  1. Surely, if sea levels are rising they are only going back towards where they were centruries ago when they receeded by nature without our influence. The Great God Hornby's HQ are on the Isle of Thanet which back in Roman Times was a "proper" island - still techically an island with the River Stour to the south & a glorified drainage ditch to the east. Go back even further England was part of the european land mass.
  2. Bearing in mind that most model railways are "condensed" then to me the speeds need to be a little higher than "scale" to "look right" - but certainly not at the Hornby Visitor Centre velocity. FWIW Fleischmann used to produce a "Tacowagon" for recording speeds/distances - a simple dvice with a "sort of " stopwatch activated by a reed switch & a tiny magnet on one of the axels.
  3. I completely agree. Totally uncalled for comment by melmerby on an report involving the tragic death of a human being & life threataning injuries to another. Especially when it is quite clear that the text appears to be a "google" type translation.
  4. Could not agree more - all too often newbies/newcomers ect ask as simple question & get overcomplicated replies.
  5. M & R Model Railways certainly supplied Fleishmann Tender drive units to Hornby in the mid 70's.
  6. On a more positive note, both of us are looking forward to the next episode. I enjoyed seeing the "Battle Space" models & had a chuckle at what the H & S people would have to say about them today. My exploding car from my childhood is probably still in orbit after I loaded it with the contents of around 10 sixpenny bangers ! Have not seen a Heavy Duty Ramming Spike for years & still on the lookout for one. Also nice to see some of th models I had years ago, the Rocket & the US Woodburner to name just two. On the subject of the Merchant Navy (& I'm still not too sure if is it intended to be a scale or nostalgic model or a bit of both ?). If a scale model what about the huge gap between the locomotive & the tender (or did the fireman have a very long shovel ?). Is it on an existing chassi ? Is the tender plastic bodied ? DCC Sound/DCC ready ? (although probably not as issue as sadly, I suspect very few of the 500 will ever be run or even come out of the box, the box design which I thought was a good move. As an HO European mainland modeller I would like to know if they will show any of the HO products - maybe, someone with inside knowledge will know ? I have to say that the current Rivarossi/Late Lima & Jouef offering are up there with the bst.
  7. The public are not allowed to play with all the layouts. No excuse not to run decent length trains - if the track is laid to a decent standard & the "train set" bends dispensed with then there can be no issues. I agree that the Visitor Centre mostly looked after by the shop but the admission charges would more than cover the costs of someone to pay a bit more attention to the layouts & even be able to ansawer/offer advice questions that the paying publicis would appreciate. Hornby have missed several trick with the whole setup - quite a few people I have spoken to that have been to the VC have very similar veiws. The programme itself was pretty good overall, pretty good compromises between what the "serious" modeller & the "public" like to see. Mrs T enjoyed it too
  8. I use the Z21 Black - I'm not too certain if the App is different for the z21 White, but I suspect it may be. I'm pretty certain that the x21 White does not have a separate programming track but as long as you only have 1 locomotive on the track at a time you should be OK. You may need to reset the z21 to communicate with the router - press & hold the button on the front until it starts to flash purple. Also, you need a physical network cable between the router & the z21. I would download the manual from Roco & double check everything you have done so far, The European loco motives already showing are what the unit comes with ex : factory.
  9. It's probably down to projected sales. Personally, I do like a lot of stock from Ep's I & II, but it forms very little of my own collection.
  10. The driver should have been jailed for life (I say that as an HGV driver). There is an argument to increase the "barriers down to train arrival time. Of course you could then argue that increasing the waiting time could encorage impatient drivers to "take a chance". If (God forbid) I dropped a real clanger & ended up in that position I would take the barrier out - far better than the chance of killing someone. Rather be in a tanker full of effulent than an oceans worth.
  11. During the function setup process you select either ; Push/Touch to turn on - Push/Touch again to turn off or Push/Touch & hold for as long as you want the function on or You can set for a timed period with one Push/Touch. I'm certain that the limit of "vehicles" is 100 in the stack using a tablet/phone/WHY with the Z21 (Black) Not too sure about the Wireless Multimaus but I think it's around 40 (anyone else confirm/correct please ?)
  12. You can "double man" & keep the truck on the move for (up to) 20 hours in a "day" - HGV drivers will understand the "whys & therefores". However, not always practicable when you factor in the 15 hour duty spread & daily rests. HGV drivers often have a 15 hour duty spread (in fact I did a 14 hour one yesterday), but combined with a 03:00H start I need a "me" day off the following day.
  13. Generally, I set the CV's in this order after the address (initial settings in brackets) ; CV5 (100) CV4 (50) CV3 (50) CV6 (50% of CV5) CV2 (0) Usually, I fine tune each CV before moving onto the next. Works for me. However, my fleet is 100% European Mainland Models so, thinking about it, it may make some difference but lets not go there. FWIW the two locomotives I have that have Zimo Decoders fitted are both Roco, both very light 4 wheel locomotives - a Glaskasten & a Koff. I purchased Zimo for the two reasons - the Lenz equivelent was out of stock at the time & I wanted to give Zimo a try. That's all I have to say on the subject really. Feel free to have the last word.
  14. A shame about the diesel & OHE's but I suppose all the wiring & electrics were beyound economical repair & maybe some components unobtainable.
  15. Not my experience of them, but at least you admit that Lenz are as (or can be) good as Zimo. It takes usually takes me less than 10 minutes to set up a Lenz & that includes acceleration/decelleration/top & mid speed/starting/light intensity for automatic running.
  16. One thing to conider about card readers - the £20 end ones need to be used with a so called smart phone which of course needs a phone signal which varies depending on the network & you still have data to pay for on the phone. However, if you go for a card reader in the £80 end you do not need a phone - the reader comes with a "roaming" SIM that will use any of the networks depending on signal strenth. The transaction fees include the data & no monthy rentals. Neuther require PCI compliance.
  17. That was very informative & thanks for posting the link. I wonder as to the fate of the other locomotives that suffered in the fire ?
  18. I would recommend that you purchase a couple of Gaugemaster units - they are guaranteed for life & a good robust basic controller. Howevr, if you really want super fine control go for Morley (but they are pricy).
  19. I still find your post unhelpful in effectively telling the OP he needs to replace a decoder he has already bought. People have different levels of sucess with different methods & equipment. We both seem to have had opposite success rates with Lenz & Zimo. I would be the first to agree that once you have tried with what you have then it's time to look around. I can get a Lenz Silver or Gold to turn "pole to pole" (why you would want to do that in practical terms is beyound me) so "Playing around with speed curves, acceleration rates etc" (your quote) may, as I've already said give the OP the prformance he wants & is happy with. I note that you have ignored my comment about setting up Zimo decoders compared to Lenz.
  20. A pretty unhelpful post. At least we could try & help the OP & then if he cannot get the performance he is happy with then suggest a different decoder. FWIW the few Zimo decoders I have are nowhere near as easy to set up as Lenz or ESU.
  21. I would try lowering CV5 to something like 25 & CV6 to around 12 & see what difference that makes. What settings have you for CV's 3 & 4.
  22. Apparently Faceboot, Instragram & WhatsApp are down because people have been panic buying zero's & ones !
  23. We have not yet discussed the merits of dismantling custard creams or bourbons & re-assembling the halves with the cream to make them thicker......... (don't have to do it with Oreo's now though).
  24. I've read reports that if it does it will result in at least £6.75 worth of damage to Sheerness.
  25. Re : Heljans response at Warley. My experience with them a long time ago (regarding a fault with an HO Nohab) was very similar which is why I will never buy another Heljan product. Based on my experience they simply do not care.
