  1. Do you have a photo of the bridge and it's current signalbox?
  2. Interesting. Pulling of in one direction cleared the opposite also? Do the photo's you have or the technical paper give details of how the bridge is supported when open to rail? Did the centre pivot carry any load when open to rail?
  3. I've just had a quick stickybeak at Google Earth looking for the site of the bridge. Is there a buoy centre stream to mark an underwater obstruction/remains of the centre bridge support?
  4. These pontoons were quite common years ago. They had hooks on the square end so they could be linked into pairs. There were quite a number converted into houseboats on the Ouse. I have a feeling (and i remember the painful splinters) they were made from ply. I have always wondered what their intended purpose was. Something to do with WW2 i'm sure.
  5. Oops I will confess to only having a quick look at the photo. The A4 and BG are in Carriage Siding No1 and standing on the toes of 26 slip.
  6. I'd say the A4 and BG are signalled away from Peterborough. Crescent Junction 64 distant is off. This would have required a 'line clear' from Fletton Junction. All the stop signals in the section to there would be off. I believe 64 could only be cleared to the up fast, not to the up goods or to Nene Junction. This short train was heading south and not shunting.
  7. I have a feeling i may just have seen original drawings for some of those buildings. I'll try and revisit where i saw them and get some pictures.
  8. The floating bits of the Forth Bridge make an interesting read.
  9. I've been able to source imperial sizes without too much difficulty so far. I have recently bought steel for tappets and bridle irons of the correct size.
  10. Super! These welded steel brackets are a favourite of mine. Within the next year or so i hope to be making one myself in 12 inch to the foot scale. I have drawings and these have been shown to a steel fabrication company. The ballpark figure quoted i'm sure is cheaper than recovering one, possibly 50 to 60 years old, that has been burnt off at ground level, that will need repairs, extending, shot blasting and painting.
  11. Back in post 831... On my travels lineside i came across this.. A fogman's hut still in situ long after the signal it was used with was last fogged.. Located 10 miles from the A1 north of Peterborough.
  12. I do have a complete set of new ones that were liberated from Cambridge stores in the good old Collectors Corner days that i may find a use for at some stage. Hopefully a 22mm rotabroach will sort the problem..
  13. Here are the remains of a clearance bar that was still in place 41 years after the junction points it protected were removed. The track was relaid on 03/12/11.. A little more information here.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/32297024@N08/6441015161/in/set-72157628467397817/
  14. I can remember shooting over the bridge in my early motorcycling days (1983-86?) and catching a glimpse of that brakevan. Nearly fell off the bike trying to get another look.
  15. It is most likely it had not been recovered. I found the remains of a semaphore fog repeater next to a running line around two years ago having survived resignalling in 1992.
  16. There can't have been too many colourlights that were fogged..
  17. Dusty (Derek) Miller scrapped possibly hundreds of Vanfits on King's Lynn docks. Nearly all the van bodies were sold off as sheds etc. He used to deliver van bodies with, i am led to believe, a skip lorry to the purchaser.
  18. As long as all the drivers do we'll be fine. All it takes is one who is keen not to delay his passengers and one to drive to the conditions.
  19. As i've already said...What happens when they can't see like during fog or falling snow?
  20. I finally ran out of excuses today and took a trip on the damn thing. I travelled just after lunch and was lucky to get a seat. What is it like during peak periods? If it becomes popular i wonder how they will increase capacity? Our journey was spent behind a Whippet bus probably around 440 yards ahead. No one was prepared to answer how they would maintain headway in fog/falling snow. Considerable interest was shown in the former train staff.
  21. Today's plan for me is to head out there and have a ride. We'll see what happens.. I'll take the last train staff along for a ride also.
  22. One of my banners in action.. Can you do a movie of you rather superb model?
  23. A couple of pictures of one of those odd looking signals.. Unfortunately some joker has changed the enamel arm to something totally inappropriate...
