  1. I have a Roadvan kit but have yet to make it up. The Kernow one will be very welcome when it finally appears. As for the “New” brakevan I will certainly buy one in LSWR and one in SR. The former will replace an elderly scratch built model from the 1980s, when LSWR transfers did not exist as far as I knew.
  2. Thank you. In the 80s I built several LSWR Wagons and did some research to get the right colour. HMRS brought out their Southern Liveries publication about that time and I followed that. Very useful.
  3. Yes plenty of room. But in order to remove the tender body you need to unplug the micro plug which connects to the loco. Additionally when you replace the rear bogie to the tender the wires to the pick up on the wheels need to be positioned carefully to avoid trapping them under the bogie fixing screw.
  4. Very pleased with my Sir Francis Drake. Tested it DC yesterday and one of the slowest running analogue locos I have seen. Today I fitted the Hatton’s NEM 652 4 function decoder. Fiddly but not difficult. Runs even better now with Digitrax system.
  5. August 1930 according to Peter Swift’s Locomotives in Detail - Lord Nelson Class
  6. I can also replace my 1980s attempt at scratch building. Obviously my major problem was finding LSWR transfers.
  7. An original S15 sounds good to me. 0395 kit builds are still around but they are shown up by more modern 700s for example
  8. I don’t know but they certainly do something for me l have more M7s, O2s, Radials, Terriers etc than I really can justify!
  9. Don’t let us get too bogged down in minutiae and technicalities. The question was Quote Hi, I'm getting to the point of needing another throttle for my layout. I'm using a Digitrax Zephyr with a Utility Throttle. My operators don't particularly like the utility throttle, but at the moment the full digitrax throttle is too expensive. So, what are the alternatives for a throttle that works with Digitrax and what would people recommend? Simon unquote. My Club had the same problem. One answer is the Digitrax LNWI which is sold by respected DCC retailers and provides a cost effective way of providing additional throttles. End of story. My observation is that it is fun and simple to use and set up. Simon can make his own decision based upon the information provided.
  10. Quote Smartphone Apps via Digitrax LNWI device, which is a direct Smartphone interface (ie. skips the computer out, uses the same smartphone apps as above). BUT, the LNWI device isn't licensed for use in the UK/Europe, is not going to be (says Digitrax), and would be illegal to sell here (no CE marking on a radio generating device, however that doesn't stop some dealers from selling illegal stuff), so you'll have to find a way to get one here and not care about the legalities. Its probably less of an electrical noise issue as it just uses the WiFi bands, so unlikely to be causing interference to other radio systems. unquote This is not necessarily true. I have purchased 2 LNWI this year from Digitrains of Lincoln. Both do exactly what is expected of them and without interference. One is on my home layout and the other on a Club layout. The CE marking may have limited validity in the UK anyway after next March. Certainly I can’t see any trading standards officer entering this murky area. At under £80 including postage this has to be the way to go. I have installed WiThrottle on my iPhone 7 and even an old iPhone 3GS. WiThrottle lite is free but I splashed out on the full version (under £10 for both phones). The full version has a useful track power switch as well as the facility to change points. As noted above there is an Android version called EngineDriver. No doubt about it LNWI is the cost effective and best way to go.
  11. Sorry for the delay in reply. Yes John brought along a B4 in which he had fitted a Zimo sound decoder! He said it had been quite difficult not only because of lack of space but also keeping all the bits together on reassembly. (he actually used more technical language but I think that was the message!) . So it was effectively a Blue Peter - here's one I did earlier. But he did demonstrate some very small and impressive speakers. He concluded with an easy installation in the Bulleid Diesel. Wow!
  12. If you are in East Somerset come along 8pm 21June!And yes exceptionally I did purchase the B4 with factory fitted decoder.
  13. Yes it looked good. Pleased to see Lulworth Castle at Mendip 2018. Sound is the next challenge. Youchoos are giving S&DMRS a seminar next week so maybe John will have some guidance for the B4.
  14. My Southern 88 arrived today. Well pleased. Cab detail is fine and firebox flicker (DCC fitted version) an unexpected bonus. Runs well and managed 2 car Gatestock up a 1:50 incline.
  15. One source is this site ie RMWeb under SECR Birdcage coaches. Over 35 pages though. I did start to scan but gave up on page 4!
  16. You could economise and just buy the Brake Third which is documented as running as a singleton after SR modifications. That's my excuse anyway
  17. Following advice on this thread (and from Digitrains in Lincoln) I today fitted a Digitrax DZ126IN decoder. Ran sweetly. I then tweeted the cvs to those recommended by Digitrax for a quote Road Switcher. CV02 to 048, CV06 to 048 and CV05 to 098. Running now superb. It is well documented that the Southern Railway modified some Birdcage Brake Thirds to run independently (not just as 3 car set) The P Class may not be documented as heading one of these singletons but it does on my railway!

    Track-laying progress

Looks good. Many of my point motors are original analogue Cobalts and the newer IPs with decoders built in make life much simpler. Good choice. I am also using a couple of SSs where under board fitting is difficult. Again a nice product and worth bearing in mind for those difficult spots.
  19. In the absence of any response about the full version of WiThrottle, I today took the plunge and purchased through the App Store for £9.99. Initial impressions are positive. The Power On/Off button is useful as is the dual throttle- which I have got used to as a Digitrax user. There appears to be the possibility of operating points too but that is for another day. A good tenners worth.
  20. What a beautiful model! Run in tonight and then install decoder. Must read back on this thread to find recommendations.
  21. Thank you for this helpful post. It did not deserve the subsequent snide posts which are not quite in the friendly helpful spirit that I have liked about this forum over the years. Come on guys let us play nicely
  22. Many thanks to all for their help. I was just about to order from the USA yesterday but I thought a quick call to Digitrains in Lincoln might be worthwhile. In fact they took a delivery last Friday and posted me one immediately and it arrived this morning. What an amazingly simple piece of kit! The Digitrax You Tube how to set up video is so short I thought I must be missing something. But no, it really is that simple. So to recap I am using a UK purchased LNWI (£75) with an iPhone 7 running the app WiThrottleLite. No problems with any of the half dozen DCC locos I have run so far. Still to test any sound locos. Does anyone have experience of using the purchased version of WiThrottle? Does it add much? Can you control switches/points with it? LNWI really is a must for Digitrax owners.
