Twickenham MRC's new D&E layout in OO gauge
TEAMYAKIMA replied to TEAMYAKIMA's topic in Modelling BR Blue
Hello Phil Thanks for your comment Most of our members consider a 9f 2-10-0 as modern era so I think we can assume that we have no DEMU members in our mist at the moment ( I was a member for a year some time ago) I think some of us realise that in order to move forward and grow as a club we need to broaden our appeal. The club leadership is open to ALL ideas to make a D&E layout a reality. Basically it's a chicken and egg situation ... we go around in a circle............... 1. The club doesn't have a D&E layout because we have no-one interested in D&E 2. No-one interested in D&E joins our club because we don't have a D&E layout There is a move by some to break this circle ............ hopefully some will join us! -

Right we're back ... see previous posting! The footbridge has been test fitted - just look at that detail! Not to mention a new signal .... so close to the baseboard edge that the arm overhangs the board! Last but by no means least .... work has started on the Russell Road petrol station- 268 replies

OK .... the modelling pace is quickening! Our official 'launch' at our Open Day (July 25th) is fast approaching! Work has concentrated on the main station building area .. fitting the new gas lamps that hang under the canopies.. More photos and news to be added later today ... come back later! -
Hello Twickenham & District MRC wants to build a D&E OO gauge layout! Come down to discuss how YOU could help make that dream a reality. FYI ... here's our website www.tdmrc.org.uk

Twickenham & District MRC are working towards our OPEN DAY on July 25th. Centre stage will be the club's large and ambitious new 7mm layout ADDISON ROAD see our RMWEB thread here .... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/91730-twickenham-mrcs-addison-road-kensington-olympia-in-7mm/ All other groups (OO & N) will be represented and the club's Multi-Gauge Running Track (MGRT) will be up - so bring YOUR models to run! The MGRT supports 14 different gauges from Z to G including TT and S!

As regards our backscene being fictitious, if you are referring to the terraced houses shown in the view of the SE corner that was in posting 29, this is a mock-up of Kensington Crescent which was completed in 1820 and demolished in the mid 1930s. Between 1948 an d 1950 a large office block ... Charles House ... was built on the site which became HMRC's London Tax Office. This in-turn has recently been replaced by three large blocks of flats. As our layout is (nominally) set just post Grouping we are modelling Kensington Cres .... obviously is it was set in BLUE diesel period it would be correct to have Charles House. -

As promised, I have spoken Grant about this issue. Firstly, the layout is built to be viewed from the Olympia side i.e. Olympia is behind the viewer. If we had built it from the other side Olympia would have been something over 2 feet high making operating from the back very difficult. We feel it would have also dominated the scene and taken the eye away from the railway. -
Haven't posted recently - doesn't mean there has been no progress! Built another tenement but I guess you're pretty bored with them by now - they all look the same! So it's the interiors that sets each apart .... here are two nearing completion.... Small kiosk ....... Tyre shop ..... Tues and Wednes off this week ... will fit these and start on a supermarket.

Hello Martin Thanks for your comments. Certainly such a project would be difficult outside a club and this project is a great advert for clubs in general and Twickenham MRC in particular. Core team members have taken the lead in various areas ... Grant in prototype research, Peter in technical developments, Pat in signalling, Keith and Steve in electrics, Ewen in track and Graham just makes things work properly............... a real team effort. But 2016 sees a new challenge .......... the Addison Road team are taking the layout to its first outside exhibition ... and it's a BIG one! May 6th 2016 will see us at the 2016 ALSRM 'READING SHOW' ................ but we'll need to enlarge the team in order to make that final push ........... so NEW MEMBERS welcome .... why not come along to our Open Day on July 25th and consider joining us! Live too far away to contribute??? Don't believe it! One of our group members lives in Chicago, USA! -

It's mid-May and all efforts are being made to launch the layout on an unsuspecting public at the club's OPEN DAY on July 25th - see RMweb diary. So, quite a lot has been going on behind the scenes since we last posted.......... the extra add-on scenery only boards have meant a new mounting for the control panel behind the new backscene.......... Brandon has cut down the baseboard bolts on his lathe ............. so setting up and taking down will be quicker now Clive has brought along his new Siphon H ... -
Hello John Thanks for your comments. The ones in the prototype photo carry sulphuric acid. I think yellow on China Rail signifies dangerous cargo. I'm looking forward to seeing the layout in action too!! The layout can only be set up at exhibitions or if I hire the local church hall! I hope to have more photos to post soon.... watch this space!

Twickenham MRC's recent support of a model railway weekend at Kempton Steam Museum was a great success.......... the museum has now produced a promo video which features all four club layouts we sent along... Northwick the club's current OO exhibition layout, two member's layouts and our 'Drive-a-train' for younger visitors.

Two more days work and progress has been slow as ever............ Here is the latest 1980s style building (with posh shops) which we last saw a few weeks back ..... hopefully you will notice that the r/h 2/3rds of the frontage is weathered ........... hope to finish this tomorrow before going to work...
