  1. Thanks Colin, I’ve dipped into that reference before - it has some fascinating stuff.
  2. Sorry to hear about the problems. If it makes you feel any better, I think that retaining wall looks fantastic!
  3. Ref the retaining walls, try taking a look at Scalescenes and Scale Model Scenery.
  4. Yes that sounds about right Rob (don't know about CR Mk II though, which may move somewhere else in the country...) I've added transfers to the latest two cattle wagons now. I've used Pressfix on the LMS wagon, and the waterslides that came in the Slater's kit for the ex-MR one (which even includes some rather nice plates for the solebar). I put a layer of clear gloss varnish under the waterslides, and was expecting to need to spray matt varnish on after, but I think I might not have to actually. I'll see how it looks in daylight. Just a shame I cocked up the build of the ex-MR wagon and somehow managed to get the buffer beams too high! You might have noticed that there is no tare weight on the the Parkside wagon - I'm afraid that concocting tare numbers from Pressfix transfers was beyond me today 🙂
  5. Not modelling related I'm afraid, but I wanted to compliment you on cleaning up that GSM. And also to ask, how did you clean up the ribbon? (I have some that need some attention).
  6. I don't suppose I'd ever really run a train that long into Chuffnell R (in its present form, anyway), but I just fancied putting all the cattle wagons together to see how they looked! But your mention of the cattle market does remind me that I still need to come up with a back story for the layout...
  7. Thanks gents, I'll leave the light grey one as it is in that case!
  8. I've been tinkering with the paint on the two new cattle wagons, and decided to give them a run on the layout... Which has got me thinking that the grey on the LMS wagon (last one in the train) is actually too light. I'd be interested to hear what others think, but I'm inclined to splash some slightly darker grey on it. The other wagons are a bit of a mix as you can see. Starting off with a Parkside kit, then a couple of Bachmann RTR. Then three more RTR from Dapol... And finally another two Bachmann RTR, the Slater's kit, and the Parkside kit.
  9. I'm not sure that they are the same Bill, but I think they're similar in size. Which is what makes me think that the wall-mounted lamps might also be a bit large?
  10. The only thing I'd caution with the Gaugemaster lamps is that they might well be overscale Bill; I considered them for my platform lamps, see this pic: The ones I've used are the Dart Castings lamps in the middle.
  11. A little bit of progress. The first two platform lamps have been painted, with Railmatch dark and light stone. I added Glue and Glaze to them as well, but you can't see it in these photos. The lamps are only dropped into holes in the platform, and not glued in place.
  12. I suspect there is some allusion being made to the EM fraternity...
  13. That all sounds pretty positive Jonathan. Hope the move to LRI happens soon, visits will be good for morale!
  14. I hadn't thought about it to be honest. Ideally I should have enough wagons (and cattle) to make up one empty and one full train, I suppose...
  15. The second cattle wagon has now had a blast of grey primer. I'm going to leave it this colour, as I don't want the two to look the same. Some weathering will bring them a little closer, but still not identical greys. The roof isn't fitted to the LMS one yet, as I still have to paint the inside.
  16. That’s a good point Jonathan. I’ll give Alan some feedback.
  17. Which reminds me that my Toads need side lamps as well!
  18. In another not especially breathtaking development at Chuffnell Regis, I added a guard and rear lamp to the LMS brake van. The lamp is from Modelu; I don't like the lenses supplied with these as much as the ones I received with other lamps. Previously the red lenses were nicely tinted, and had a self adhesive backing. These are a semi-translucent pink colour, and have no adhesive on them. So I popped a dot of red paint onto the lamp and then glued in the lens.
  19. I really must pay more attention!
  20. When did the viaduct get its nameplate? I must have missed that...
  21. Nice - but rather brave I thought!
