Took surprisingly few photos of the Deltics over the years. This is probably my favourite, taken in September 1972 on a Canon Dial half frame camera on Agfa CT18 stock. 9008 The Green Howards at Newcastle.

EMD-powered C class loco (owned by leasing company CFCL Australia) on grain train duties at Bribbaree, New South Wales - 5 April 2017.

It was a toss up between 'Lines in the landscape' or 'Creative Photography' with this one......but given all the train except the front of the lead loco is in shadow, I felt it just about qualified for the latter. Train 1311 climbs the grade to Demondrille, near Harden, New South Wales on 3 April 2017

Three vintage ALCo models still at work in Australia, taken in Junee, New South Wales, last Wednesday afternoon. All three are owned by transport and logistics company QUBE and are used on container shuttles in the area. DL531 model 864 was built for the South Australian Railways in 1963 and has seen a number of owners over the years. CE615 8044 is 20 years younger having been built by Comeng in 1982 for the NSW State Rail Authority. ALCo 'World' DL500B 4458 was built for the New South Wales Government Railways in 1961.

A trio of QBX class locomotives QBX006/004/005 operated by transport and logistics company QUBE thread the Cullerin Range in New South Wales with train #1311 for Junee. The train is carrying largely empty containers destined for the Vizy paper packaging products plant at Tumut which will be transhipped from rail to road at Harefield. The QBX class are a 4000hp locomotive built by CSR Ziyang (China) with a MTU power unit. (Best to click on image to get full effect)

Sadly I don't think the QJs have run for a couple of years now. Iowa Interstate donated them to a preservation group, but not a lot seems to be happening.

Llanuza gets plenty of friendly abuse in the comments section for many of his photos - not always the best images technically they still ooze late 70s/early 80s fallen flag diesel nostalgia. Some great stuff chasing the last Milwaukee F units across the countryside. A big favourite of mine is Bill Gordon's (lowmoor) page on Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/130647200@N05/ some very classy transition era stuff from the late 50s/ early 60s from B & O, C & O and N & W country, but also lots of logging and industrial steam in its dying days. From dinky little Shays on Logging lines to massive Y6 Mallets on the Norfolk & Western - a fantastic archive.

A total of 755 of these stylish WP class broad gauge Pacifics were built for the Indian Railways between 1947 and 1967. Unfortunately they never reached the heady speeds suggested by their streamlining. WP 7209 was one of the initial prototype batch of 15 locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1947 and was still going strong when photographed on the Northern Railway at Lucknow - 10 November 1978.

Wow so much to take in...... Some of these weren't that rare at the time (late 60s to early 70s), but were certainly something different. As well as the 25s at Clapham Jct, they were regular visitors on cross London freights to Hither Green in the late 1960s as were the occasional Class 27 when still allocated to Cricklewood. My most unusual 25 sighting was D7660 in blue southbound through Forest Hill light engine on 31 August 1967. I can only assume it had been to Bricklayers Arms or possibly dropped some wagons off at New Cross Gate. 31s also visited Hither Green on cross London freights, but there was also a daily (?) Temple Mills to Hoo Jct (Via the Dartford Loop) freight with a 31 as regular power which occasionally produced a 37 and on the very odd occasion a Class 15!! Double 47 or 47/45 combos were daily regulars on the MGR coal trains to Northfleet and Eastern and Scottish Region 47s on cement trains Oxwellmains. D383 made it to Hither Green in October 1967 - I had seen it at Willesden while at an Open Day there and then found out at School on Monday it also made it to HG that day. Of course the most unusual diesel was the visit of D6122 to Hither Green for several months - though this could hardly be viewed as a 'working'

On 4 February 2015, a loaded Wirrida to Whyalla iron ore train operated by Genesee & Wyoming Australia skirts Lake Hart in outback South Australia about 500km north of Adelaide. Unfortunately with the collapse in world commodity prices this traffic flow lasted less than two years and ended just a few weeks after this shot was taken.

Lines of all sorts with this one.........A pair Pacific National's EMD-powered 82 class wind a rake of empty coal hoppers off the Kooragang Island branch at Sandgate, New South Wales on 10 May 2005. The junction conflict was completely removed not long after this was taken with the construction of a flyover behind where I'm standing. Click on the pic to get the full effect.
