  1. Many thanks, regards a name for No 34... hmm can't say I've thought any more about that, my attention has been taken up somewhat with the sound decoder side of DCC and finishing the coaches.... along with a need to complete a customers showmans engine rebuild and other parts orders knocking on my door. I need to get on with some paid jobs to generate the ££ for the next decoder for either No 4 or No 34 can't decide which .... No 34 might leap frog the queue on that one, although No 4 is first... Oh I don't know, I need to sleep on it
  2. I also to anoy the office sometimes write up reports useing Roman numerals... I must be odd...
  3. And now the coaches are lettered, the one that will be the PW Department coach has the lettering on in the same place as this coach will be weathered to reflect its story and conversion to departmental stock In a day or two these will be varnished ready for the next stage of paintwork.
  4. I went for DCC in the end (I should have thought ahead with my wiring when Exhill was DC) simply because as a fire alarm engineer I enjoy the technical challenges and wanted to add background sound - birds, machines etc and sound in my locos to add the final touch
  5. Much as I'd like to, I have other commitments on weekends, in theory it wouldnt be that hard to take to a show as the boards are only 48" long or there abouts... But Exhill is probably going to remain as a home layout ... I am pondering a YouTube channel as a virtual exhibition...
  6. That's proof enough that LM exists in a parallel universe where time stands still, and their world is flat
  7. I regularly convert Decimal currency to Stirling much to the amusement of my apprentice who has no idea what I am talking about - 'you are Soooo old'
  8. All sorted, realised that either side of the points is a baseboard gap so removed the no non relivant bridge wires and rewired the track feed as the above photo, tested and all good. My next puzzle is if i select loco 7635 The Baldwin and have the sound running thats fine she can now sit on a siding with its own feed supply, select loco 1000 The battery loco and run this one which dosnt have sound, when i go back to select 7635 the sound cuts out and the light and I have to restart her sound again... does this mean I need another hand set to keep both locos live or is this what it is with just the one hand set..
  9. Ah OK Paul So seeing as my track is already in situ if I cut a slot with a dremel disc and fit a insulating shim that will solve the first problem I guess then rewire my jumpers past there as shown.. So my theory was almost right, but Id missed out the isulating gap
  10. DCC HELP PLEASE Just a quick bit of advice - seeing as how ive asked back in December regards DCC, so it goes like this the two chassis have now been sorted and one has a bassic no sound DCC and the other (The Baldwin) has a full fat sound etc all set up and working well... Ive fitted the front plate module to the board and all is working having rewired from this into the track supply block, turning all the old fashioned section switches to 'on' how ever when Exhill was built I hadnt thought through where I would be now and this was set up as DC so I now need to keep sidings live when the points are closed to them to allow for Playing shunting and the sound fited loco to stay 'live' I thought ahah if I wire a jumper from one side that is neg to the opposite track this will solve the problem - Wrong! dead short when I close the point, so where am I going wrong, The attched picture shows the supply and the arrows show where I wired the jumper wire to and from.. Below is the track plan

  13. Charford was a classic, wasn't it originally built in a caravan? I often think of that every time I am on the Axminster - Bridport road
  14. Proberly a blessing in disguise.... for at least one day people will be (a) better off and (b) fitter
  15. Quick question on Zimo sound decoder run on a Powercab ... how do you turn the volume down as its a bit too loud, according to the data sheet from Digitrains it's in function 27 but when I select the function in the sub menu F20 - F28 it doesn't ajust the volume, do you have to do something to make the function stay in the selection of F20-F28. F10-F19 works I am useing the Ruston 48 sound project

  21. How about this... just a quick shot... Fred D having a final check up while the fire dies down - the fire bed is a 'toasted' orange CD case (part of) with some strategic placed lumps of genuine welsh steam coal, this is backlit along with the ashpan, both the ashpan door and firehole door open And a daylight picture to compare. My steam loco build No34 has a large flywheel directly behind the firehole door (which doesn't open) I've drilled air holes for the secondary air in ghe firehole door then painted the flywheel red / orange. When I get the DCC set up for No34 I intend fitting a small bulb inside the firebox
