And Christow Station is home to the Exeter & Teign Valley Railway heritage centre https://www.teignrail.co.uk
Quite an interesting collection of things Colin has built up there over the years. I was pleased to see the little shunter that worked at Exmouth Junction coal concentration depot parked up near where the footpath crosses the site a couple of weeks ago:
@KeithMacdonald - Great thread sir!

Next stop on the Teign Valley Line : Ashton Station.
Because of the way the line was opened in sections at different times (Heathfield to Ashton in 1882, and to Exeter in 1903), for a while Ashton was a terminus. That might explain why of all the stations on the line, this is the only one with an engine shed. The line was extended from Ashton to Trusham a year later in 1883, well before the section to Exeter opened in 1903. But the engine shed remained at Ashton, not Trusham, which was the terminus for 20 years. Ashton also had two sidings and a crane.
I guess this picture is from the north end of the station. What's the building on the left? Looks too small to be a goods shed.

400 yards north of Ashton Station was yet another quarry with its own siding (for a while). This was Ryecroft Quarry.
There were plans in 2003 to reopen it, but locals objected.
The recent photo shown above is actually of Christow not Ashton Keith. It’s taken from the bridge over the line.

There's been some great progress on the new (third) issue and, fingers crossed, it should be available before the end of the year (hopefully providing some Christmas/New Year holiday reading).
I'll post up information here as soon as it is confirmed.
Not sure how I’ve missed this but I’ve just ordered issue #2 off eBay. It looks really good. -
Did somebody call a cab..?

A good friend of mine used to run a R/C model plane shop. He had a book of Cloakroom tickets, which could be stuck on the box of a purchase, so the purchaser could claim it had been won at a Raffle, at work / club / pub on the way home etc.
Interesting to note how many had been used!! 😆
Julian
Well that’s just supporting his customer base. I definitely approve!- 3

Well I had to have a go at this.
It turns out that sunlight is difficult to replicate though when you’re holding a mobile phone and a lamp as well as trying to zoom in with a cracked touch screen…- 28

A marvellous picture. I remember such a pre MAS scene well. It's the only picture that I've seen of the David and Charles coaches. Does anybody know what became of the Gresley pigeon van?
Yes it’s at the Severn Valley Railway now. There’s some useful information here:- 1

Those hills in the background are a little reminiscent of the rural bits of the West Somerset Railway to me.

A friend just sent me this. I don’t know who took the photo and I don’t know who’s van it is but that roof weathering is inspired!

I can think of at least three of us in my group of friends that’ll be each buying a class 45 in 1980s condition when they come out. Great news.

Love the cab lights on in the Transit
Has the 45xx lost its cabside number plates?
That one of 73050 had me fooled at first
Some of the stuff on this thread is absolutely mind blowing.- 2

The one going from the cylinder to the Smokebox is the exhaust and the other one comes from the boiler mounted regulator on the opposite side to the manifold inlet into the steam chest.
I'll hunt up some other pictures later to show the arrangement
And below shows the gear change lever and intermediate gear
So good John.- 1

Remember how on page 2 I said I thought my trackplan was as good as it could be after so many years of planning? Well last night sat looking at the fiddle yard trying to work out where I could stow 3 inter city MK3 sleepers (if I buy them) I had a bit of an epiphany.
Anyway, little bit of trackwork carried out tonight, no additional track or points needed.
I've included a pic I've done on Anyrail. Anything not labeled (grey) is sidings which converge back to the mainlines on the otherside (out of the picture).
So this change means The 3 car DMU (Exeter to Barnstaple) goes under Cowley Bridge and off the scenic section then can pull into the red siding (Barnstaple) and wait to return, or park up off the head shunt. It also means the track cleaning wagons (x2) I had in the other siding are now just off the main line with only one set of points to reverse over before they can begin the track cleaning. This is much better than reversing them over multiple points. It also means that I can have another loco siting in that siding waiting to take a turn on any incoming passenger trains; or freight. I have another siding on the other side for the same reason.
Oh, and the sleepers; there's loads of room in the top fiddle yard if they don't go in this siding. There's no need for the DMU to park up so the sleepers can stay there ready to be brought out for the sleeper service.
A minor but very useful change Bob.- 1

Interesting seeing a GWR design of loco next to a blue and grey coach.
