  1. I am confused (not unusual). Below is a photo taken some years back of my LSWR Terrier taken on my layout in the fiddle yard. So what’s new?
  2. Agreed but the LSWR 4 & 6 wheel coaches are not in first batch from Hattons. I already have the Terrier in LSWR livery but can’t remember when I bought it!
  3. No it’s plasticard with wire. The main problem was with transfers: I could only find post grouping so had to make my own L and W to try and match the S and R.
  4. Disappointing that the colour is so wrong. I looked at one on a layout at the FROME exhibition today and it just looks wrong. Especially if it is next to a correctly coloured LSWR wagon ( of which I have several). Yes of course one can repaint and reletter but my natural meanness makes me reluctant. So I think I will hang on a while and see what Hornby do It’s not as if I don’t already have an LSWR brakevan but I was expecting Hornby would do better than my 1970s effort
  5. At Warley on Sunday I called in on the Hatton’s stand and by chance met the indomitable Dave. What a charming fellow. I thanked him for his patience and the way he was driving forward this imaginative project. He said he found most RM contributors helpful and positive. In my view Hatton’s have been creative both in the way they are securing input and in their basic idea. He asked if I had preordered any and I told him I had the Full Brake in SR Olive and was interested in 6 wheelers in similar livery or LSWR. He confirmed the SDJR versions were still several years off. All in all very positive overall.
  6. I will reserve judgement. Not easy to tell from a photo. Hopefully we will have a chance to see at Worley and make our own minds up. As I said earlier in this thread, I look forward to comparing with my scratch built decades old effort!
  7. I am a little further back than most of the posts in this stream I have magnets (powerful!) and spent the afternoon fixing staples to droppers in various directions! Is there a diagram somewhere that I have missed? sorry to come in late!

    Hornby T9

Thanks John. A fellow model railway club member has fixed our club T9 with the motor mounting casting purchased from Peters Spares and a new motor end mounting ( Hornby part) But I now find that 2 of my 4 T9s have a similar fault. Although I purchased 2 of the motor mounting castings it still appears to need the end bracket, which are sold out at Peters Spares. When I contacted Hornby they have offered to repair both locos. This is very welcome and I was proposing to share on RMWEB but was unable to find an appropriate thread to discover whether it was old news. I am about to despatch to Hornby. The LSWR T9 is shown here with broken parts in blue tray.

    Hornby T9

Is this the best place to discuss chassis rot of the T9 or is there another thread? It is now 10 years since the last post! Admin?
  10. Interestingly on the Hattons coaches the additional cost is only £6 for lighting, which of course requires a DCC decoder. I would willingly pay an additional £6 for lighting in the LSWR brakevan.
  11. Guilty as charged! Yes I use the “Midland “ clerestories on my S&D layout when running as 1923ish. I do have the odd kit built LSWR coach (PC and Roxey) to go with my LSWR locos - M7, T9, Adams Radial, Terrier etc. But may well be tempted by both blue S&D and LSWR salmon & pink or green 6 wheelers from Hattons. I am also pleased to see Dave from Hattons seems to have taken on board suggestions for a full brake. Yes please. An earlier post also mentioned the need to get the running reliable on 6 wheeled vehicles and I endorse that. I too had one of the LMS Stove 6 wheelers and returned it. Similarly my Palethorpes Van is not always great. So however good the livery and appearance is I will not be buying if the running is not reliable. And I am sure I am not alone. Barry in Somerset
  12. Unnecessarily harsh I feel. And unsupported. Feeling a little under the weather JOHN? This forum depends on folk asking questions from all sorts of basic skills and knowledge and receiving help in return. I have been helped with innumerable issues on the forum and hopefully provided some assistance too. Please let us try and keep it that way so that folk are encouraged to contribute, rather than denigrated.
  13. My double slip conundrum is a little different. Because of the physical constraints of the baseboard, my slip is driven by a Cobalt Original one end and a Cobalt SS the other. Blades change ok using Digitrax 402. But cannot sort out frog wiring. All 8 tracks insulated. Taken hours. Complicated by 2 different point motors. Frustration is driving me to consider 2 possible solutions a Replace Cobalt Original with another surface mounted Cobalt SS so wiring is easier to understand b. Purchase 2 Gaugemaster frog juicers. Any thoughts very welcome.
  14. The Southern version of the 3 car set behind the Merchant Navy look stunning. I think that has decided me to go that route with my MN Royal Mail. Then eventually buy the Bachmann 63’ BR(S) set to go behind my Bulleid diesel. Easier on the Pocket. But if Bachmann does not come up with the goods I can always buy another Bulleid shorty set in BR(S). May even be able to get 2x3 cars in due course but platforms only take 5 coaches. Perhaps a little female accounting is required by not buying the Ransoms crane set I could save over £200 to spend on Bulleid Coaches! With different road vehicles for the different periods we to try to achieve some historical continuity.
  15. As another “kettles man” I think these locos have won more converts (at least temporarily) than any other model. Well done Kernow!
  16. Great model. My one and only diesel. Can’t resist rerunning my loco shed foreman’s question ”where do I put the coal guv?”
  17. Interesting discussion. I am confused with LSWR greens. A few pictures from my collection below. I am sure most will recognise their provenance
  18. Anyone heard anything from Chris at Kernow?
  19. Now Cullumpton should not be confused with the nearby Stogumber, which as we all (?) know is the home of Wessex Wagons. Which takes us neatly back to Wrexham where the wagons are (were?) made. Almost Mornington Crescent.
  20. The emphasis is on S&D layouts but others are certainly not excluded. I have attended for about 10 years now, including as an exhibitor, so am a comparative newcomer and have seen a wide variety of layouts ( even including GWR!). It is a small friendly exhibition which I would recommend. Photos below of SDMRS Edington layout at the exhibition in 2016.
  21. Fascinating thread. And well beyond my modelling skills. But if you do get a saleable kit together I could be interested. My PC model of LSWR 57 ft brake from the 1980s was a challenge at the time and is looking past its best!
  22. Nice job. Well done. I must now see if I can find my equivalent bus! I am impressed with the subtle weathering of the T9. i remember the critiques of the T9 when it came out (although most of us were just thrilled that it had finally arrived) and I was glad mine (all 4!) have the 8 wheeled water cart tenders. I splashed out on one and had Youchoos add a Zimo sound chip - sublime! My model railway club’s one T9 - BR - has succumbed to metal fatigue (?) in the chassis and a Member is currently tackling. I understand that is not uncommon. Thanks for sharing- good stuff.
