  2. The first revenue through freight train from Adelaide to Darwin commenced its two day journey north on 15 January 2004. Photographed crossing 'Lake Knockout' on the approach to Port Augusta and paralleled by as special train hauled by Pichi Richi Railway’s narrow gauge (3’6”) former Commonwealth Railways 4-8-0 NM25 as part of the celebrations. 4. .......and apparently if you travel at over 30mph in one Mr Stephenson's new fangled Rocket trains the forces on the body will kill you
  5. From the opening post in the thread..... Hello All, Thought I'd start a new topic - "Lines in the Landscape". As the title suggests, this is the place to put your photos where the train/railway is just a part of the overall landscape. Could be town or country - the railway might dominate the landscape or may just be a tiny part of it. .....or is this destined to become another "what I saw on Facebook today" thread?
  6. During what would now be considered the early days of privatisation, NSE and Stagecoach colours mingle on a rather damp May day in 1998 at Waterloo (click on the pic to see more detail).
  7. On 13 March 1989 a westbound empty stone train passes West Ealing behind 56056 Tooo late
  8. The low cloud betrays what was a warm and stuffy July day in 1983 as 56066 heads a loaded southbound MGR working past Derby station and 253 027 on an unidentified Midland Line express. Next an intermodal container service in the UK
  9. .....and LNCs. EDIT - a bit from Ian's Bus Stop about their short lived life on these routes http://www.countrybus.org/National/LN.htm LNC 42 on Route 721 at Aldgate on 16 July 1973. Only 4 months old at the time, it would only spend another 2 months in Green Line service before being reclassified for bus duties.
  10. A Broken Hill to Port Pirie loaded ore train near Thackaringa (new South Wales) in August 1991
  11. Whether the signal actually worked is open to conjecture, but within a couple of minutes of waiting this delightful narrow gauge logging train hauled by 763.217 rolled into view. Voislova system, Romania, September 1974. Next - narrow gauge diesel (less than metre gauge)
  12. Transition days on Merseyrail - a Class 508 arrives at Birkenhead North sometime in September 1984 (better viewed full screen)
  13. Thanks. No idea where I got the incorrect information from?
  14. A 4-CIG (still carrying it's real number) and a 4-VEP race southward through Norbury in March 1984 (click on the pic for better view)
  15. Less than ideal conditions - total gloom, temperature hovering around 0C, intermittent light snow falling and the road to Garsdale closed beyond Dent station due to adverse weather conditions. However despite all this, 48151 appeared to make fairly light work of hauling 'The White Rose Moorlander' upgrade through Dent station on the Settle and Carlisle line - 20 March 2013. Unfortunately the Stanier 8F failed at Carlisle prior to working the train back south. Next - a diesel hauled freight in the UK with semaphores
  16. Time for a wildcard......Manchester Victoria in September 1984 (as always better viewed full screen) Next - an image of another major city station before it underwent major rebuilding.
  17. Loving this thread. My N Gauge Society Collett full brake in blue just arrived in the post so looking for some possible parcels combos to put together.
  18. Rhodesian Railways 15th class Garratt no.391 catches the late evening sun while 'on shed' at Gwelo in August 1976. Built by Beyer Peacock in 1950, 391 was one of 74 delivered to the RR between 1939 and 1952. Next - a privately owned/controlled industrial railway system
  19. 34007 in a lay by on the A31 between Alresford and the M3 on 3 September 2015. It was on its way to the North Norfolk Railway gala, but held up because of an accident on the M3. In the end I think it had to go turn back and go home to the MHR. Next - a wildcard
  20. Cross over marketing gone absolutely crazy - what an absolute load of cobblers. And children it's only make believe - in real life Shane never made it to Melbourne.
