Recently I've got myself a secondhand DSLR camera and a macro lens for layout photography. I'm getting some nice clear shots with the camera on a tripod and the smallest aperture possible (F32). Here's some of the first shots.

The one on the left reminds of the old Hastings line gauge. I've gone for an NSE one nevertheless as the livery hides the difference quite well

The split box 40 is my favorite loco, and I just managed to catch 40135 in departmental service when I really got into railways in 1985, numbered as the eponymous 97406. I also have 40139 and 40143 in the fleet. I also like the flush fronted refurbished 37/5s and 37/7s but I’m glad they didn’t do all of them!

Yes! That's it! Looks quite strange without the headcode panel doesn't it! The slightly lower middle windscreen, too!

You could have one 80 class or 2 Class 40s instead! 😄 -

Anyhow, back on the subject of the coaches, I noticed the stay alive function on the lights being mentioned before but wow! I'm thinking of using one of the coaches as a night light on the landing! Very well done and I'll do that when I light up my other coaches. So good not having the lights flicker. -

Accurascale 37066 (converted from 37027) heads off-shed. It has the correct single rivetted boiler compartment roof section courtesy of a swap. The interchangeability of parts is one of the great things about this model.

One important aspect of the AS Mk2Bs is that I will be needing to install lighting into all my other coaching stock. There's something magical about running them 'at night'. -

Thank you. A trick that I worked out when I filed a little too much off the windscreen aperture is to spray a little cyanoacrylate activator onto cab front and apply a little superglue to the bit I need to build back up with a cocktail stick. It cures almost immediately and is easily sanded down with 320 or 400 grit wet and dry, so I just kept tweaking the edges until they looked right. The compound curves on the likes of 37s/40s and 47s is one of the reasons why it's taken so long to get models that look right. Now we have the advantage of laser scanning, CAD and CNC tooling manufacture which means we are getting very close to the real thing now. -

My long term Class 304 project is moving forward slowly. I used the DC kits ends but wasn’t happy with the subtle windscreen shape which I filed out too much, so I’m having a second go at them. They’re deceptively difficult to get right but slowly I think I’m getting there. -

Indeed! The 47 is a design classic. The 86/6s that have been exported to Bulgaria are getting flush fronts, LED lights and look quite modern too. Excuse the Faceache link but you can access it without an account https://www.facebook.com/express.service.ood/ I’d actually like a couple of 28s, one in GSYP as preserved D5705, but also a blue or GFYE example which wasn’t very flattering on them but I kinda like it. -
Just bought enough for all my 40s.

In my view, almost all British diesel and electric classes are good looking, even 31s which ooze character. One exception that comes to mind is the Class 28 ‘Object’, but it’s still a fascinating class and I’m on the lookout for a Heljan one. The Fell is another example. -

After years of dating and relationships I realised I actually preferred being single, then the pandemic happened and I rediscovered railway modelling. It’s a marriage made in heaven. 🙂😇 Being older helps too.- 820 replies

Some nice Mk2Bs courtesy Accurascale. Another part of the plan to gradually accumulate rolling stock for when I extend the layout.

Here's the two I bagged. I have some 2Cs on order more in keeping with NW England so I'll have a nice little rake. Looks like I'll be fitting some curtains soon! -
Yes, it’s a full detailing kit. Use that and the Shawplan windscreens and fan grille will give you the best 40 you can get, though I tend not to use the fan grilles due to old sausage fingers here picking up the loco in the wrong place and ruining them! They are extremely finescale.
