, you can check out my work on instagram. #gdamerum
  17. This is exactly why I got back into the hobby. TBH, it's a three dimensional painting I'm after achieving.
  18. Thanks Grahame, there's no rhyme or reason why I guess. Last year the distraction was diy stuff mainly. Plus several early morning rides around the docklands. Got some stunning sunrise pics as a bonus.
  19. This is exactly what happens to me from time to time. For some reason last year, I just walked away from the layout for 6 months. But felt a great deal of rejuvenation once I got back in the saddle last November. So totally get this.
  20. Mine too! Maybe I'll get one also.
  21. Disclaimer: No trees were harmed during this project. We wish to point out that we have no connections with the Gravett family or their publishers. Other tree building methods are available.
  22. At this stage, I feel I should point out that I'm following the methods shown in Gordon Gravett's excellent book.
  23. First time using this method. On my last layout, 30 years ago, dried hydrangeas covered with Heki Flor was the order of the day.
