Here is a nice 'edge of neg' photo of some Stephenson Clarke wagons at Battersea in 1920. The interesting thing is they all appear to be loaded with bricks - the hard blue type with curved tops for 'edging' The return loacation is Aberdare and someone has written 'Please' above the Empty to instruction! Hi, I know very little about ER suburban EMUs, but here is 423 at Enfield Town in 1969 and it appears to be either pulling (impossible) or having an additional coach added. Were they ever extended to 4 coaches? I don't think this could be a loose carriage as it is not at the buffer stops and it is not a parcels vehicle. Cheers Tony

untilPendon Museum's Special Opening Weekend on the 3rd and 4th December will feature services through the Vale of White Horse in the mid-1950s reflecting the transition between GWR and BR steam services during this period. At least 5 special trains running. Motive power includes a Counties, Brit, WD Austerity, 'Kerosene Castle' etc.

Hi Ian, It is the entire image to the left -but to the right there is a Schools on the other (spur) line. Here these strange items are repeated on the Down lines only, there is a similar signal on the Spur line but I cannot tell if there is a phone call box as this would be off the side of the neg. Cheers Tony

I now have information that this neg is taken at Canterbury, on existing piece of line, just before the joining to the new piece of double track main line added (just after WW2?) to join the SER and SECR line to the west of Canterbury West station controlled by the new Canterbury 'B' Junction Signal Box. These strange items appear on both the old and new Down lines just after the new SR signals presumably added at the time - could they be something to do with the signals? Cheers Tony

More unidentified PO Wagons in an old neg!
Rail-Online replied to Rail-Online's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Thanks Stephen, Yes it seems a strange route for an empty wagon to be returning to Nuneaton, presumably at New England it would be routed across via Leicester, or I suppose it could go via the MR then LNWR line via Mkt Harborough to Rugby and then up to Nuneaton. Interesting stuff. Cheers Tony -
Hi, This was captured in 1938 going north up the ECML at Hatfield. The Hardwick wagon has small lettering -I thought they would all have the large later lettering by then, followed by a Stephen Clarke but I cannot work out the next two. Any ideas? I know some people have the clever software that 'turns' wagons at angles to side on so I would love to see the third one so treated. Cheers Tony

Just bumped into a lovely photo of the Goods Yard at Byfield SMJ (page xii) in this Historic England electronic publication on goods warehouses; https://historicengland.org.uk/images-books/publications/railway-goods-shed-and-warehouse-in-england/the-railway-goods-shed-and-warehouse/ Looks like there is a D299 with a full load of house coal - and the wagon number is just about readable..... It is a new pic to me anyway! Cheers Tony

A question for Rob - the magnetic head code holder has two pips on its rear - did you use these, drilling holes in the cab frony to fit it, or attached it in some other way? Cheers Tony -
