Haha, very true! In fairness to them this piece would've been around 1997-98 so maybe plans changed, or it was just complete misinformation from the start..! 🤣 I was in my early teens reading the article so my thoughts turned to how many locos I could get with my paper round at the time - could've had a little fleet going in the back garden!

Going back to Cavalex Class 60s - may I humbly request Mainline Grey for consideration?

As a shock exposé(!) I found that Fox Transfers' Class 60 'Mainline' logos are scaled wrongly for 4mm and so it's currently impossible to produce an accurate Mainline grey class 60 without otherwise resorting to the old Hornby 'Canisp' release (which even then has logos printed in slightly the wrong place on one side) - please be our salvation chaps!

    Cheers

    James

Early teens ? Do your time lad ..😁

Thats a good call - I’d expect transrail, mainline and loadhaul all to appear .

There wasn’t that many celeb liveries on the 60s back then so I’m also expecting the British steel duo , and the corus duo ( twin pack , model ship exclusive , remortgage my house job ).

The dilemma I have these days is what to replace from my fleet - because I can’t afford to replace the lot

Knew I’d seen it somewhere. Glad to see there is a following. Always liked the 58’s, spent many a shift in them.

    Interesting .

The Heljan / EFE 58 hung around on the shelves a lot - might be it’s a dated model  or maybe there isn’t enough following for a new super detailed one ? And I suppose cos they disappeared so long back there’s no current market .

    Personally though , I wouldn’t mind a couple . 58020 and 040 in faded mainline were the 2 I remember seeing .

Anyway back to the 60 . IKB looks great - it was only a matter of time before someone did it ! Gotta watch all these pre orders though , I’m not Elon musk !

It didn't really; most were the last to sell and most discounted. A bit of a sad reflection of the how little some were prepared to do even 12-15 years ago.

Ah ok . I think I’m misquoting someone who said they flew off the shelves - not sure if that was keen modeller or a retailer .

Edit - I’m sure a retailer said they sold stacks which surprised me - might have been our friends at trains4U IIRC

How about a series 1 series 2 and a 3 in triple grey un numbered and no sector

same with the large logo blue and the  grey then we can just decal up as many as we can each afford lol

It’s been suggested before with other model manufacturers but blue box wouldn’t do it because in their view it doesn’t sell - there’s a large % of modellers unable or unwilling to add decals … worked for Heljan though with their unnumbered 47s

No, I mean liveries correct for a 56. Those things with no horn grilles and massive extra side grilles look awful

I'll be honest I hate the things

I’m not really into the current scene but  I think the maroon is the best of these dog dinners … but TBH , modern GBRF looks best on these with big numbers as they bear a passing resemblance to the 70 s but are a modern concept .

i can’t help that think conspiracy wise GB are on 10% of every wacky livery variation Bachmann sell

    I'm with @2ManySpams on this.

I exhibit my layouts and the approach I take is to weather the whole layout using the same pallette, locos, stock, buildings, trackwork, everything.

In fact, thinking back to the exhibitions I attended last year, as an example, I can say that what your describing here, in respect of buildings and ballast,  is the exception, rather than the rule.

My current layouts and their buildings etc...

    That’s it ….I’m an X …my kids are Z….im guessing any grandkids are to be B ;)

My kids sometimes call me boomer just to wind me up. Even they know I’m not that old

  8. Saw a video with Pete waterman , I think he was right in the concept that kids today want to see todays railways as much as we all did in our day .

I imagine in 30 years time all the Gen z who liked trains will be nostalgic for  the covid era and building layouts with the units of today utilising their newly found extra disposable income .

And so the cycle will continue . As long as their are trains , there will be train fans and by extension modellers

Mind you, the Hornby version I own is actually a fairly recent one, no: 31147 (product no: R3880) which was released in 2021.

I don’t think they’ve done anything to update it other than remove the working fan over time

None at all remotely taken. We are grey / charcoal boxes tho to stick with the box based nomenclature 😃

As a system it could almost work . Cavalex have orange boxes . Revolution have black boxes I think…. Probably recording your data and transmitting to the wife/ significant other … :)

I am a proud Irishman but with 3 irish team members and 12 british it’s probably unfair to label us the emerald team ;)

Sorry , no offence intended , it’s just a convenient shorthand to differentiate with blue box and red box . Can we call you green box ? Even though it isn’t ..;)

Painted vans where all the vogue in the 80s turned up a lot at model shows in 80s

They’ve managed to make a robin reliant even less cool, by linking it to trains ,

That wins my achievement award for today ;)

A manufacturer, Accurascale, goes out of their way to make life easier for modellers by introducing a removeable roof panel and gets criticised for it on a painted sample. I'm sure if the experts on here have noticed an anomaly, so will Accurascale themselves. Less chance of damaging your model, therefore more chance of being able to use the lifetime guarantee if needed, what more can you wish for? The liveries look great by the way.

Well , it’s hardly up there with splitting the atom..

everyone’s entitled to their view , and he was just pointing it out . I’m sure the faith I have in the Emerald Isle team , means it’ll be sorted .

A little weathering has been applied to 008. It really brings it to life.

Really brings out the exceptional depth and detail on those bogies …

still dithering about getting one …it’s not core fleet but does look great …
