  2. Much more interesting than how they are normally named ! The 58s I have a lot of photos on with the Eastleigh - didcot - Carlisle axis. Normally they were carrying MOD stuff and silver bullets full of liquid calcium carbonate from quidhampton near Salisbury - I may get some of the Dapol version. I've also seen pictures of 58s at Dereham and ashchurch with traditional warflat / war well and the armour d stuff on board .

  4. Great stuff, and I love the unusual loco name. I've amassed a lot of pics of military trains in the late 90s and early 00s. I'd say the trip workings were mainly 37s with the odd 47. Trunk workings mainly RFD 47s, Then when EWS brought RFD , a lot of the trunk workings went to 58s as EWS rapidly got rid of the 47s. There has been more 60s in recent years ( by recent I mean after 2001 !), inc my favourite 60081 in green with a long rake of old VDAs vans from marchwood to Eastleigh
  5. Well,you get to respray it, add extra pick ups, and stick all the detail bits back. What's not to like for £130 ?
  6. So, I've mainly been sourcing supplies behind the scenes - more ratio fencing for the depot and wire for the barbed wire on top as ratio don't give you much. It's 0.5mm if anyone encounters the same issue. Thoughts turned to the front right of the layout - the ' water feature '. This isn't going to be a canal anymore, more a corner of a lake or specifically an ex - brick pit , like Calvert or forders. Reason being there are good examples of sailing clubs on lakes near both these rail locations , and I like the contrast between heavy freight and quaint little sailing boats. Also should I want to in the future I can justify binliner trains and extra spoil trains to the other worked out pits off scene. The water looked rubbish TBH , that was an experiment with acrylic sheet....I've painted over it and I'll either do the 400 layers of varnish job, or try some ' realistic water '. I'm just building up the scene, with slipways and a unit models shed I've finally found a use for. Obviously it's no where near finished and will be fenced off from the portacabin area eventually. I also was unhappy with the lack of a view break where the trains go off stage - that footbridge wasn't doing it. So I ordered some trees from the online model tree shop. Bit of brown paint on the trunks, insert a bit of wire up the trunk and hey presto. I really like these trees - they aren't big brushes nor intricate etched - somewhere in between and at £8 for 5 I think are great value ! Finally I added an extra line in the fiddle yard - it's not attached to the others as its to plonk my peco loco lift on if I need to remove any engines that are not needed for a while. The white tufts are foam to stop any locos I knock falling off the base board entirely. That's all for now !

  9. Maybe they just kept it quiet till it was ready. Interesting about the olivias - that would make sense if they were in fact trying to fit a prototype to the body moulding rather than vice versa. I can't believe they would choose to model a 3 TG engine with a number that's already been done

  11. STOP PRESS ! Just checked KMRC Facebook page - someone else was querying the cock up, Apparently the bars are there they just don't show up in the photo for some reason, So all should be well !
  12. It's a shame they didn't do some with transrail branding, I'm not certain how hard the RFD logos would be to come off

  14. Correct me if I'm wrong, And I hope to the fullest extent I am, but that KMRC shot has 672 without the extra bars on the cantrail louvred that the real one had ? This was why when Bachmann originally did 672 it limited the renumber options I think ? Please tell me I'm wrong....

  16. I'll get there slowly - it's all about taking more off at present . To get the exhaust stains I might try ground pastel mixed with Matt varnish , I've used that before
  17. What's a tuaam ? I see from Brian Daniels oca pics that both short and long wheelbase landrovers went in them. Must have been a 25 point turn to get them in.... I'm going to get some trailers to fill the gaps on those OCAs, I quite fancy one of those snow cats and some quad bikes as well. Ben, I see they do a RAF landrover and a Berlin. Scheme as well, but would the army be shifting RAF vehicles I wonder ? I was tempted to get some more
  18. Oo oh, I gotta sort that 37 roof out.... I can see a big clean splodge where I removed a bit I didn't like with IPA.....
  19. No problem at all - happy to talk military vehicles anytime ! And on a little plank like this, they are more important to the story than the trains almost. I've been messing up OCAs that I brought second hand. Got two more ' Dutch ' ones so now have 5 in total. Also took the landrovers apart on the other two and added ' documentation ' to the inside of the windscreens. Removed aerials as I was told these were put on at the depots. Finally, I've decided to stick with 3 class 37s for now. The Dutch one, the mainline blue one and this one. I like 37174 as it was one of the few EWS 37s I actually saw - on a engineers at princes risborough ( whilst I passing with my new girlfriend - I also remember getting absolutely twisted that night on vodka & redbull), ah nostaligia for 1998..... It's only when I look at it that the errors jump out at me , for a 1998 version It needs - yellow headcode boxes - clips for lamp bracket - 2 piece snowploughs ( they omitted the middle ) On the weathering side - roofs too muddy - buffers also muddy ( painted black for now ) - bufferbeam too muddy and detail parts not weathered at all. I've attempted to muck the roof a bit more, but I'm not convinced as yet. I removed the centre snowplough from the new style bracket that fits in the NEM and painted the bracket black so it's not noticeable . Also put a bot of muck on the ploughs. The Bachmann detailing kit is a it feeble these days - 2 vac pipes, 2 couplings, 2 multi workers and 2 ploughs - no air pipes at all , I'll have to get some from my stash. Anyway this is what it looks like now - it'll need a lot more time

  22. I remember seeing the original incarnation in MR. I was very impressed, especially with the accurate buildings and signals.....not forgetting the military trains. Makes the modern railway look interesting !

  24. I'm assuming drax is aware of the retail cost of comparative wagons, Personally I dont think they care if they sell any or not to modellers, this is just a way they might shift a few. The only way I can see this working is with my favourite half station or half yard with just one or two on scene to suggest the presence of a longer train
