  1. I'll get back to that 1980s/90s tenement later ............. Sometimes I feel I need to take 'before and after' photos of a modelling day .... just to prove to myself that I've made any progress! Here's the latest 1950s tenement at 9am today ..... Hopefully some progress to show later
  2. Regret couldn't make this event, but have seen some photos of the Northwick 'upgrade' - a great advertisement for Twickenham & District MRC and clubs in general!

  5. Having reduced my work hours to 32 I am now able to do the same amount of modelling without being quite so manic. This week I spent a day trying to edit down the 2300 stil photos I took in china ..... in addition to the 7 hours of video! I have also been doing various bits and pieces with the tenements .......... here is the latest ...... 1980s/90s style with posh shops underneath .... this will be positioned next to the hotel hence the posh shops...
  6. You wanted BLUE DIESELS! We are giving you BLUE DIESELS! Well ONE at least! And we have one of these too........... And if you want one of these .... we've got one of these as well!
  7. OK .... things are moving on big time with the scenery now. One of the biggest issues with any model display (not just model railways) is the backscene and the link between the 3D modelling and the 2D backscene. Our resident computer expert, Grant, has been working on this issue virtually (pun intended!) from day one and recently he brought along some mock-ups to show us his progress.... At one end of the layout the tracks disappear under the Hammersmith Road Bridge ... Here is the basic first draft of the Hammersmith Road Bridge ......Keith's been working on this............... Grant has been busy printing off Kensington Crescent with forced perspective........this runs off the Hammersmith Road Bridge and curves into the backscene...... That Thorneycroft bus will need detailing - and weathering! And two weeks later ........... Keith has added some more detail ..............
  8. To be honest I didn't quite understand the science bit but I take your point. Black is the only suitable spray paint I had handy ... to be honest I think they are more weathered in reality than the photo shows, but I will work on them more A/C units are Bachmann OO ones filed down to HO - YES, filed down from OO to HO!!! I've bought about 120 of them PAul
  9. To be absolutely honest off the top of my head I can't remember ..... will check later but I think it's 13. The one shown in my last post is actually (in effect) low relief in the sense that whilst it is 98% full depth it sits against a backscene and so has only one 'face'. There are four fully 3D blocks and nine low-relief ones with only one face .... I think! This next photo (below) was taken in Dec last year and shows the building I've just 'finished' in situ against the (white) backscene that will hide the fiddle yard ..... in front of it are two of the then embryonic fully 3d blocks I mentioned.
  10. Still not 100% back into modelling a week after my China trip - jet lag and old age! Am bored with making interiors so am fitting more security bars and weathering. Have finally (nearly) finished the first of the non-balconied (1970/80s) tenements ..... Here is the (nearly) finished item head on ... photographed outside under natural light... And on a random baseboard just to show how it will look on the layout
  11. Event Name: Twickenham MRC open day Classification: Open Day Address: Kerswell Hall, Wills Cres,HounslowTW3 2JF Day 1: July 25th Opening times Day 1: 10am to 4pm Prices: free, but donations welcome Disability access: Unknown Car parking: Unknown Website: www.tdmrc.org.uk Organising body: Twickenham & District MRC Organiser: chairman.tdmrc@gmail.com Twickenham & District MRC are pleased to announce an OPEN DAY on July 25th 2015. All layout groups will be represented and visitors are invited to bring their own stock along to run on the Club's Multi-Gauge Running Track which can accommodate everything from Z to G! Pride of place will go to the club's new 7mm layout ADDISON ROAD which will be having its first ever public showing in its completed form. This is the club's most ambitious layout to date and a full history of how it has been built can be found in its own RMweb thread here .... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/91730-twickenham-mrcs-addison-road-kensington-olympia-in-7mm/page-2&do=findComment&comment=1821873 Our clubrooms are on the ground floor and wheelchair users have enjoyed our facilities in the past, but please note that we do not have disabled toilets.
  12. Now starting to fit security bars to the ground floor windows........
  13. OK ...... have been somewhat distracted today with money/banking issues ..... not to mention planning a wedding! But have managed some more signage ... and a better photograph!
  14. Well............. ermmm ........... if anyone wants to join and bring along some blue diesels I'm sure they will be welcomed with open arms! Seriously, I think there may be some blue diesels somewhere in the group, but at a recent running session this was seen ..... ... Big News?? Let me clarify .... 1. Have just received loads of photos of a MAJOR step forward with the layout .... all that recent planning has resulted in a major leap forward on the scenery front .... more next time. 2. ADDISON ROAD is to make its first ever public appearance as a RUNNING LAYOUT on July 25th - if you live within striking distance of SW London make a note of the date and come and see us in the flesh. Now back to modelling !!
  15. Apologies for lack of news from the Addison Road group - this thread relies on photos to add interest and much of progress lately has either been admin/planning or wiring - neither of which produce great photos! Signalling has progressed however ..... and signals do produce good photos ..... Here is our first complete WORKING signal .... some detail inc rodding still to be added .. And our tallest signal is under construction but its size is causing problems because we have to store the baseboards in a stack and distance between boards is tight! Not all progress has been in signalling ............ paving has been extended too.... Oops! Hadn't realised that the photos would be so small! Have just received some BIG NEWS for the next posting - keep watching!!
  16. Hi Back from China Have been experimenting with upgrading the buildings I had previously signed off as 'done' - at this rate the layout will never be ready to exhibit!! Here is the first experimental sign ... bigger and attached to the balcony as opposed to small and hidden underneath the balcony.
  17. TDMRC have just announced an OPEN DAY on July 25th (10am - 4pm) in our clubrooms in Kerswell Hall, Wills Crescent, Whitton, TW3 2JF. Whilst all layout groups will be represented, the star attraction will be the first public showing of the club's ambitious new 7mm layout - ADDISON ROAD. You can follow progress of this highly researched project in the layout's thread in the 7+mm section of RMWEB More details of the OPEN DAY as/when known.
  18. Am in China now .... photographing REAL STEAM and looking for ideas ...... more when I get back
  19. Am just playing with a new camera with tripod attached. Here are some updated interiors - some with added detail since the last batch..........
  20. The 3d printing is not going anywhere at the moment and so back to interiors..... Mr Li has just got up and hasn't made his bed yet and if you look carefully you will see a photo of his girlfriend on the table beside the bed .... she's keeping an eye on him!
  21. Ok ...... in order to give my hotel some variety (from the tenements) I have arranged some 3d printed windows. Here is the first test shot ... Front ........ Back....... And in a panel ...
  22. It's the early morning of February 14th 2005 and Mr Chang's youngest son is looking for a Valentine's gift for his new girlfriend Whilst his grandmother is explaining what's wrong with her to the chemist who is pointing out the problem on the skeleton on the wall.
