Alsop-en-le-Dale (third time lucky?): a return to the drawing board
MrWolf replied to Tortuga's topic in Layout topics
What Justin said. It's going to make the layout seem much larger and allow the trains to disappear into the landscape, better for the illusion of reality. -
Nearly five years on and I still get presents from the memsahib, just because. Those little things are more important than season tickets, Rolexes and Lamborghinis. She's been on a site visit today, saw something and thought of me. She's adamant that she found it amongst the fallen leaves and NOT fixed to a big fence ...

Most will get the detail treatment. I have a damaged 2721 that will become an 0-6-4 crane tank, probably Steropes and another which is going to become 4-4-0ST No13. Why? I'll think of something!
-
It would seem (Thanks to The Sheep Chronicles) that I have seven operational panniers and another three in bits. So I probably need another one.

That has to be one of my favourite views. I do like the kindling for lighting up, I don't think I've seen that modelled before.

I don't think that it would make it over the river bridge, clearance wise, never mind the weight. The Churchward mogul only just squeezes through. When I win the lottery, perhaps I'll build a stretch of the GW/GC joint line? I do think that the bitsa loco is rather inspired and ought to pass for a never was BR Standard with the tanks fitted.

I'd forgotten about that film, Alec Guinness in the adaptation of Joyce Cary's novel. Anyone who does a bit of painting (like I do) ought to find a copy, because they will have met characters like Gulley Jimson. My most recent encounter was being introduced to an erm, artist at a local pub, I got the third degree about my own work and when I enquired what he was working on at the moment his airy reply was: "I haven't painted anything for about five years, but I have been preparing canvases for when I am ready to make art..." At this his little entourage squeaked with delight. I smiled politely whilst quietly recalling my time in Africa. I carried a gun back then.

That makes me think of a single frame from a 1950s British movie. Cracking job.

Callow Lane - ex-Midland freight-only line in South Gloucestershire
MrWolf replied to Captain Kernow's topic in Layout topics
I put the link in for my photo and it automatically embedded the picture for some reason. In my defense, it was hard to make our if it was 43 or 48 on the phone. It does look like the Forest of Dean, but it's the site of Glenfield station on the Leicester & Swannington Railway. The train is actually running on the old passing loop, the platform is in the bushes to the right. Ahead of the train bottom left was the very short coal siding. This is the station before it closed in 1928. https://images.app.goo.gl/6upsG4xuCgwfXD5S8 -
Schooner's (Mostly Maritime) Musings
MrWolf replied to Schooner's topic in Pre-Grouping - Modelling & Prototype
The last house I bought was empty, no chain for me or the seller, but it still took over six months to get the keys. -

A bit late to the party, but here she is in 1962: -
Not quite, but when I get annoyed with myself because I've misplaced something vital, eg, 517 class sandboxes or BSA oil feed banjo bolts, I apparently turn into a "WhereWolf" ...

I like the casual statement, someone, somewhere has to get lucky with it, just by the odds, like they were buying a fourth hand Cortina.
