Hasn't stopped raining for what feels like a week so the etches have gone on. Which isn't very noticeable in a still picture but makes a world of difference when light catches them in movement.

I am doing things in the wrong order. The flush glazing is now in but I will only concentrate on chassis and bogies for light brake dust weathering. The roof does need a repaint though.

Nothing spectacular re the cab.. I just threw some bits together to give the impression of a back wall and engine room door.

Currently looking for best source of buffer beam detail and how to improve the Lima warning yellow front which is always an issue on these.

  2. I thought I better pit some updates... First run out of the box was surprisingly smooth (if a little noisy) and also coped fine with peco finescale

So a full strip down of the dry motor and it now runs as silky smooth as possible and a lot quiter. In the mean time the following has happened. Etches attached - flush glazing in place and sockets ready to go in for DCC conversion.

With axle boxes painted and all etches attached. Probably doesn't look much different in the photo but in movement the way the etchings just catch the light and add depth really makes a difference.

Next it time to get the socket in and test it with a blanking plug in place. Don't want to fry a sound chip. It previously sounded like this though after a full service it's now running a lot quieter.

  4. Again pics don't really do justice but just trying out the fox etches in the layouts lighting makes a great difference.

One immediate issue though is the Crewe cats and number plates are printed way too large by Lima. Now my last t cut effort on a Lima model left me with a yellow plastic mess. So I will live with it and touch up later when I look at light weathering. The Crewe cats by the way are a real delicacy to cut away.

  5. Ok I have to admit it looks a lot better in the flesh than in a picture but the first element of upgrading the 47 was fitting flush windows.

    PXL_20230719_192009433.jpg

Axle boxes have also been corrected, though I seem to get some pics where all three have been painted , some where the middles are not and some there no 2 ends middles were missed..

Now normally I would have glazed after weathering but this was kept in such good condition I couldn't help diving in.

Waiting now for etches and 8 pin sockets and chips

  6. Been digging out some older Lima 47s and DCC sound fitting and the usual extra pickups. But also want to add details.

Radio antenna, oleo black buffers, (can't think of the term but) the textured door kickplate, wipers (already have flushed glaze ready)

The etched footplates lamp irons and nameplates, nums etc I have had no problems but the rest seems to be defeating me.

Rule 1 - Heritage line - Stabling whilst the charter is turned around at Tunstead. 🤔 Or RES 47 Prince William waits for the road tanker to arrive to refuel before taking a charter back.

This old Lima is having a scrub up to DCC with sound, a full etched pack from fox and new glazing and buffer detail. Weathering will be limited but I am wondering looking at pics if I should go for a more glossy finish

Which "water" did you use in the stream please?

    David

Woodland scenics murky water pour.. I was able to get a part bottle from an n gauge project a friend is working on.. It's good and easy but I'm unsure now how to go about adding ripples.. A few you tube vids seem to suggest PVA on top and a hairdryer but I now don't have any spare to experiment with 😂

I'm very much enjoying this layout but despite a quick run throughth I'm not sure if a trackplan has been lost since the thread started but is there any chance of one with some dimensions as well - thanks.

    Chris H

Yes unfortunately I didn't keep copies then of pics or the drawings and relied on the site.. 😣

I'll try to re do it for you if I can remember the software I used lol..

  10. Think the extra ride is due to the extra detail published today re how the credit was  helped along by castlenau ,(Guernsey investment company)

Castlenau in effect have brokered a deal that allows Hornby to be the majority shareholder in two years (option) whilst giving warlord shareholders an exit strategy. Having a definite framework on both sides will allow some extra confidence but as has been pointed out before looking at Hornby shares as any reflection of anything is meaningless.

  11. Tbf there is no doubt Hornby was shorted over the Thur and Friday hence the final 20% rise today. Issue is they were shorted from low to lower anyway which is hardly a good place to start.

Most of that will fall off tomorrow as the profit is attempted to be cashed quickly. I say attempted because share volume is an issue with Hornby and always will be.

As you say Hornby share prices are pretty much indicitive of nothing. The warlord acquisition seems to be just what it says. Portfolio expansion tied into credit/debt extension and lengthening.
