  1. How about having a go at modeling the Hunterston loading terminal. It was also used for loading MGRs with coal.
  2. ALL CHANGE I have decided to rip up Lackenthorpe and move to OO and try DCC sound. The change has got my mojo back, I have not gone anywhere near the layout in along while, I've got boxes of rolling stock that have not seen the light of day. So it's time for a BIG change. Have been slowly selling off my N gauge rolling stock and using the proceeds to purchase OO stock, track etc and a DCC controller. Have put new base boards down and will have a scenic area of around 16x2 feet with a loop along side the other side of the shed. Will be the same era and be will be a freight only layout so I can reduce the amount of stock and will only have four loco types. A big influence has been the rolling stock that is going to be produced by the likes of Accurascale and Cavalex, quality models made by enthusiastic modellers who listen to their customers. Lexi our GSD has also changed considerably, she's a big strong athletic girl now,!!!!
  3. I all .... a little progress on a couple of scenic areas by adding some scatter material and a drivers signing on building with car parking. Jez
  4. Hi Rich..... still a long term project, will have future in some form along with other projects. Distracted by a new member of the family. Jez
  5. Hi All. It's been a while since any progress, but found some time over the weekend. Constructed the road bridge that forms the scenic break at the north end, along with the embankment/cutting that form scenic breaks. The road also crosses the running lines by a girder bridge that has been fixed in place. A couple of shots of the the whole layout looking from either direction, still not fixed all the track down yet and just placed water tower, wash plant etc. Jez
  6. Hi. Not at the moment mate. Progress will start again soon. Cheers.... Jez
  7. Hi all Been away from home with work, so not much to show. A birds eye view from the roof of the main repair building on th progress of the fuel tank storage area, along with an embankment which will help to hide the hole that will allow locos to access the depot. Also added a stores/workshop building along the backscene which has a roller shutter door that'll access a fenced off storage area. Jez
  8. Hi all. A little progress on the heavy maintenance building. Constructed a roof it's in five separate sections using some thick 2mm card along with plasticard, it's just been placed on top and roughly weathered. Pretty pleased with how it's turned out so far, now how to get all five sections to sit right and line up correctly! Jez
  9. Hi all A little progress on what will become the admin building which will sit in front of the main repair depot. A Heavy weight class 37 and a 56 sit in front of both structures. Not sure about the Metals sub sectors logo above the door, it's a bit on the large side. Jez
  10. Hi all. A bit more progress on the serviceing shed.... added a stores building and covered storage area which sits nicely along side the whash plant. Will add more weathering and detailing particularly to the rooftop which has bee chopped about somewhat. Jez
  11. Hi all Decided to chop up the serviceing building again! Will have one through road that can accommodate two locos and a single dead end one. By reducing the width of one end of the building it gives more space so the wash plant doesn't look to enclosed and will give me the option of a siding along side. I think this a better fit, to it's more compact and is an unusual shaped building. Will add rooftop detailing and weathering as construction progresses. (Still not glued together). Jez
  12. Hi all A little progress.... decided on using a footbridge that will give access to the depot and provides a scenic break, used a Kestrel kit and reduced the span length. The water tower will also help break up and cover the depot access road that'll go off scene. For the other side I've used a girder bridge, its a laser cut kit sprayed with red under coat. It's meant for a rail bridge, but I'll use it as a road bridge scenic break. Reasonable happy how they've turned out but will need some weathering. Jez
  13. Hi all. A bit of progress... added the side boards and gave them a quick spray. Placed the part built buildings along with the track and turnouts just to get a feel of how they look, and not to clutter the space I have available. The two lane building has been cut in half and reduced in length, its still able to accommodate four locos easily. I also wanted a through lane for the wash plant to sit on and not a dead end. Jez
  14. Hi all Progress so far.... basic oval laid using Kato unitrak, simple to operate and most of it will be hidden. Access to the depot will be from the inner line behind the backscene....note the Kato turnout. A hole will be cut to allow access which will be covered by overlapping embankments. Backscene attached to base board and sprayed white and grey with Halfords undercoat. Jez.
  15. Hi Starting a new N gauge project that will sit on a 2x5 board. A traction maintenance depot will take centre stage with a freight only line running along the front looping around the rear hidden behind the backscene. There will be two main buildings, one a large four lane repair/ maintenance facility that will be scratch built , based on the main building at Landore and Cardiff. Nothing to do with a Western Region theme I just like the look of these tall structures. The second main structure will be a two lane through serviceing/ refuelling facility, not sure about how it will turn out at the moment, have three at present to choose from. A wash plant and a underframe cleaning pit will also be included along with offices and stores buildings. The Era will BR sectorisation late 80s-90s with the main theme being Trainload Freight subsectors with classes 20,31,37,56,60 which will provide traction for traffic for the near by heavy industries. Trainload Steel will be sponsoring the depot, but other trainload sectors locos will be based along with departmental and regional railways. Here is photo of what the main maintenance building will based on. (Ignore the hst). Jez
  16. Hi all Not much progress... An artic been loaded by a forklift and the some of the metal sector wagons that will be used on the layout for moving finished product from the works. An 08 shunting stock and a new class 60 bringing empty BAAs to the reception sidings. Jez
  17. Hi all. Not much to show.....just a little weathering on a couple of break down /rerailing wagons and a pair of TTAs tank wagons. Here is a photo of where they will spending most of there time at the rear of the depot. Next major job is ballasting the main line and air brushing the whole layout.... depot, track and works structures along with most of the rolling stock. Jez
  18. Hi all Making the most of good weather, a bit of patch work on the largest half relief building on the layout. It has been knocked about a bit so covered up the marks by....giving the looking as though building has had panels removed and replaced. Also sorting out the pipe work that will run on the outside of the structure. A new class 60 leaves Lackenthorpe Works with a heavily loaded train of BAA coil wagons. Jez
  19. Hi all A little more progress on the road bridge that crosses the main line and the line that access the works reception sidings. Started to ballast the main line around the bridge area but will leave the rest because it's raised and runs along the front risking damage whilst working on other areas of the layout. A red stripe refurbished 37 with empty coil wagons trundles over the crossing, passing by the works signal box that controls the works reception sidings. Jez
  20. Hi all A small bit of progress.... adding some minor detailing, fencing and a crossing light for the access road that will be a one way system. The 08 shuttling a couple of OCAs with steel slabs around the works. Jez
