  1. Video? That's a bit hi-tech for a layout set in the 1920's isn't it? Maybe we could film something in 16mm B&W - would that do? Seriously, that's a good idea, I'll put it forward to the group ......
  2. Ok...... Our Open day on July 25th will be our first full day's operating session and so we will be running a schedule of appropriate trains. Depending on how that goes the group may develop that into running a proper timetable for use at future exhibitions .... Why not come down and see how we get on?
  3. Wow! This is what it's all about! Thanks for letting us see these. Paul
  4. Here's the café ...with the locals ... and the tourists!
  5. Fair point .... but not a lot I can do about it now! However, this thread is not supposed to all be about ME ... is no-one else doing interiors ? Let's see other people's work please .....
  6. Two weeks to go to our 'launch' at the club Open Day and details keep being added to the layout ... A trial fitting of the footbridge .... it has to be removable as it spans a baseboard join.... The foot bridge helps to hide the fact that the tracks converge onto the fiddle yard at the Willesden end of the layout .. On another front the final chimneys have now been added............ made by our member John who lives in Boston, USA ....
  7. Returning to topic ............. The Addison Road group are looking to expand as the layout is currently being built by just five members .... plus one who lives in the USA! The team will need to expand once the layout goes on the exhibition circuit as five is just not enough to operate the layout at a weekend show. So .......... if you would like to be involved with this project ..... and be part of an active club (N, OO and G) which has a large library and a growing social aspect ... then please come along to our Open Day on July 25th ..... and bring some stock along to run!! See our website www.tdmrc.org.uk
  8. Well, here's the updated version ... more boxes, more people ... more stuff on shelves ... still one more figure to add plus more stuff on shelves but am waiting for stuff from Preiser so will now move on and complete when Gaugemaster can deliver....
  9. Here is my small supermarket interior (circa 2005) .... still a few more bits to add, some bottles on the shelves and one more figure. But am waiting for parts from Preiser, so on to the next one and will come back to this later.
  10. This is not a topic for the pros and cons of whether or not to put interiors into your buildings ... this is just to showcase peoples work and swap tips on how to source/modify parts for interiors. I model in HO ... here is an interior I've just completed .... a young woman (circa 2005) is putting her suitcase back on top of the wardrobe after returning from a holiday.
  11. Joking apart, I have always thought that it's good to 'semi hide' some detail ............. by that I mean encourage viewers to get sucked in by looking for detail .... by not putting it all 'out there'. So some of the detail will be difficult to see ... all the more satisfying when you do get to see it! Well that's the theory!! I may list '10 things to look for' as a fun 'game' for children at exhibitions........ Got to get the layout built first!
  12. Well ............ Yes, you're right of course I'm spending far too much time on interiors, but I enjoy doing these interiors ... maybe I should give up model railways and take up 'dolls houses' instead. Funnily enough I am thinking of building some flats as 'under construction' to avoid doing so many interiors! But I would need to do it 'properly'.
  13. Six hours today produced this .......... Another one of the 1960s women hanging washing has become a 2005 student putting her suitcase on top of the wardrobe ...
  14. I decided that the 'must have' figure for the shop was a women with a supermarket basket ... so I made one .... she started as the women on the left, I shortened her and changed her to having jeans and she has had a new arm grafted on from another figure .... Time taken inc making the basket ... two hours
  15. You'll notice that I've cleared a shelf and there are boxes underneath to replenish it !
  16. One reason that things take me so long is that I am an obsessive ... So the standard Faller box of fruit is too coarse for me ..... so here are two ... one as it should look as far as Faller are concerned and one I'm happy with ... time taken to 'improve' this detail which will hardly be seen inside a building over 4ft away ... 30 mins!
  17. I agree ... up to a point. This is not one of those family concerns with dingy lighting ... this is a proper business .... and there are some cardboard boxes already (behind the counter) but they are grey ... that's because I have a can of spray light grey paint !! Seriously I am experimenting to get the correct shade of washed out brown ... it's very pale and insipid and difficult to get right ... I've got some Africa Korps desert khaki somewhere that might do the trick! Am taking this all on board ... keep watching!
  18. Point taken ..... but it's still a work in progress! I'll se what I can do !!
  19. Here is the latest interior ............. a local supermarket .......
  20. Some of you may have noticed the 4 rail electrified track on our 7mm layout - Addison Road - as seen in the photo above..... So it has been pointed out that in a sense we already have a D&E layout .... albeit set in the 1920s!! Our 7mm layout is based on Addison Road (now known as Kensington Olympia) on the West London line. As there were no kits available for the LNWR Oerlikon stock we designed and made our own kits. Here is a built up one in LNWR livery..... And one in LMSlivery...
  21. Thanks Kev .... a few years down the line I think!! Meanwhile ....the next interior is virtually finished ...the laundrette
  22. Hello Mike, Thanks for your input. Let's face it we are probably thinking initially at 4mm. Traditionally our club, like most I suspect, had a generic OO/HO layout where anything could run. Back in the day it would not be unusual on a club night to see a Tri-ang Stephenson's Rocket running on one track and a HST running on the other ..... in other words the Club OO/HO layout was a glorified test track with non-specific scenery. But times change .......things move on and the hobby has become more sophisticated There is a demand now for era/period/region/country specific layouts... it seems to us that D&E modellers or other special interest groups (eg American HO) are no longer prepared to put up with 'one size fits all', they want something specific. So TDMRC has built a Multi-Gauge Running Track (MGRT) which has four circuits and by clever design it can accommodate 14 different gauges from 'Z' to 'G' ... this is for anyone to run everything. We are now building a 'common fiddle yard' in 16.5mm gauge with 14 tracks which will be able to accept multiple scenic fronts. The first scenic front is a Southern Region 3rd Rail electric suburban scene based on the real Twickenham station (pre-WW2) but now re-imagined into 1961, although the group is building up a fantastic collection of 1961 era 3rd rail stock, once built the layout will be available on club nights to run 'anything'. However, once the common fiddle yard is finished (later this year) the committee is keen for other scenic fronts to be built to diversify the club's appeal........ some of us would like that next scenic front to be D&E. BTW ..... we do sometimes have D&E running on our new 7mm layout (see below) and we plan a 'Diesel Running Night' on or 'O' gauge layout in September - all welcome!
  23. Bringing the thread back on topic if I may, anyone who's interested in D&E, of any period, and who is planning to come along on July 25th should ask to speak to our Chairman, Steve Waterfield. Steve is leading the push to get TDMRC into the 21st century ......or at least the late 20th century!
