  1. Why can't people on here actually read what is being said ? They could also be a bit less confrontational in their responses & use a little politeness. I said it looks to be in poor condition - looks - my opinion as a layman. And before a qualified English teecher comes along I am aware of my spelling mistake. I have seen pictures of many similar arched bridges that have been hit by trucks carrying such loads as steel ISO containers where the containers have been serverly damaged & the stonework suffering no more than a few scrapes.
  2. They look like some form of servo to me, but I could be wrong (& probably are).
  3. However, bearing in mind the incident it should also have a length limit. It looks like to me that the white vertical & horizontal markers are missing from one side of the bridge (just commenting).
  4. Yes, but not by much & no match at all for a substantial stone structure. & before anyone picks holes in that statement I drive both fridge & curtainsider 18 tonners & am more than aware of the structural strength of both.
  5. Maybe they do, but I'm referring to the signage in the image.
  6. Working as a part time HGV driver last week (in the food logistics sector) I double manned with another driver. In the course of conversation the subject of "how long would it take for the effects of a 100% strike by HGV drivers to be seen ?". The other driver reckoned about a week. I reckoned about an hour from the time it was announced - an hour for the selfish vultures to swoop on the stores & clear the shelves. Food (or in this case lack of) for thought.
  7. Not condoning the driver at all (the bridge looks low anyway) but that signage does not show how the "clearance" varies from the crown to the sides. To me, it only looks like 10'9" (if that) at the crown, not the sides. Looking at the bridge it looks in porr condition if a relatively flimsy truck body is capable of doing that sort of damage.
  8. Just to add to Kevins post - A conventional bulb/lamp/globe can take overvoltage within reason & for a short period. However, a LED will not & you get no second chance.
  9. I did not intend to make this political & my quote re : "Final Brexit" was meant to be more of a datum point. I apologise if it was taken out of context. In simple terms the HGV Drivers rates will need to rise & better conditions offered. There may be alternative long term solutions but in the meantime we will shortages & may very well need to prioritise deliveries & choose between McDonalds Milkshakes/Nando's Chicken** & basic foodstuffs. ** Both these companies have recently been bleeting about these issue.
  10. Up to "Final Brexit" the logistics industry employed a high proportion of Eastern European Drivers who were prepared to work longer hours for less money so wages for UK drivers remained low. Now, a high proportion of those have gone back to their home countries, making the shortfall even worse. Now, the logistics industry has a huge problem it helped to create. There is no quick solution, it takes time to train suitable candidates to drive HGV's. In the interim, the better companies could up the wages, keeping their existing drivers (there is a lot of poaching going on at the moment), recruiting drivers & even tempt retired drivers back. Companies coulod also make better facilities for drivers & (as a small example) stop buying vehicles without A/C , decent radios & well equiped cabs (yes, I know some drivers don't derserve it). Also, pay a bonus percentrage for the unsocial hours worked (getting up in the middle of the night for staring at 02:00 to 03:00H starts, weekend & bank holidays worked. Another issue if the fact that HGV drivers could work as a limited liability company making efficient use of tax allowances - HMRC has now closed that one off.
  11. Many of these are supplied, at least in part by the likes of Blackmores,.
  12. I've saw 4 of them last week unloading at one of their depots - each one was full to capacity.
  13. Nicely turned out locomotive & i do like the "whitewalls". Is it me or are the smoke deflectors on the wrong way round ?
  14. Fuse rating is part of the visual test (as is checking 13a plugs for having shielded pins).
  15. There are many people out there who have "done the course" but no amount of (expensive) "training" will teach experience which is why we have examples of class II being failed. On retrospect I do agree that the controller depicted could be fine for use by someone with practical electrical (as opposed to electronic**) knowledge if proved to be safe within a controlled environment, but equipment like this should never be used by the general masses. As for recycling, then there is the local recyling facility (after the slegehammer). ** I have known & met quite a few very knowledgeable electronics (as opposed to electrical) engineers & few of them could be trusted to even replace a 13a plug.
  16. My comments were simply based on what I read posted & I have no intentions of quoting specific posts. FWIW, I like automated layouts myself (& used my own system tailoured to my needs) & my only experience with the "competition" is deciding that none of the available systems would suit my needs. However, I would be interested in how Railmagic operates. Maybe the fact that the developers first language is not English has some bearing on how he "came over".
  17. The fact that there is no rating plate or any other indication of what it actually is is enough to fail the first "test" of a PAT - visual inspection. Also, FWIW RCD's are not the be all & end all - operating the "test" button is a very basic & inaccurate test as to the effectiveness of the actual device.
  18. I would hazard a guess that Railmagic has "finished" with this thread. Whilst a lot of the questions &/or comments have been fair & helpful quite a lot that have be unconstructive to say the least. If some of the contributors had been a little less hostile then I'm sure the thread would have been more informative. Clearly, Railmagic is not for some & these members will never use it, so why pick holes in it for the sake of it. Let Railmagic develope their system then when it's fully available, take a positive & constructive look at it & then decide.
  19. A friend of mine does PA Testing & this is a perfect example of why he does not carry out safety tests for modellers. It may have given good service in the past but as things have moved on time for it to go. Failing it could cause bad feeling. My advice would be to remove the mains cable from the plug & crush it with something like a sledgehammer or dispose of it at the local waste recycling facility.
  20. I am simply pointing out some facts that some people may not be aware of. Also the facts that the savings that people used to make buying from European retailers may not what they used to be.
  21. GM are not the "bogeyman" - the discount structure for Flesichmann for example has not changed since retailers bought direct from Fleishmann. Roco now follow the same discount structure. If you want to look for a bogeyman look towards the European manufactures who favour european dealers in both price & supply.
  22. In the past yes, it was often cheaper, but we are no longer "in the past", so, again, give the UK retailers a chance.
  23. Could be - the telematics are capable of doing that, probably when the power take off is engaged but personally I feel it would be better if they cancelled when "driving" & the driver had to re-engage them.
