  1. Precursor to The Overground - a Silverlink Class 313 unit at Kensington Olympia on what I seem to remember was a Willesden Jct to Clapham Jct service - 20 January 2006 (click to view full screen)
  2. First I have to locate the slidebox then scan the slide, then send it all the way from Australia Taken in March 1989 at Tynemouth station (I think - feel free to correct me if wrong). Best viewed full screen. EDIT: The station is Whitley Bay - see below. Next: Steam and diesel in the same image - but not doubleheading
  3. These were taken in 1983 - I'm not sure what their buses look like these days?
  4. A slight change of pace.......a couple taken in Calcutta in January 1983
  5. If you look at the in stock that's on offer at heavy discounts at the moment it is the same models (more or less) at each of the individual retailers - too much of a coincidence?
  6. Polish Railways Pm2 34 was built by Berliner Maschinenbau AG (BMAG) in 1936 (Works no. 10629) one of 298 Class 03 light Pacifics built for the German Railways between 1930 and 1937, 36 of which passed to Poland after WWII. On 29 July 1977 it was coming off Bydgoszcz shed to work the 1219hrs Bydgoszcz to Piła passenger service. It was painted a sort of drab olive/green/brown which hasn't gone down to well with 34-year old Agfachrome.
  7. Not a particularly great shot, but included for posterity's sake. One of the former Tyneside two car units that became 2-EPBs on the Southern, and which (in this case 5791) were often regulars on the West Croydon to Wimbledon 'cross-country' service - now of course part of the Croydon Tramlink. Taken at West Croydon circa 1972 from a moving train heading home to Sutton.
  8. No - it was a very rushed visit. I came down from Belfast on a RPSI steam tour, but it was running rather late so time was tight.
  9. D-stock and others Wimbledon - 6 March 2013 Richmond - 14 March 2013 Richmond - 14 March 2013
  10. In July 1981, classic former Pennsylvania Railroad GG1 electric no.4884 in service with the New Jersey Transit authority is seen at Newark, NJ with a westbound Amtrak service bound, if memory serves correctly, for Washington. The GG1 was covering for a failed Amtrak locomotive. I was staying with friends in New York for a few days and made a brief afternoon excursion to Newark in the hope of seeing one of these, what were then, rare beasts and ended up with two, the headlight of the second can be seen illuminating the carriage sides. A non standard gauge railway in Switzerland
  11. The crowds have just about all gone as three of Eastbourne Corporation's finest line up at Eastbourne railway station a the end of the local annual running day - 5 July 2015 KHC369 a 1963 Regent V with East Lancs bodywork; AHC442 a 1951 classic AEC Regent III with bodywork by Bruce; and BJK673D a 1966 built Leyland Titan PD2 with East Lancs bodywork. Former CIE Leyland PD3/2s, with bodywork from the CIE's own workshops, at Dublin Transport Rally - Sunday 27 September 2015. Left to right: RA106 new 9/60 withdrawn 2/82; RA73 new 12/59 withdrawn 1/82; RA37 new 5/59 withdrawn 2/82
  12. Pacific National EMD-powered unit 8182 waits for a short rake of hoppers to be loaded with grain at Cootamundra, New South Wales, on Tuesday 4 April 2017. Next - A narrow gauge train (gauge less than 1 metre) in regular service (not preservation)
  13. Great find thanks - I'll have to see if I can dig my shot out now.
  14. A couple more Routemasters from the July 1972 visit to Aldenham
  15. Yep - it was in fact the day of the very last working - the Western Tribute railtour.
  16. Yep, I have a very poor B & W photo (Brownie 127) of it taken at the carriage sidings at Paignton in August 1969 while on holiday down there.
  17. 4-VEP at London Bridge - probably in 1971 NSE liveried 4-VEP no.3138 heads south through Gatwick Airport on a Brighton Line service during February 1989.
  18. Thanks - I was fortunate that my sister lived in Macclesfield at the time so it was a short early morning drive up into the Pennines.
  19. It's a fine line between what constitutes a holiday and an all out train chasing trip, but a fairly relaxed winter trip to Switzerland late in 1988 probably was closer to a holiday than most. Lucky enough to catch one of the Rhätische Bahn 'krokodils' after going down for an evening walk to the station at Davos. Locomotive in a workshop (not on shed or a maintenance depot)
  20. A relatively early morning start to the day reveals a light overnight snowfall at Peak Forest sometime in early February 1989. 37684 on the right and 37687 on the left and probably 'Scottie' 37411 with its headlight on in the distance.
  21. Now there's a funny coincidence......... First up we have RM 706 doing the tilt test at Aldenham Works in July 1972 (not the greatest quality, taken on dodgy film stock on a Canon Dial half frame camera). 17 years later in March 1989, RM 706 again seen when in service with Carlislebus (although it was over two decades later before someone pointed it out the connection to me).
  22. A pretty drab and deserted looking Manchester Victoria in November 1983 with a two-car Manchester-Bury unit awaiting departure. (Need to click on this one to get the whole effect.)
  23. At least the Indians (and the New Zealanders) still carry milk on rail. They probably think it hilarious that we're not smart enough to do likewise
  24. One of the owners did explain it to me at the time although I cant remember the exact details. It wasn't cheap, but they were able to keep things affordable by buying in 'bulk' and sharing the order with a couple of other heritage owners.
