  1. This Herbal medicine shop sells lots of perfume and those strange souvenir tea sets that the Chinese seem to like ... Here is the back wall awaiting to be fitted with well stacked shelves .... of perfume and souvenir tea sets
  2. And all put together for the first time - still stuff to do though! Only just noticed the two white wires showing through one of the hallways!! The herbal chemists shop is new and needs some extra detailing ... the detail inside the counter I spent a whole morning on is virtually impossible to see - even in close up let alone from 4ft 6ins away!
  3. Sometimes manufacturers seem to play fast and loose with scale when it comes to scenic items - Heljan are the worst - and whilst the deviation may be small when you put an overscale item next to an underscale one then trouble starts. So it was with chairs. I've bought loads of chairs and stools from Faller/Preiser....... the Faller garden furniture seemed fine until I made one (3 bits) ..... somewhat overscale I thought... like two Chinese could sit side by side .... more a sofa than a chair! So I cut it down to size! It may be subtle , but worth the effort in my opinion.
  4. Here's what I've been working on today ...... the Chinese herbal medicine shop counter ... and in situ.........
  5. I find the RM to be excellent .... HERMES are a disgrace. The RM leave a card if I'm not in ... I can arrange another delivery or even a change of delivery address. Hermes use local delivery people who use ther own cars. I ordered 10 aerosols of Dullcote ..... they were sent by HERMES ...... I was upstairs in the modelling room .... I heard a knock on the door ....... I went downstairs immediately to find my parcel on the doorstep and the delivery woman getting into her car and driving off...... our front gate was open and the pavement is only 4ft from our front door ..... an invitation to steal the parcel!
  6. Thanks for these nice comments .... I don't consider myself a good modeller .... I'm just someone who makes the most of what talent I do have ..... anyone could achieve what I've achieved with this layout ....it's all plastic kits and PECO track after all!
  7. Here is the final version of shop unit under restoration ... sorry about the quality of the photos..
  8. Two of the units are still not fixed to the main structure yet as the building is not finished with weathering... the next unit will be a chemists and then maybe a doctors
  9. Hello again Another day off sick has given me more time to get on with the next shop unit. This one is owned by Mr Chang's cousin and the floor is a terrible state and so some family members are re-concreting it.
  10. OK, next work in progress is some kind of material wholesaler - not sure exactly what they sell but Mr Chang is on hand to write out the invoices - NO CREDIT!
  11. That's not good whether he's a trader or not! Apologies to all - I had not realised that he was a serial offender or that people had previously contacted him. Someone needs to report this item to ebay - has anyone done that? That said - how do we explain that 99.8% of people left positive feedback - they must be happy!
  12. Ok ... two stools ... one virtually impossible to see and some bits on the work table - is that a radio at the back? Enough now! On to the next one!
  13. I am sure that this trader (with a 99.8% positive rating) has not done this deliberately..... if he has then he's a moron and morons don't get 99.8% positive feedback. So it's what we in the trade call a 'mistake'. As an ebay seller myself in the past I know this kind of thing can happen - right description, wrong photo. So rather than just huff/puff about it I have contacted the seller via ebay and pointed out his mistake
  14. It's coming up for the Warners/BRM show in Doncaster this weekend and TDMRC will be taking along our OO layout NORTHWICK - why not come and say 'hello'? TDMRC caters for all levels of OO modellers .... 1. If you're into serious prototype driven modelling then you'll love our latest OO project - TWICKENHAM JUNCTION - it combines the accurate trackplan and buildings of the real pre-war TWICKENHAM station with 1960s era steam and electric emus. This gives us the best of both worlds - the more interesting pre-war station combined with the 1960s trains that many members remember from childhood. Serious OO modelling with a local twist. This layout should be running in 2016 - why not join the team building it? 2. If your tastes are a little more catholic and/or you want to join a group running an established layout, then it's NORTHWICK for you. The club's current OO flagship has been updated and improved to prolong it's life - available for regular running on club nights. 3. If you're a collector of old model trains or if you just want to run-in your latest purchase/build then we can offer the club's Multi-Gauge-Running-Track - three circuits of OO/HO track plus 12 other gauges! The MGRT is being upgraded in Jan/Feb 2015 to make it easier/quicker to set up, but if this sounds your sort of thing then do come down and see it in action once the works complete.
  15. Bad news! My partner, Debbie, has read SHMD's post and has challenged me to do it - but mahjong, not chess!
  16. Dad is admiring his new picture he's just bought, whereas his daughter wants to show him something on the other side of the room BTW ...... have added some more details to the cycle repair shop ..... now all it needs is some tools, oil cans etc
  17. I have started a new contract at work, cutting my days to four , in order to spend more time modelling. Which is just as well as this new shop interior appears to have taken all day! Was watching a Telerail Chinese steam video yesterday and picked up some useful ideas ... Telerail always include a bit of 'local colour'. One idea was a bicycle repair shop .... It's a pity that much of this detail won't be seen once the buildings are fitted to the baseboards! I must be mad!!
  18. Apologies - I should have been clearer ... someone was suggesting that all the guy had done was slide fishplates on .... thereby questioning the seller's statement that he had spent 5 hours on it.... my only point really was that there had been a lot of work done ..... whether it's good value is a more subjective point but there has been a substatntial amount of 'added value'
  19. I think if you study the photos you will see that a lot of work has gone into this .... it is certainly not just a case of simply sliding fishplates on and if he says he took 5 hours then I am prepared to believe him. I have taken the trouble to look at his ebay history and he seems an honest trader selling a quality product to those who have neither the skill, the time or the inclination to do it themselves.
  20. Well personally I would like to say 'goodbye' to Mr joker ... I was started to make a reply along the lines of those above when I realised that the comment about double slips was by one of the so-called jokers on this forum. The worst thing about this forum is the number of so-called jokers who waste everyone's time with their so-called humour.
  21. When I looked at the listing I thought I recognised the photo and when I saw the seller came from Greenford I put two and two together and realised I knew him - or perhaps used to know him is a better term. He and his son were a member of my club a few years back - VERY keen - 90 minute train journey with three changes EACH way - that's keen! Son has lost interest so father reluctantly selling ...... not a bad person or someone out to rip anyone off, but maybe a little optimistically priced.
  22. Have been off work sick today .... found some time indoors to add some extra details to the interiors ....
  23. Suggestion 1 My new exhibition layout will feature banking .... coal train enters yard from l/h .... two bankers attach .... train leaves upgrade stage right .............. bankers drift back down into loop ..... repeat for two days! Suggestion 2 Diesel hauled electric trains on detour on non-electrified lines ... not unheard of, but rare.
