  1. You could say at all type 2's look the same, all Peaks looks the same, 47's look like 56, 81-86 all look alike ... I'd much rather have a new MU than a retool of a previously released loco
  2. I've had good results in the past with Xtracrylic but my last bottle seems to have been pretty poor - just wouldnt dry matt at all. Alcad 2 is even worse. My go to now is Mig Ammo Lucky Varnish, haven't had a problem with it
  3. I've seen this conundrum coming for a few years now... People are expecting new models to be accurate to tiniest detail, yet still expect the model to go round train set curves. No disrespect to those who have 2nd radius curves, I have a couple that are around that tightness. Some models will need detail omitted or only partially represented to negotiate these tight curves, and/or will need increased ride height. I'd personally have the model correct and deal with whatever issues that throws up myself.
  4. There is this amazing thing on the internet called Google
  5. On my latest layout I've modified my Peco points for DCC, but on my previous one which was built for DC use then subsequently converted to DCC, the points are as supplied. I know shorting can occur with older stock with wider tyre profiles, though in years of exhibiting I never experienced any at the points apart from being set the wrong way. I power my points using servos under analog control, and use nothing more exotic than a microswitch to change the frog polarity.
  6. I lost a friend, it took years for his remains to be found and identified
  7. If someone stood in front of me and told me 9/11 was a conspiracy, they wouldn't be able to speak again for a very long time
  8. 107k subscribers, but how many of those are enthusiasts? How many of those actually watch his videos? People subscribe to anything, subscriber numbers mean nothing. I put a video up a few years back of nothing in particular just to try uploading, about 30 seconds long. Had 19 subscribers. Makes you wonder how many people subscribe/like anything on social media that have no interest in what ever the subject mater is
  9. I love conspiracy theorists, when I'm having a bad day I just tell myself 'it could be worse, I could be fretting over a non-existent conspiracy'. No matter how bad my day is, theirs is worse!
  10. I've never sprayed Kleer over Railmatch, but had no problems brushing over - I find it settles completely flat even when by brush
  11. In overall terms its a simple upgrade, but it would cost a lot more money than you'd think to implement.
  12. Thanks for posting this .pdf, very interesting - all those 25kv EMU's make me tremble! What I found interesting was the line about the market "At present Hornby and Lima take more than 55% between them, the former mainly due to brand name". There are so many people that buy only Hornby, and so many people who haven't heard of any other manufacturer, I wonder what Hornby's market share is these days. It was also interesting to read that Replica noticed the resurgence in interest of teenagers in the hobby, and also the fact that they were planning products that would be perfect partners for other brands' stock (3rd rail EMU's)
  13. Many moons ago I had a Nissan Sunny (G plate) that I ran on a shoestring (a threadbare one at that). Cheapest remoulds were all I could afford, yet this car was the most competent car I've ever had when it came to driving in the snow, including a 4-wheel drive Audi
  14. The Hattons 66 is a great model, but is also flawed in the lighting for the bug eye versions, so to correct that you either have to be confident with soldering small electronic components, or buy an aftermarket circuit board.
  15. Bachmann is part of a large company as you know, and in large companies, small changes cost a lot of money! The 66 would need redesigned circuit boards, modified tooling for the WIPAC's, extra components, testing and even literature alterations. Every product has to account for itself and what may seem like insignificant changes to us consumers, can quickly grow arms and legs at a business level, and each of those arms and legs cost money! The folk making the aftermarket kits are enthusiasts who aren't out to make a living from selling them. If they were, they would cost a heck of a lot more.
  16. You cant cost your time/skill on improving your models unless someone else is doing it for you. Surely its much better spending an hour doing it yourself to get what you want rather than waiting 3 years for a retooled version which may not live up to the hype? Bachmann changed their first generation of 24/25 to add lighting, and the new models were more expensive (if I recall correctly). Im certainly not asking for development to be halted, I would expect newly tooled models to have all the correct lighting displays (preferably with prototypical hues), but older, good, models don't need to be retooled just to add lights and nothing else.
  17. I fully agree, but if Bachmann were to retool to include prototypical lighting on their 66, it would come in a lot more expensive than an existing model plus an aftermarket kit. Buying these extra bits and pieces keep these small traders going, and they are a massive part of the hobby. Of course the other side of the coin is that too many people just don't want to do any modelling at all, to me, that is their loss. Dont get me started on those wanting lighting on steam loco's!!!!
  18. They do on modern stock, and stock refitted with LED lighting, but on older stock you could hardly see the lighting, even in the dead of night. On the majority of diesels you couldn't light both tail lamps at the same time - up until the 90's I think? Earlier on some specific loco's (47/7 in push-pull service) If folk really want lighting on existing good models, spend £20 on a lighting kit and support a cottage industry, rather than waiting years for a new loco, with lights. that will cost a lot more that the current versions, and may not turn out as good! Ive disabled the lighting altogether on any of my stock that has it. My layout is set in the early 90's with more stock with original lighting than WIPAC, just my personal preference.
  19. I don't understand the fascination with lights on models that can hardly be seen on the prototypes
  20. Why is there always negativity on here whenever new developments are announced on the network? Would you rather nothing was invested and the whole lot disappeared so you could moan a little more? Seriously, get a grip These business providing services need to make money, the general public just want to get on a train as cheap as possible with the minimum fuss. They dont care about the name or what words are described to promote them. All they want to hear is 'cheap'
  21. I think you need to take a close look at photo's of the real train and the photo of the Hornby coach above. I've been hearing that for 40 years. You do realise that there is a thriving 2nd hand market, you don't need to buy brand new, and you don't have to buy everything thats released
  22. Being someone who has 'experienced' Sam in person, I never want to meet him again.
  23. Im sure I read that a standard run is 504 units, though Im not sure if that is across each manufacturer
  24. Agree fully with this! Sometimes if Im doing something I'll try it the way I've seen someone on youtube. Sometimes it works great, other times its fit for the bin, but as you've said we are always learning new things I think the only railway modelling videos I regularly watch are Everard Junction's, I enjoy his presentation and the fact that he revisits and reworks stuff he's previously done if he's not happy with them. There are lots of things he does that I sometimes suck my teeth at, but overall I enjoy his videos and always look forward to the next release. Oh and his video of the Mk1 Granada he restored, stunning!
