    Good idea.

Can I suggest that the contents be selected on an era basis, so that one could ask for era 3-6 contents, or era 7-present?  I realise that this would be extra work for whoever is making up the boxes, and might well be impractical, but I think the response from us would be worth it for you (says the man whose knowledge of RTR marketing and economics is spectacularly non-existant).  £150 beer-voucher's worth of era 3-6 stuff for £100 bvs, all of which will be of definite use on my layout even if one or two items need to be repainted, is a very attractive prospect, but an unknown quantity of stuff too modern for me is less so.

To be honest the majority of mystery boxes that I know of from other providers are actually made up of the same things for each customer and is frequently down to free up warehouse space for new items. If (and I emphasise if because I don’t actually know) this is a similar exercise on the part of Rapido then it probably wouldn’t be possible to separate them out like this.

  2. I’ve gone for the £250 one myself - I’ve always liked those Rapido mink vans, and if this is the only way to get one then so be it!

Seriously, I’ve always been a big fan of mystery boxes and I’m looking forward to seeing what is inside of this one.

  3. Personal hopes - new run of Quarry hunslets - the second hand prices are now getting silly

    - updated 4MT tank loco

    - corris locomotives. One of the few items when you can have the same narrow gauge locos representing two different railways.

    -corris coaches and wagons

If you don't mind me asking, have you checked when running in the dark to check the interior lights are on, as they should be always on when on DC, as we have set the interior light level to a level that they are not too unrealistically bight (as many model lighting is far to bright).

I have contacted kernow directly about this and it’s been solved. I only have an extremely small loop of track and have to run the locos very slowly to avoid them flying off :) it appears that the juice I was giving the models wasn’t enough to illuminate the interior lights. I have briefly tested at higher speeds and voltages and all works.

as for the bluetooth sound decoder installation, all went very well and the on board speaker works a treat. I can turn the directional lamps on and off, but the interior lights being controlled by function 6 won’t work with the Hornby decoder. Not a fault, but a limitation of using an nxt18 decoder, plux 12 adapter in a plux 22 socket and controlling with a Bluetooth interface not designed for anything except the decoder :)

  5. Happy to report that all three of my railmotors run very well - one has been Hornby bluetoothed and is running in properly now. Can’t say that it was the easiest model to get in to, but all sorted now.

However, I do have a question for you all on here - the instructions say that the interior and trailing cab lights will light up on analogue and are controlled by function 6 on DCC. None of mine do this on analogue.

Now, I’m willing to believe that the Hornby decoder needs a bit of messing about with to make the lights work, but the other two (which are remaining analogue) worry me a bit. Can anyone illuminate me on this? It just seems odd that it is all three of them

There's an awful lot to like and love about this model.

    Kernow GW Railmotor 6.jpg

Hidden in there is something you may not have seen before; the motor is cunningly encased in a representation of the vertical boiler.

    Kernow GW Railmotor 10.jpg

The running characteristics are superb; as stable on my hyper-sensitive rolling road as anything that's been on there and strong enough to have a tail load of 10 Mk1s. 😐

Muz knows the one bit I'd change.

Good to see that there is plenty of space inside - I’m being heretics with my own sound installation and going Hornby hm7000, so it is good to see that there are possibilities for concealing such a space hungry approach

I think think problem has been mentioned before but I'm blowed if I can find it so if anyone has any thoughts it would be appreciated.

Hornby 08, been running fine with an old Lenz 1025 chip.

Installed an 8 pin bluetooth sound and the install went absolutely fine even on our slow 2 wire broadband.

Running though was dire, using the slider it would move a few cm, stop then move off further, apparently running ok then stop with the chip number in blue going to red. It would reconnect, move off then do the same. Was the same with sound on.

Tried on DCC with the same result. Replaced the Lenz and checked all wheels picking up, clean track, etc. Ran fine, replaced HM chip and as before.

Rather exasperated put the chip in a ViTrains 37. Runs fine on both bluetooth and DCC.

Well aware sound chips are far more sensitive to loss of power however brief but this was plain track.

    Cheers

    Stu

I had something similar to this when I chipped my Flying Scotsman (modern tooling A3 - the NE Black version) - in my case I cured it by attaching the Hornby stay alive.

  8. Yes, regrettably Formula e live is now behind a paywall as the live races are only on TNT Sports in the UK.

Ive swapped over to EE as my mobile phone provider, which has come with a membership to TNT sports included, so it’s functionally free for me. Just in case anyone else might make use of that info

  9. Already pre-ordered  few things from Kernow - Mayflower, L1, W1 and an LMR mail coach. But i do think that the video itself was just awful - mispronounced names, jump cuts halfway through words, a nice long interview with lots of inaudible muttering breaking everything up and the host saying that he'd buy one of the engines becuase he would titter at the word 'Dick' being in the name.

A big step down on the quality of their previous presentations in my opinion

  10. A sad day when such a name goes from the sector.

on a self serving note, I hope that they decide that they can proceed with the P class - I have a ‘bluebell’ on order and if prefer to give the money directly to Hattons rather than three or four times as much to someone from eBay

Maybe it helped to ensure the pile of coal was within gauge?   I wonder if it always ran with the coal space sheeted (which would seem logical)?

From what I can see from contemporary photos, there was little restraint for loose coal falling off the top of the engine, so maybe it was an attempt to simply retain the coal in the chute whilst on the road?

Or alternatively, a problem that wouldn’t exist on most locos would be rainwater pouring down the coal chute to the inside of the loco without a tender gap to drain it, so maybe the tarp was to shed the water over the side.

just a thought. Got no evidence from anything approaching a primary source that either of those things was true :)

  12. Hi all,

I find myself in need of some of the mid-Sodor railway transfers previously available from the railway mania store. Unfortunately that appears to be on a hiatus at the moment (and judging by the ‘back in the autumn’ statement still being there on December 12th it doesn’t look good for its return), so I was wondering if anyone knew where else I could source these? I believe they were designed by someone named Luke Ryan, but I have exactly no idea of who that is or how I might go about asking if there are any available.

Its a big shame about the continued closure, as I wanted to peruse the sustain decal range a bit more to maybe use some of the standard gauge stuff as well.

Anyway i basically need the lot from the Mid-Sodor collection - Wagons, carriages and crests. I’m very short of them all at the moment and I’d like to use the right things for the job.

    Thanks in advance,

    Edge

So that confirms what I saw on a Youtube video, still has the wrong pattern wheels unfortunately.

This looks like the same model that Jenny a Kirk had on her YouTube channel. If so, it’s an EP that has been about for a few months and has been revised.
