  1. Hi, I thought this was rather an unusual signal, with LQ GER(?) arms yet a tubular post. It was just south of Cambridge Stn, with the former LNWR line going off behind it. Is it motor worked as well? Cheers Tony
  2. Other railways and POs considered that the risk to brake lever guides was more (when tipping up) at the end door end of the wagon. I wonder why the MR 'knew best'? Tony
  3. Hi, Yet another MR Open - is it a D299 I wonder! Leith Docks, Scotland in the late 1920s or 1930s by the loco (a Y9) Happy New Year! Tony
  4. Here is a nice 'edge of neg' photo of some Stephenson Clarke wagons at Battersea in 1920. The interesting thing is they all appear to be loaded with bricks - the hard blue type with curved tops for 'edging' The return loacation is Aberdare and someone has written 'Please' above the Empty to instruction! Tony
  5. My best guess is a B&M wagon, I have a vague recolection of a photo of one of their low sided wagons, but I cannot recall where! Tony
  6. Hi, I know very little about ER suburban EMUs, but here is 423 at Enfield Town in 1969 and it appears to be either pulling (impossible) or having an additional coach added. Were they ever extended to 4 coaches? I don't think this could be a loose carriage as it is not at the buffer stops and it is not a parcels vehicle. Cheers Tony

Pendon Museum's Special Opening Weekend on the 3rd and 4th December will feature services through the Vale of White Horse in the mid-1950s reflecting the transition between GWR and BR steam services during this period. At least 5 special trains running. Motive power includes a Counties, Brit, WD Austerity, 'Kerosene Castle' etc.

  9. Hi Ian, It is the entire image to the left -but to the right there is a Schools on the other (spur) line. Here these strange items are repeated on the Down lines only, there is a similar signal on the Spur line but I cannot tell if there is a phone call box as this would be off the side of the neg. Cheers Tony
  10. Hi, Yes that is the line. TBH it is not an area that I know of at all! Thought it might be a help to show a little more of the infrastructur and the signal. The spur is off-image to the right. Cheers Tony
  11. I now have information that this neg is taken at Canterbury, on existing piece of line, just before the joining to the new piece of double track main line added (just after WW2?) to join the SER and SECR line to the west of Canterbury West station controlled by the new Canterbury 'B' Junction Signal Box. These strange items appear on both the old and new Down lines just after the new SR signals presumably added at the time - could they be something to do with the signals? Cheers Tony
  12. Hi, These are now to me. At first I thought they may be some sort of train detection but they are too far inwards to be activated by the train flanges. I suppose they may be some form of surveying equipment but there are just two per running line. Your help is appreciated. Cheers, Tony
  13. Thanks Stephen, Yes it seems a strange route for an empty wagon to be returning to Nuneaton, presumably at New England it would be routed across via Leicester, or I suppose it could go via the MR then LNWR line via Mkt Harborough to Rugby and then up to Nuneaton. Interesting stuff. Cheers Tony
  14. Hi, This was captured in 1938 going north up the ECML at Hatfield. The Hardwick wagon has small lettering -I thought they would all have the large later lettering by then, followed by a Stephen Clarke but I cannot work out the next two. Any ideas? I know some people have the clever software that 'turns' wagons at angles to side on so I would love to see the third one so treated. Cheers Tony
  15. Just bumped into a lovely photo of the Goods Yard at Byfield SMJ (page xii) in this Historic England electronic publication on goods warehouses; https://historicengland.org.uk/images-books/publications/railway-goods-shed-and-warehouse-in-england/the-railway-goods-shed-and-warehouse/ Looks like there is a D299 with a full load of house coal - and the wagon number is just about readable..... It is a new pic to me anyway! Cheers Tony
  16. Thanks Rob, I will have to experiment with that tacky wax........ Just finished converting one to EM - easy job except the whistles are very vulnerable, will give it a run on Tuesday. Tony
  17. A question for Rob - the magnetic head code holder has two pips on its rear - did you use these, drilling holes in the cab frony to fit it, or attached it in some other way? Cheers Tony
  18. Wow that really did go off topic!! If you want to see the complete image that the vans were cropped from it is loco 92206 on the Rail-Online website, just search for the loco number www.rail-online.co.uk Cheers Tony
  19. The M&SWJR will be opearating all day Sat & Sunday with a formal 'ribbon cutting' ceremony at 16.00hrs. There will be 6 trains running on the line representing the period from 1924 to 1937. This is in addition to the normal trains on Dartmoor and The Vale.
  20. Thanks everyone for the prototype info - no doubt the author will use some of this in his upcoming book on 9Fs. Cheers Tony
  21. Hi, The image below is a complete fitted train heading on the Up line at Dawlish in 1960. Can anyone speculate what the vans are carrying as they look like specialist vehicles to me......... Thanks for your help in advance Cheers Tony
  22. It is not there so where can it be!!! It is a front 3/4 shot of a block train of these wagons headed by a 4F coming out of Headstone Tunnel, Monsal Dale. (tried the WSP 4F books as well.....) Tony
  23. These are both Colin Ashby plastic body kits which he supplied with slaters underframes. Quite scarce and difficult to get hold of nowadays. Cheers Tony
