  1. I suspect that might have been the guard actually, tail lamps being his responsibility - but it's a good story!
  2. I think you may have rather more hair left.....
  3. He works for KMRC, but I believe he also consults for multiple other organisations when required, as he has done for many years. His discretion about who is doing what means people trust him, as do I.
  4. But POM has so many advantages where CVs with a wide range of values are concerned. You can check the setting instantly, adding or subtracting as you then find best. And for sound decoders the instant change in e.g. volume etc is such a time-saver - too much or too little shows up at once.
  5. I do hope the venue is actually open by then. Lots of disgruntled punters and acts right now.
  6. I suppose in Mah-jongg one starts by building the Great Wall of China - from tiles.
  7. I think their daily rates might be a bit high for me.....
  8. The same entreaty - verbatim - has been posted on at least two other manufacturers' RMweb pages.
  9. Drat. I had thought What Tiler? was a monthly mag for decorators.
  10. I think there is a minority of models for which a pre-order is a necessary precaution. I was glad I signed up early for the Kernow railmotor, for example, because they flew out of the door on release. But bread-and-butter models, made in larger batches, do not need that - and you may even get a better price elsewhere on release.
  11. It is puzzling that these incidents clearly 'happen' to people who, far from being uncaring employees scraping the company van, are proudly following a favourite hobby. I feel genuinely sorry for them and can imagine the anguish.
  12. Our Day Will Come - Ruby & Romantics
  13. Graham Muz, who has no doubt had connections with its development, said this yesterday in this thread: "Not so, the EFE Rail YOB is a new project from the ground up and nothing to do with the Hattons abandoned project." Is he a liar?
  14. Actually Ferrari's chequebook.
  15. Late first-wife Deb's father Elliott Miller was Convenor for the Central London Branch. Following her accident in September 2008, Deb got a card from Dianne Hayter, sometime chair of that branch, who was about to open the Labour Party Conference, in a difficult period. For a couple of Christmases we had cards from the House of Lords, as Dianne was in 2010 made Baroness Hayter of Kentish Town. Beatrice Webb house is in the Abinger- Holmbury St Mary area in leafy Surrey. In the early '60s it was served by bus 412, from Dorking North Station. In 1961 I travelled from Wadebridge to Bodmin North. After the pannier had run round, I talked to the driver, and on telling him I was from Surrey, he asked whether I knew anything about getting to Beatrice Webb House, where he was booked on a course. I was delighted to tell what I knew. Not every 12-y-o gets a chance to be that helpful!
  16. Try buying comparable kit-built coaches decently painted. I saw a SR Dia 2406 the other day offered, new, for £425. Secondhand ones on ebay are typically at least half that, despite being decades old. And latest manufacturing techniques almost certainly mean the products announced today are superior in detail and running qualities. Bachmann is ripping nobody off at these prices.
  17. Today I get my annual zoledronic acid infusion. Nerdy nurse Corinne will be here before midday. It takes about 20 minutes. I am convinced that it works because my back has been increasingly uncomfortable over recent months, as the anniversary approaches. So every morning since Saturday I have drunk 5 glasses of water over and above my usual tea/coffee/orange juice. And I am required to take paracetamol 4 times a day for the next three days, irrespective of pain or not. I feel the instructions become more strict every year, and have yet to feel ill afterwards to any extent worth mentioning. I hope I don't regret saying that! Yesterday I consulted my GP about the results of the recent chest scan - and of course she now wants me to see a pneumologist. With our cruise coming up next week I won't hurry. GP herself was in poor form, sadly, looking old and weary, and drinking lots of water. I hope she can diagnose a remedy. I asked if she takes HRT - she's mid-50s - and yes, she does. The fact that my consultation took 25 minutes tells you everything about her diligence. And, like me, being a foreigner - she's Spanish - doesn't help when you feel down, perhaps.
