  3. I'm a firm believer in create the content you want to see. I remember the wild west days of Youtube in 2009-2010 were everything was a lot less regulated. Watch time was more important then clicks or views back then which suited gaming channels. Now things have moved on but quality content is more likely to get people coming back then some of the stuff the mind-numbing "popular" channels post.
  4. Most people when they say freelance think of a small project like an industrial company or a what if pre-grouping railway but I decided to come up with something slightly different. A whole new continent to build my miniture railway empire. Hopefully over my life time i can build bits and pieces of my world in model form, making the various lines and locos that will exist in this fictional world. The first step is having an idea of the basic land shape. I have went with two large landmasses as i like the idea of having a viaduct connecting the two landmasses joining them up. I am planning to set a lot of my modelling in the early days of railways. This kingdom is just starting to embrace the railway. So i am thinking the 1850's to 1870's would give me this quaint period as i am having it spread across the whole map. (I have provided a map of my concept) I might end up changing my mind and model a later period...who knows. I am planning to include some 2-2-2, 4-2-2, 2-4-0 and 0-4-2 tender engines for passenger workings. Some 0-4-0, 0-4-2, 0-6-0 and possibly larger engines for freight and mixed traffic workings. 4 and 6 wheeled coaches will be the standard but i might sprinkle in a few bogie coaches....i'll see how this fictional history evolves. Goods wagons will most likely be converted ready to run ones just repainted. Now to start making many place names and giving each location a main industry for the railway to serve. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Oh also fun fact i forgot to mention is the UK is having an Aging population which means less people are being born and more are living longer.
  6. Yeah this is quite similar to my experience of many members of my local model club being too friendly and with a lot of anxiety that isn't helpful. I'd rather that than conflict but slow steps to not overwhelm new members.
  7. Yep and social media isn't inherently bad its just the sharing of ideas...just sometimes the wrong ideas. rant over i do feel more young people would get into the hobby but i just think they feel the older modellers look down on them.
  8. As an actual young person I am 19. The biggest factors stopping other young people entering the hobby is lack of money, public perception and well the skills needed. Most of my generation adore technology most of them would look at you funny if you told them they had to create something. I think most like the finished product already there and are intimidated by the idea of getting it wrong. Or at least that's my silly personal opinion.
  9. My first train set was a tomy thomas one but my first Hornby set when i was 8 or 9 was the Southern Star
