  1. Rob As one of the punters at Nailsea it was good to put a face to the mutterings! You may recall (but probably not in view of all your many visitors) that I have a couple of Oxford Radials, one LSWR, the other SR and with sound. Very satisfying. Couple of shots of former below.
  2. I tend to agree. I would not buy a TTS sound chipped loco however many beats it has simply because it is not synchronised. But I, like many here, am willing to save up and get a “proper job” from Youchoos- or go without sound. Unfortunately the majority of my locos are still not sound chipped but I will fit as funds allow. But only Locsound or Zimo.
  3. I appreciate Stroudley was not LSWR but his Terrier was available in LSWR livery.
  4. The programme may have been SK’s idea but I didn’t think he came out of it too well. The arguments he put forward about the Terrier just was not convincing. In fact, as has been pointed out above, is inaccurate. Hornby under various managements has had a habit of being on the verge of producing a model which did not appear until a rival announced one eg Adams Radial. I found the Rails and Hatton’s argument compelling that they were forced into manufacturing because of Hornby's lack of new models. And yes SK did come across as sly. He no doubt would have used the word wily. Hornby has definitely been slow to innovate. Coach lighting, easy fit DCC, smokebox flicker, realistic tender coal, synchronised sound etc etc should all have been pursued instead of non NMRA chips and second rate DCC control systems in competition with electronic specialists. That said I have been happy to purchase a whole range of Hornby LSWR/SR locos and coaches; T9s, Bulleid Pacifics, King Arhur’s, S15s, Black Motors and M7s plus of course Maunsell coaches. But even here the quality has not always been quite right with failing T9 chassis with metal rot, M7s where installing a DCc chip required removing weights and Maunsell non corridor coaches which are not free running because of a design fault. Yes I wish Hornby good luck but I do not feel any particular warmth or loyalty towards them.
  5. Some good innovative thinking here! I don’t know how realistic it is given the small space in the wagon but it certainly sounds appealing. Perhaps something similar with a micro camera wagon - the one I have is not Hornby and does not have Bluetooth. Certainly this is the right direction. We already operate our layouts from smartphones (well some of us do) but there is much more mileage in such linkages.
  6. Simon The Digitrax LNWI can be purchased in the UK. I have bought 2 at different times from Digitrains in Lincoln. You will see this kit in use often at UK exhibitions.
  7. Perhaps they should try to learn something from Peco, whose Devon site is attractive and provides an enjoyable day (ok half day if you are not a model railway fan) for many visitors.
  8. My personal reality is a little less complicated. The S&D terminates at its southern end at a point where it reaches the LSWR Main line to the West. The station, known as Broadtemple, has 3 S&D terminal platforms (or more precisely platform edges) and 2 through LSWR/SR through platforms. It is still very much a work in progress. The single line S&D track is largely an incline of 1:50, much of it hidden so the tight curves are not visible, which runs to an elevated cassette fiddle yard.
  9. Interesting. I have always feared downsizing and my cunning plan would be to spend more time and effort on my model railway club efforts. Look forward to seeing your photos.
  10. Agree. The Bullhead track looks very good. So do the fishplates but sliding them onto the rails takes some patience. After a while there is a bit of a knack to it. All in all I would recommend this track.
  11. Am I the only one still having trouble with my Gallery? constantly get error message
  12. Shepton and District Model Railway Society (S&DMRS) has Club evenings for all members but individual layout teams often arrange daytime meetings. The 5 members of one team starting a new layout have met every Monday morning for the last 15 months for example. Another team worked 2 or 3 days each week for a couple of months to prepare a layout for a major exhibition. Hope that helps
  13. I think The LSWR version will tempt me. But I have to join the Dapol Club to purchase.
  14. Sorry if this has already been answered but I cannot find it. Is Gallery returning and if so how will I know it is back? Or is it already back in a different guise?
  15. Thanks for enlightening me Nigel. I know of EngineDriver and a buddy with an Android phone had it up and running within minutes on LNWI.
  16. Not sure what you mean by Digitrains app If you mean WiThrottle yes LNWI controls Digitrax systems very well. I use an iPhone 6 but others in my Club use other devices. WiThrottle Lite is great but I believe the £9.99 for the full version is worthwhile, especially if you want to control points.
  17. Ok now checked out Cobalt on bench and it works. Must be my wiring! Back to the DCC Concepts website to try and sort out connections. Boy is it confusing the changes in the positions of the contacts over the various generations of Cobalts. My Mark 1 does not have labels on contacts.
  18. Looks a good place to start. Personally I would add a turntable, which for me adds operational fun. So will you have a cassette fiddle yard?
  19. Time to try to cure the dead frogs in the Broadtemple goods yard. Just treating the three way point as two separate points has its problems. The DCC Concepts website pointed me in the right direction for wiring 3 way Peco points with 2 Cobalts All wiring duly corrected But one of the Cobalts is not moving It is a Mark 1 and therefore about 8 years old suspect it needs replacing
  20. Yes I am still finding my way around update too
  21. Most impressive. And love the photos showing construction.
