  1. A worthwhile investment Ben, a decent iron make things much easier. The van is coming along nicely and despite your throwaway comment looks quite square. Michael
  2. Looking good Ben. I like the choice for a first step into an etched coaching stock model - no tumblehome (sorry Southernboy) but a fair number of fiddly bits to add. Nick and Richard are both correct about the usefulness of small wooden clamps, the link Richard provided showing a useful item indeed: and remember, the working end of the clothes peg can be carved to suit requirements. Despite the teasing of Sithlord it appears Ben remains a dedicated N modeller - I sent some teaser 2mm bits and Ben promptly starts building a large N layout! Or at least publicising same.
  3. Hello Pete Unfortunate but understandable. I hope you will continue to share the layouts development with us. Michael
  4. Good job Bryn. I've made jigs for the same purpose years ago but used thick styrene (broken ruler), the result reminiscent of the Kadee/Microtrains coupler gauge. Very useful tools, indeed essential, regardless of appearance or construction.
  5. Evening Missy (well it is here) Like others may I express my admiration for your control panel and the wiring. Considering your expressed dislike of electrical wiring you produce a remarkably professional looking result. It's one of the delights of the internet and forums like this that we can see such work that would otherwise be hidden. Regards Michael
  6. Looks neat and crisp, add ballast and weathering and should look excellent. Instead of using a knife to cut the excess plastic have you considered using the photo etched sawblades that attach to a scalpel handle? I've not tried this but may be a better idea. Regards Michael
  7. Good to see this blog Bryn: I agree with Pete this is a nice recap, though I see a few new photos... Michael
  8. Aha! Found you at last! I'm glad to find your enthusiasm undiminished. The working tilly lamps are delightful and I'm fascinated by the signal mechanism. Unfortunately I'm poor at extrapolating function from appearance so I'm hopeful an article will appear in a future 2mm Magazine. Michael (now stalking...err...tracking)
  9. Hello Rob That's a magnificently ungainly looking beast. I'd just found this on the old site before all went horribly quiet.. I look forward to the result out of the paintshop. One question, is this an ex-NER wagon? If it is I might be able to justify one (fingers crossed). Regards Michael
