  1. Hi Graham Looking good, coming on nicely.....like the Royal Mail artic. Jez
  2. Hi all A start on the cooling tower.....bit of grime added with the use of weathering powders. Will build up the layers to make the cement seams less visible and cover up the grey. Jez
  3. Hi all Not much progress lately I've been concentrating on my US high desert layout that sits above Lackenthorpe. Managed to acquire a Farish cooling tower from their power station set for a bargain price of £34, half RRP price!!!. It's half relief so will sit along the rear of the layout. Scunthorpe, Port Talbot and Ravenscraig (before it was demolished) have different size cooling towers, it is on the small size as cooling towers go but it will not be out of place. The model itself could be better, with the concrete blocks on the large side and the cement seams are on the thick side also, but with some grime to cover up these minor issues it will look the part. Overall I'm very happy with it's appearance and they've got the shape spot on. Here it is in the box and also placed roughly around the area next to the Coke ovens. Also a photo of the shed with the two layouts one sitting above the other, lighting as been moved about so the works layout has lost out at the moment. Jez.
  4. Hi Graham Looking good, great attention to detail coming on nicely. Jez
  5. Looks really good Graham, the tunnels look the part! Jez
  6. Hi all A bit of progress on the coal handling/storage area, added another conveyor that wiil allow coal to go into the coke ovens or bunker from the storage area fed by loading shoval or dump truck. Tried to get the concrete area around the handling/storage that work stained coal dust look, requires a bit more work. Added some drain pipes and an access platform to the maintenance depot roof. cheers .......Jez
  7. Hi Graham....thanks They came from ebay about five years ago, they are made in China by Universal hobbies. Not seen them for a while, they are well detailed and look the part when worked stained. Jez
  8. Hi all A bit of progress on the depot surroundings, added two doors to the main depot building. The heavy maintenance building will get some finishing touches, its looking a bit tatty. Next will get the airbrush out and try and get the oil stained grimmy look and add some CR signals floodlights. Also a photo of some of the plant for the works coal handling/storage area that will work on the stockpiles. Jez.
  9. Hi all A bit of progress with the coal handling/storage area of the works. Wanted a stacker that distributes the coal to be stockpiled and pushed into heaps by bulldozer, this is my attempt at a stacker fed by a conveyor with coal stockpiles. Quite happy with the look needs more grime though.....this end of the layout is starting to come together need to get on with ballasting and weathering the track. Jez
  10. Hi Graham Great use of the space you have available, coming along nicely. Jez
  11. Hi Neil Like the 37s.....the road bridge at an angle looks the part. Jez
  12. Hi all Over the past few days i have been working on the scenery around the depot, mainly focusing on the sevicing shed area by adding an embankment along the edge of the layout along with a storage tank, portacabin and concrete hardstandings. The area in between the track is coverd in finally sieved earth from the garden, will add ballast and weather along with the track and try to achieve the look of busy worked stained MPD. Also added embankment either side of the main line that divides the works area and depot, once the ballast and weathering is done it should look a lot better. cheers Jez
  13. Hi all A bit of landscaping today. ... the first bit of greenry on the rebuild, the area behind the depot. Covered the lollipop sticks with a grass matt to form an embankment and have tried to get the overgrown look ,scratch built a simple brick road brige that passes over the loop that gives access to the fiddle yard. Had a go at the concrete area for the servicing shed, used strips of card then coverd them with micro mesh that had the right greyish shade. To get the look that there is a pit inside the building (from a distance), i removed the sleepers and added a stirp of white card that gives the image of a sunken pit for the examining of locos. cheers Jez
  14. Hi all A bit more progress..... hiding the south loop that runs behind the depot. Have used curved hardboard which sits above the track, which will have a grass embankment running down (on top of lollipop sticks) and round the back of the depot, a small road bridge with a tight turn will hide the track access leading to the fddle yard. cheers Jez.
  15. Hi Graham The track weathering and ballast looks great, I find depot surroundings difficult to get to look right, some can be overgrown whilst some are oil stained ballast and barren. Jez
  16. Hi Graham That Scania looks great, layout coming on nicely. Jez
  17. Hi Simon Looking good .... just what N is all about long protypical trains. Jez
  18. Hi all A bit of progress on the works reception sidings....one set from the works building access (for the loading of finished product slabs, coil, plate), after the cross over which split into three through sidings which then run into two longer through lines which link onto the works access for the main line. Could have had more sidings but kept it to fewer longer through spurs for sorting finished product and returning empties, able to form longer length trains and accomodate doubling heading locos. Some more shots of the Depot also. Cheers. Jez
  19. Hi Graham Coming on nicely . Jez
  20. Hi All Just finished laying the track for the MPD, decided to go with the three road pitched maintenance/repair building and the Farish two lane for service/refueling. Not keen of having a through road building which is a dead end not prototypical, but will use siding ends for stabling snowplough or stores van along with locos. Track still not dry but placed some motive power just to see how it may look at a weekend..... plenty of TYPE 5s!!! A lot more work required to get to my liking. Thanks for looking. Jez
  21. Hi All A bit more progreess.....Have connected the works to the main line, a single track which crosses over the the access to the works buildings for loading of finished steel products accessed from the reception sidings. In the prosess of laying track to form the two sets of reception sidings and the depot area.....near completion will post some photos later. Cheers Jez
  22. Thanks Graham.....yes will have double track running over it. Will have two ovals connecting the works and depot on one side of the shed and passing through the fiddle yard and door section on the other. Jez
  23. Hi all A bit more progress. Got a complete full loop (single at the moment) with the door section lined up and wired in, also got the controller fixed under the fiddle yard so able to run test trains. Always wanted a pair of 20s and managed to pick up a second new weathered one at Modlrail Scotand from DPS stand for £70. Ran it in on the loop with my first one, they look good on 25 MGRs. More testing and will get more track laid with some reception sidings for the works. Cheers.......Jez
  24. Looking good Matt .....great attention to detail and look forward to the lathe building. Keep up the good work Jez
