Hi, it would be good if there was a model of the experimental 47601/901. Fred

No manufacturer have ever done that …limited number, colours and geographical area may scupper the idea

Will the red and gold pseudo LMS Coronation livery ever be made? It might be like the purple deltic, some people hate it but enough people love it to sell out easily. Would make a great exclusive.

    Do they ? Anecdotal ..

Picked this (below pics) Kernow exclusive 47 up at Ally Pally from Kernow stand. Lovely model, added the bits and put goalpost couplings on and a bit of weathering, but snowploughs too big so have to find some from somewhere.

However being a DC only modeler it was a bit disappointing it did not have cab lighting like previous Bachy’s. Lesson learned never assume. Unfortunately it was only after chatting to Bachmann near the end of the day they said they no longer do this on DC only models.

Their reason was, it was too complicated, and when I pressed that Cavelex could do it, they gave a politicians answer, “well as I said it’s too complicated”, me- “but as I said Cav can, why can’t Bach,” Bach “well as I just said before….” etc etc.

They sounded just like AS when I asked if the 31, and next batch of 37’s would have DC cab lighting, almost word for word. Cancelled my AS pre-orders on this basis.

Just got As crew to fit but could not undo screws

(cab lights for my dusk mode lights)

I’m confused. You moaned to Bachmann the 47 didn’t have DC cab lights, then cancelled your AS orders cos they said the 31 and 37 would ?

Why not stick with AS for the new models ?

Presumably there's relatively little in the way of publication cost for the stand alone virtual magazine (as the content has already been generated for inclusion in BRM) then there's no reason not to do it (excuse the double negative)

Ah but BRM is 5.99, traction 4.99 so no point not buying BRM or is the traction content smaller ?

  5. Interesting viewpoint from inside there.

I think burkhardt was popular with enthusiasts as trains appeared in places they hadn’t for years , and he had to reinstate a lot of old popular heaps to pull them,

If I was a shareholder or on the board, I’d probably have shuddered at all the trials and uneconomic short trains running around. I know there’s a case to run some to try  and get momentum on a route but seem seemed loss leaders all through.

  6. Aerotoxic poisoning is a real thing, I haven’t followed it recently but iirc a number of estates of deceased BA pilots were bringing cases against airlines and manufacturers .

Aircraft use bleed air for air con, ie air taken off the engine and filtered is then fed into the cabin for pressurisation and heating . If there is a seal problem engine oil vapour can leak in . You don’t want to be breathing either . The 146 and 757 were big on this - I worked on both and had fume incidents on both. In the latter we ended up having blood tests to check what we were exposed to

Comparison between Heljan D1960 and new Bachmann 47 435.

Is it my imagination or is the bachy one way higher ?

Heljan wins on the front footsteps , over those abominations attached to the body or chassis ( dependant on where they end up ) on bluebox version .

It always seems Bachmann has a Friday afternoon moment with something . Footsteps on this , snowploughs on the 37

Ah apologies. It seems that I misread the question. Locos from 091 onwards (our series 4 cabs with the second man's vent) were not fitted with the bang grids. 090 the last series 3 was fitted with them.

I always guessed it came from the big side grids on the loco…..or its importance to the …national grid ..

    well I live and learn

  9. Enjoy your model,

but people, please stop making excuses for errors and mistakes .

    It’s 2024, you shouldn’t have to “ fettle “ a brand new model .

And what is that yellow bit by the buffer ?

A friend of mine built a layout based loosely on Paddington many years ago. He didn't call it Paddington as it was very much modified to fit the location. He sadly passed away before it was properly finished but I did take this snap of it in an "under construction" state.

Looks good , but very “ loosely “ I’d say

Guilty as charged, M'lud, although my O Scale layout inspired by Shell Island looks nothing like it beyond the trackplan, more or less. But the simplicity of said plan, and the idea of exchanging trains between B.R. & a Private railway, were the real inspirations that I took from your classic layout, and acknowledged at the time.

If I could've captured a similar sense of space, I would have, but that was never going to happen with O on a board just 12inches wide!!

It’s flattery I think, which I don’t see any issue with . Shell island is on my “ legends “ list because it is so artistically well done and it was one of the first layouts that said to me - you don’t have to cram every inch with track to create a sense of place

  12. Not so much an eBay nightmare but maybe shows the perils of charging  full labour when making layouts professionally - makes even a simple layout horrifically expensive

A bizarre question - why wouldn't it be fine? There aren't model railway police for this sort of thing. If they were, then they would have arrested loads of people for building Ashburton.

They are too busy nicking people building TMDs with 2000 LED lights featuring 1960 Bachmann diesel depots , and stuffed full of colas engines making a racket
