  1. A very good show. Having bought a ticket for Sunday I found myself in the vicinity on Saturday afternoon so paid on the door, had a good look round and snapped up a couple of 20s. I then went back on Sunday morning first thing and had a proper look at the layouts while it was less busy. Alexandra sidings, Euston Junction, Splott, and Hills of the North were my faves. It was so good I went twice! 🙂
  2. “I don’t need any more 31s!” say he. Then an AS IC Mainline one gets snapped up and I’m eyeing up the Bachy sector-liveried one! Confessions of a locoholic, part 134.
  3. For those who can’t wait… http://silverfoxmodels.co.uk/class-89-co-co-british-rail-crewe/
  4. The panoramic view from the passenger seat of my Dad’s car on the M6. The 20s looked really alien when I first saw them as a kid. Especially the ones with headcode boxes.
  5. By sight, Navigation Road Station in Timperley and the Black Bridge over Skelton Junction. By the sound, from my house not far away. 25s and 40 s mainly which then gave way to 20s and 37s. Class 304s on the former MSJ&A to Town. AC locos and AC and DC multiple units at Piccadilly. caught the end of the green/blue changeover period, but only really got into knowing them properly in the mid eighties.
  6. As an aside, I think the cabs on Falcon may have been based on Class 31. Imagine one without the connecting doors and with 2 cab windscreens. I remember an article back in the 80s where somebody kitbashed it from a class 31. It looked good too.
  7. I’d say that both models are produced during the same factory production slot and it would be uneconomical to split the run into two.
  8. Yes, I think it was very likely a case of 'great minds think alike' and coincidentally, both 31 projects probably started at about the same time.
  9. I fixed mine with superglue and activator but I only applied the activator on one side with a small brush and glue on the other. I just did it by eye without slackening the screws, the logic behind it being that it would be in its final position so less stress on the repair (in theory anyway). I’ve fixed bufferbeam pipework that way too, especially Class 37 MW cables that I’ve forgotten about when removing the body.
  10. It’ll go nicely with my backdated 37415 and numerous AC electrics in IC executive, too!
  11. I think it was a wicked ploy to befuddle us people viewing picture on a tablet or mobile phone!
  12. After banging on about not needing any more 31s on a certain other thread, the IC Mainline liveried one has tickled my fancy so why not!
  13. I'm after one that makes a whistling sound. Not like Roger Whittaker did though.
  14. The look great. I just couldn’t get over the droopy cab windscreens on the Heljan Peak. I would have liked 45106 but they’re outlined in silver/light grey which makes them stand out even more!
  15. 40060, the one that didn’t get preserved. Oh for a lottery win and a time machine!
  16. We were alright in Timperley, just the sound from 25s, 40s, 20s and 37s reverberating from the chord on Skelton Junction!
  17. I presume the fugly toughened driver’s windscreen variant will be produced at some point. They looked especially hideous in banger blue, but thereby lies the attraction. https://www.railwaymagazine.co.uk/7635/brush-type-2-sister-dora-moves-to-spa-valley/
  18. Nothing this time round for me, but the green 20s reminded me about the recent blue and Railfreight Class 20s so will be on the lookout at the Donny show. I do like a whistling wardrobe almost as much as a whistling bucket!
  19. It’s quite a good way of splitting the run of a particular livery as it’s presumably only the printed details that differ.
  20. It’s a nice model, but it came too late for me having preordered 3 Accurascale ones. The main issue I see is the prismatic windscreen glazing, followed by the sugarcube speaker arrangement and the RRP, though retailer discounts will help level the playing field a little. It looks like this will hit the shops before the 25 so that is a little disappointing if true.
  21. The Oxford connection may prevent this, but I'd like to see a rerun of the PHV ICI hoppers. They were the first "goods trains" that I remember and I'd accumulate a full rake in advance of extending the layout so I can run full trains when I do. 22. I think the Hornby 86 was mine. The 31 will be getting a stay alive fitted as I found a couple of places where it stalled. Just added one to a Railroad HST and what a difference it makes.
  23. The latest 40 has a great thrashy sound file, but it needs a lot doing to it to get it up to scratch. Whilst I enjoy that sort of thing, the class really deserves a new model, especially given the sheer number of variations. The CADs for the KR one just aren't up to scratch yet, but I'm in market for a retooled Bachmann or new Accurascale one to go with the detailed Bachmann ones.
  24. Just needed 2 or 3 applications to bulk it up. I've attempted to do the seam around the lower cab roof sections of my Class 81 project by masking off the bottom 1mm, but it needed 3 or 4 coats before it stood out sufficiently.
