    EBay madness

They bought it today for £110 plus auction fees... I watched it go through and wasn't tempted to buy it at that price! That said, if they do sell it, a £250 profit before eBay fees isn't to be sniffed at!
  2. For what it's worth, the items sent on 27th Nov are now all delivery made or attempted. Of course, I refunded two buyers so am £85 down. One has promised to send the money for the item (but hasn't yet) and the other has maintained complete radio silence, just putting in the claim through eBay and ignoring any attempts to communicate with them directly.
  3. And just to add - many of my buyers have actually been very good - patient, and staying in touch. I'd not be happy in their shoes, either - but it's out of my hands completely.
  4. Several hundred pounds is sadly, across many items - most of which are under £30. I don't mind losing the occasional £5 and have never previously had an item go missing - so have been happy to use second class to reduce costs to buyers. I don't use the collection service, sadly. It's slower than taking it to the post office.
  5. Since the strikes this last few weeks, I've had a few items not delivered - sent on 27th Nov. As my wife has thrown the receipts (proof of posting) away, I'm not even eligible to claim anything - and am likely to be several hundred pounds out of pocket. Disappointing - but I'll be keeping the proof of posting in future. I had thought that it being scanned in was sufficient for them to be sure it had entered the system.
  6. I've recently ended up with a couple of Tri-ang 00 gauge clockwork locos which came in a job lot which I bought for some other locos. They aren't tinplate, but use the same plastic bodies as some of the electric Tri-ang locos (diesel shunter and steam saddle tank). More on the Tri-ang range can be found here: http://tri-ang.co.uk/indexlocoC.html I've been quite impressed with how well they run - easily completing a lap of my 4m x 6m loft layout on a single wind and maintaining a sensible speed rather than a speed fast enough to mean corners are a worry! I've put them on eBay for someone who will appreciate them more 🙂
  7. At least your buyer tried to return the item. I listed a packaged kit which was marked on the packaging as being O gauge. The buyer just left me neutral feedback stating that it wasn't O gauge. If he had contacted me, I'd have been happy to give a refund rather than the bad feedback.
  8. Thought I'd share a couple from my collection - bought at auction, so I can't lay claim to the conversions. First, a Tri-ang Nellie... Chassis and body are shortened and it runs a Mashima motor. Unfortunately the chassis is twisted, so it only sits on three wheels at a time - I'll attempt to rectify this at some point. Next up, a 'Smokey Joe' modified to represent 30458 Ironside...
  9. Great stuff :) It is possible to remagnetise the original motors, if you can find someone with a remagnetiser :) I've a couple of plunger princesses waiting to be given a bit of TLC
  10. Thank you for a fascinating thread :) Does anyone know the PO number of the above kits? They, sadly, don't seem to be available any more but I love the look of them.
  11. I have quite a big fleet of locos, and for ages I resisted buying a magnetiser. Eventually I bought one, and it was well worth the price. I've already lost count of how many locos I've used it on, but in the long run its far cheaper than buying the neodymium magnets if you have enough locos to use it on. I've found the triang 6 wheel (class 31 and 37) bogies often benefit most from it, along with anything Hornby Dublo. Most X04 motors last well but even then many show an improved performance when remagnetised.
  12. Brilliant work. I've a similar model of 10000 using the Flying Scotsman chassis :)
  13. Most older cars are dwarfed by anything modern... Here's my Rover 3500 being eclipsed by a Renault Clio at work a while ago 🤨
  14. I tend to list items as auctions rather than buy it nows, but I sold some lovely locos last week which really didn't get as much for them as I'd hoped - around £30 less than other equivalent sales for a few of the locos, despite what I thought were good pictures and description. There are still bargains to be had - perhaps it being near the end of the month when they sold didn't help. I've listed a few Hornby Dublo compatible 3-rail kit built locos starting tonight, and am a bit worried they won't make what I feel they are worth now :) I think it comes down to patience vs price. I'd rather sell a loco in a week at a fair price than wait 3 months to get a tenner more for it... and some items are very hard to value - as I found when I sold a Lima starter diesel shunter for nearly £40 on an open auction having failed to get any offers when I advertised it for sale elsewhere at £20 :)
  15. I too fell foul of that a few weeks ago, but wasn't even offered a credit! Recently I've been selling a few locos and have had a spate of people complaining about locomotives running poorly and requesting returns, despite the adverts stating that they were in need of a wheel clean and service. One took 4 days to pay, but requested a return 4 hours after receiving the locomotive. Puts me off selling anything else to be honest. My first returns in over 500 sales.
  16. Those look to be just the thing! Thank you. I've had another gent offer me some, so I'll see what turns up there. If not, there's no hurry and we can get in touch in March Thanks again
  17. Hi folks, I've got a few Tri-ang wagons which have been re-wheeled with modern metal wheels, and I'd like to go back to the coarse flanges as they work better with my track laying skills and pointwork... These are the ones I'm after: I believe they were used on a few different bogie wagons including the Chlorine/Caustic tanker wagons, the welltrol wagon/depressed centre car, and the brick wagon to name a few. They must be the plastic bogie type with pinpoint axles rather than the early metal bogie type. I'm hoping someone here has converted a wagon or two to have finescale wheels and has some in their toolbox! I need enough for 3 bogie wagons. Happy to buy or to swap for the low profile ones. If anyone has a scrap chlorine tanker wagon I need a few of the safety valves from the top, too... Thanks
  18. I bought one of these probably in the late 90s. It was always a terrible runner, not a patch on the triang loco drive models in my collection. It stays resigned to its box today, replaced by an airfix kit with a brass chassis powered by an XO4 motor.
  19. I have a Trix Western with stripped idler gears - if anyone has a source for these I'd be interested in some too
  20. I'd say that one of the reasons Tri-ang won is the sheer play value of the range. Not just railways for serious people, but some of the other items: Battlespace was introduced about 5 years before Dublo ended - the range eventually including rocket firing wagons, turbo fan car, plane launching car, exploding wagon, satellite launcher, helicopter launcher... Not to mention other 'normal' wagons such as the giraffe car and mail coach. How well battlespace etc actually sold I don't know
