  1. The same technique was employed on my refinished. Hornby Dublo WC loco. Ray.
  2. The trick with Fox lining, especially tender lining is to cut it into quarters or more and apply one piece at at a time teasing it into position with a small brush and water. This is an 0 gauge DJH Fairburn tank loco that i lined using Fox lining transfers. Ray.
  3. I did manage to modify an AL1 pantograph to collect from the Trix catenary but i never progressed to seeing how it coped with diverging wiring at points and junctions. Ray.
  4. This was my set up for reducing the flange and serrations on the triang wheels,i used a tool with a replaceable tip. Ray.
  5. The Triang model is an awful model,a terrible motor bogie coupled with knurled wheels. It unfortunately shares the overscale body of the HD model. It also has an awful change over switch in the roof. The only way I got mine to operate properly was to machine the knurling from the wheels and turn a set of steel wheels for the trailing bogie coupled with wiper pickups for running on my Dublo 3 rail layout picking up from the catenary. This is mine after above modifications, Ray.
  6. Well, hopefully not too bad at it.My first 0 gauge kit was this DJH Fairburn tank and I'm now building a Roxey models WD 2-8-0, the nearly finished tender is pictured here.I find that with advancing years,00 is a bit small and 5 inch gauge is getting a bit heavy 😃.
  7. Having moved into the realms of 0 gauge kit building,i chanced upon ACEproducts website who were offering a brass kit for the original Channel Packet in as built in 1941.Obviously,you had to buy the wheels and motor. The body kit was £315.I emailed ACE for details but never got an answer so plumped for an AC electric Cl.81kit for my next loco build. My interests are quite broad these days. Ray.
  8. Here i go again.i must stop the small wee hours surfing.Another from Hattons pre owned list.It has some small bubbles on the driving end but i really bought it for the chassis. My intention is to build a BR Cl.308 AC EMU as the attached article.I do have some where,a spare damaged body shell.I`m trying to source a pair of 308 cab fronts,3d printed or otherwise.Another on the to do list. Ray.
  9. Freestone models used to advertise these sheets along with Bilteezi sheets but their website seems to have been down for some time now. Ray
  10. Shunters lamp, used by the shunter for calling on or backing up.I can still hear the crash of buffers as the wagons were flyshunted into the sidings propelled by a 0-6-0 diesel shunter 12123.Those sounds have stayed with me for 70 years in my minds eye as i grew up in Harringay in those days!. Ray.
  11. Out of interest, this is a Dapol kit fitted on a modified Hornby Dublo chassis. Ray.
  12. Most 0 gauge models benefit from springing, they have the weight advantage. This is a pic of my WD tender, all axles sprung in fold up horns. Ray.
  13. Warning,0 gauge can be deeply damaging to the pocket, after years of 00 however, there`s somthing about the size and heft of these models and the satisfaction of i built it myself. This is my first loco build from a DJH Fairburn tank kit, having built that,i`m now working on a Roxey mouldings WD Austerity 2-8-0,still constructing the tender and after that,i have a DJH 9f kit waiting in the wings. Ray
  14. Anyone remember Meks models in Mackenzie road,Holloway,N.London?. Ray.
  15. A roundup of work so far on the tender. Why is it that no matter how I hold parts in alignment, they are always out of alignment after soldering, ie,the tender side sheet. As you can see, I can fill the gap with solder.Ah,the trials of kit builders. Ray.
  16. Lots of little jobs on this build.Handrails made and fitted and the tender ladder made but still on the jig.I prefer nickel silver wire for these jobs,it's stiffer and takes solder better. .More soon. Ray.
  17. I dunno,my Trix Peppercorn makes a pretty good fist of running on Dublo Track!. Ray.
  18. Sometimes,Hattons do have some bargains.Early morning surfing bought this up on their second hand/sold as seen pages. This is a Hornby Dublo EMU motor coach which was described as good but a wobbly runner. This was half the price that you would expect to pay for one of these but at £145,it was a good price,a good one of these would sell for £200 +.Two traction tyres later and lubrication,it was a perfect runner. In fact,i added the trailer at the same time. Ray.
  19. As a variation on the scheme, one of my Triang EM2s operating on the layout. Ray.
  20. Here is my Heljan EM1 fitted with again,Trix EM1 pantographs which were supplied by the spares from the TTRCA.It`s actually fitted with a miniature switch inside the body which means that it can pick up from the wire or the centre rail through a Marklin skate attached under one of the bogies. It has always mystified me how such an expensive model had such a crap pantograph. You can see the slide switch just to the right of the green pcb. Ray
  21. As well as my Trix EM1s,i modified a Heljan EM2 to collect from the wire using new Trix pantographs from the TTRCA.Works really well. Ray.
  22. The only way you may be able to get them is from the TTRCA spares but you have to be member to buy. Ray.
  23. I don't think these models were ever supplied with wiper pickups, they were intended for three trains on one track, the third pickup being the catenary. The AL1s never had wiper pickups either, being 2 rail, the Current was collected through opposite bogies. Ray.
  24. Here you are,one of my repaints of a tatty original. Ray.
  25. They are a very powerful loco, ihave a few of them, they all run off the Trix catenary at the moment. Ray.
