  1. It’s a good Masternind question. Question: What 4 Vep was built but never ran in that form in traffic? Answer: 7739 which after construction but before running in traffic yielded coaches to form 8 Vab 8001. 7739 wasn’t reinstated after 8001 was disbanded in 1975, only 7741 and 7742 which had also yielded vehicles when 8001 was formed.
  2. DRS 66s on this years West Yorkshire circuit. 9th October and it's 66432 on the blocks at Bradford Interchange with 3S22, 19.55 Gascoigne Wood Sidings to Hall Royd Junction... ...with 66429 on t'other end.

Gosh. LJK Setright. There's a blast from the past.
  5. I guess there’s a sense of irony that the OHL has been designed for future 25Kv conversion, but that the MML to Sheffield is now unlikely to be wired in the foreseeable future. Well not until HS2 reaches South Yorkshire and that is still some way off.
  6. There's an interesting 6 page article about HST depots in the November 2017 issue of Railways Illustrated.
  7. I completely agree with your A to D list there, but would add; E) Manage effectively the relationship with their overseas manufacturers to ensure timely product delivery F) Proactively rebuild and develop the mutual business relationship with their 'bricks and mortar' distribution channel
  8. That particular livery is 'old hat' now. It was applied to class 350/4 units when the TransPennine Express franchise was a joint FirstGroup/Keolis operation, which ended on 31st March 2016. A new livery reflecting the sole ownership of the franchise by FirstGroup was introduced from 1st April 2016. I suspect that you'd probably like that livery even less, as shown on the following photo of 350404 at Manchester Piccadilly on 18th May 2017. Liveries tend to be very 'marmite' IMHO.
  9. A few quick snaps of my Blue/Grey 4-TC which arrived this morning. Very pleased with the model.
  10. Hmmmm. That sounds like a pretty sweeping statement if ever there was one.
  11. It's called 'Yakety Sax' if you want to get it lined up ready for the occasion. I used to put it on when I wanted my kids to hurry up and tidy their toys from the living room carpet !
  12. The AnsaldoBreda V250 for the Dutch and Belgian railways is another example, although it would appear to be mostly, but not entirely, down to manufacturer incompetence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V250_(train)
  13. I've suggested this to my 'nearest and dearest' when my time comes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJUhlRoBL8M Courtesy of Eric Idle and Monty Python's Life of Brian.
  14. Tunnel vision. 45108 seen from the end of the platform at Bury Bolton Street approaching Bury EL Tunnel on 23rd September during the East Lancashire Railway's Autumn Diesel Gala. 40145 is stabled on the left between duties.
  15. Looks like there’s the possibility of another transfer on 28/9. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K13613/2017/09/28/advanced
  16. No need to use a short-circuiting bar on this occasion.

If Junior 4630's experience is anything to go by I completely agree with you. Why is it that in the UK primary and secondary schools' the history syllabus seem to focus pretty much solely on Henry VIII, Elizabeth 1 and the Victorians? He has studied each of those periods at least 3 times over his academic life so far. They're important in UK history, I know, but to the exclusion of other periods in the country's history? It seems as though the history syllabus, certainly below A level, seems to end with World War 1. Personally, up to GCSE level I think our youngsters should learn more about 'modern history' - and I would define that as principally the period since 1900. And it should cover far more of a 'whole world perspective' rather than the pretty narrow and insular UK view of the world.
  18. Following the use on 1st August 2017 of double-headed Class 56s instead of the usual Class 60 on the regular Lindsey Oil Refinery to Preston Docks and return bitumen tanks, Colas repeated the working on 21st September 2017. 56105 leads sister 56096 across Thornhill LNW Junction at Ravensthorpe along the Calder Valley with 6E32, 08.55 Colas Ribble Rail to Lindsey Oil Refinery.
  19. Indeed. In my experience they're a model (!) of how a business should be proactive and communicate effectively with their customers. I've made a 'phone call this morning which has been dealt with efficiently by Kernow. I'll remain a happy and loyal customer.
  20. Widnes Vine Yard is IMHO another very good example of computer control which permits 'proper operation' more akin to the real railway, i.e. the signaller signals and the driver observes the signals and drives appropriately. But as with all things in our hobby, 'go with whatever floats your boat'.
  21. More transfers in the schedule potentially taking place this week on Tuesday 19th and Thursday 21st. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K13613/2017/09/19/advanced
  22. Nice composition and great tonal range in that B&W.

The cynic in me would think that's because two out of the three cars involved were scarlet. I like Christian Horner's quote in that ESPN story. Too right.
