  1. True @woodenhead, although there's not going to be a huge amount of operating potential in two sidings worth of scrap yard! Thanks also for the google 3D view, basically it's all changed except the viaduct! Ralf
  2. Wow thank you, where was the image? Looks a bit like Britain from Above but I didn't find it when I looked! Looks hard to model the whole lot beyond the viaduct as the goods shed will be one heck of a view blocker! Many thanks Ralf
  3. Website looks good and ordering process seems to work! Fabulous stuff Cheers Ralf
  4. Thanks, yes and no... I’m going to leave this as project 2 in a (likely) Tim Horn photobox baseboard that’s fairly square - eg 3ft x 2ft with a sector plate fiddle yard. Whereas project 1 in the SMS BB017 will be probably quayside and hopefully perhaps scrap inspired, so there’ll be lots of learn that I can transfer to using for when I do Wellington Road justice which I cannot do in a shallow baseboard. Another stumbling block is the HMRS cannot currently access the photographs to scan due to COVID-19. So it’ll happen (and I’m useless at actually doing anything) but I’m quite determined so all I need to do is sort out a shelf-esque scrapyard layout for now then Wellington Road should be easier to actually realise! Ralf
  5. Here we after some very rough Templotting... Please excuse it's rough and the printouts stuck together in a hurry. Is it starting to look vaguely workable or am I kidding myself? Thanks Ralf
  6. Thanks @Harlequin and @DavidCBroad, after looking at the thread below I can reproduce these very short industrial turnouts in OO-SF with a total length of less than 150mm... https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/117333-templot-how-to-build-the-shortest-turnout/ I shall go and swear in Templot and see how I get on although life is due to get in the way by 13:00 so I imagine it'll be this evening before I'm back with any results... Cheers Ralf
  7. Hi All, Planning on using my Scale Model Scenery Micro Baseboard (BB017) with gives a scenic area of 1102mm x 221mm (43" x 9") - 'borrowing' the track plan from the superb Arun Quay by Gordon and Maggie Gravett. So having photographed the track plan from MRJ 258 (although I notice now it's also featured in a recent MR) I've flipped it round, squeezed the depth a smidge and using PECO Code 75 4 x Y Points and a Single Slip here's the very rough results.... I've been tempted and considered using Templot and hand building track but not sure I'd actually shoehorn any better - especially as I've only ever dabbled a tiny bit in Templot and as a beginner it's a large hurdle to jump into hand building track! The Janus and 16 ton wagons are there to give a better idea of size, in reality I doubt I'll ever use a Janus but things of a similar size perhaps. I need to study some videos of which there's a few on YouTube to establish how long the head shunts are on Arun Quay but currently going with 1 loco + 1 wagon or 2-3 wagons without a loco. You'll notice the two plans are actually opposite ways round, I'm undecided which way to go with, I quite fancy the quay on the front but it'd make the back scene easier if it was the other way... Feedback and thoughts much appreciated? Many thanks Ralf
  8. Oooooh having just received MRJ 258 I'm very impressed and yes it'd scale to 1200mm x 280mm so I'm sure with some Templot-ing I will be able to squeeze it in, and probably give it an E Anglian flavour.... Many thanks Ralf
  9. That's right John. Thanks to the nice people at Roxey Mouldings for that! It's part of the door etch! Ok I shall put the framing on the inside (blank) side of the door as I'll model this door closed I think. Thanks all Ralf
  10. Yes, but is the inside the planked or plain side? - The side you cannot see in my picture is plain / flat / not etched... Ralf
  11. Hi Folks, Currently building some sheds - 2 from Roxey Mouldings (as my first brass kits) and some wooden ScaleModelScenery ones (see pics) Any how the question the Roxey Instructions say "Remove Door from fret and fold the framing onto the back of the door" - but which side is the back? My guess is the framing wants to be on the inside, if the door is modelled closed I'd be inclined to put the planked side outmost, on the other hand if (as shown here https://www.world-of-railways.co.uk/techniques/how-to-build-your-first-etched-brass-kit/ ) model the door open I'd use the planked side to represent the inside of the door as the outside will be almost invisible... Thoughts please folks? Framing on the planked or plain side of the door? Ralf
  12. Thanks Dave, that’s a fabulous and philosophical compromise! I love it.... If you (as someone’s work I admire) say it’s ok I reckon that’s ok for me too! Yes I feel a PM to Giles coming on to save using the end of a ball point pen and doing 1 stone at a time... I see he does 7mm / ft etched versions... Many thanks for your insightful response! Ralf
  13. Which sadly eBay isn’t awash with copies of, fancy a look myself! Ralf
  14. Couple of questions Dave, sorry if I've missed the answers above. What is the orange thing shown above for embossing the setts? I know you mentioned loading / unloading the wagons much earlier in the thread, what's the current plan / thinking? Asking as as I seem to have found myself in what strikes me as a rather similar situation to yours planning on modelling a ex Goods Yard now turned scrap yard based on Wellington Street Goods Yard, Stockport... Prototype discussion here: Cheers Ralf
  15. Fantastic thanks Jonathon, well roll on Easter weekend for the online shop... Cheers Ralf
  16. Not that I'm the OP but the same building in brick would be fab... Although I arrived here to order a stone one but see I'll need to wait a bit - brick preferably but tbh I want one either way! Keep up the good work! Ralf
  17. Thanks Simon, for the link and information all round... Off to play with Templot! I suspect there'll be a model goods depot or scrap yard coming to life over the coming months / years based on Wellington Rd. Thanks Ralf
  18. Thanks @65179 I shall need to mull over this, and study what I can lay my hands on photo-wise which is so far limited. Do you have any idea when Wellington Road Good Station building was demolished? Did it pass into the hands of the scrap men? Further to my edit above, I realise the Arnie Furniss photographs above (25 and the 40) are both in Georges Road Sidings with the embankment and viaduct behind. Has anyone got any info / pics on what lay on the other side? Maps can only help so much... Thanks Ralf
  19. Thanks Simon, I hadn't no. As for Arnie Furniss thanks @nigb55009 and @65179 here's another belter: EDIT - Realised this is actually taken in George's Road Sidings, was thrown by the industrial in the shot, clearly the scrap man had chosen to park it on the other side of the viaduct in the day in question! But here in lies a bit of a problem as to the sites identity both officially and otherwise as already I have: Wellington Road Goods Depot (Barry Norman) Wellington Road Goods Station (HMRS) Georges Road Scrap Yard (Arnie Furniss - on Flickr, see above) Lowton Metals Ltd (IRS via @SP Steve) I'm guessing it was officially Wellington Road Goods but Arnie refers to it as Georges Road Scrap yard as it was simply a continuation of Georges Road Sidings which were the other side of the viaduct. With Lowton Metals being the Scrap Merchant who took over the site at some point in time. All info very welcome, I'm off to read the CLC thread... Ralf
  20. Thanks Rex, not sure that's the building but a local LNWR one? Unless I'm looking at the wrong photos? Thanks Ralf
  21. Thanks David, went shopping for a back issue of MRJ 258 and ended up spending £72 at Book Law - 3 books also slipped into my basket that I was after anyway! Ralf
  22. Hi Folks, A sudden interest in Wellington Road Goods Depot, Stockport and actually even more so in the later Scrapyard has been energised by the thread below. After any info and pics of the yard and subsequent scrapyard. The yard originally seems to be an extension of Georges Road Sidings. See NLS map here: https://maps.nls.uk/view/101104214 - zoom in, extreme right hand side, approx 1/2 way up... Any pointers for information would be very much appreciated especially of it's latter days... Many thanks Ralf ps I see HMRS have two images available of "Wellington Road Goods Station & Tunnel" and "Wellington Road Goods Station" from 1970 which I shall go and purchase copies of...
  23. It is indeed, have finally found it on NLS maps too! Didn't help the plan above has been reversed to the other side of the viaduct nor that it's been gone a long while by the looks of it. Off to find some prototype information... Especially keen on the scrapyard years if anyone has any pointers! Indeed where better to look than the prototype questions corner of RMWeb - link for future referance - https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/152791-wellington-road-goods-depot-stockport-and-scrap-yard/ Ta Ralf
  24. Hi all, Have gone and purchased a Scale Model Scenery BB017 Baseboard which will measure 1102 x 221 (https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/bb017-micro-layout-baseboard-in-a-box-1-1102-x-250-x-221mm-7891-p.asp) and I'm looking for something that's industrial to model (in OO) in the space that looks vaguely realistic / plausible... There'll be a fiddle stick on the end too so the layout can fill the baseboard without needing an on scene head shunt... Not fussed particularly what the industry is, operational interest is important, so tempted with 3-2-2 Inglenook BUT can't dream up and ideas where it'd look like it might be a real location without resorting to hallucinogens... Has anyone any thoughts on? Really stuck for inspiration and terrible at decisions! Thanks Ralf
  25. Hi Folks, I'm currently building (finishing off now) a 4mm:1ft Cambrian Starfish wagon and I'm not happy with my efforts turning the flat chunky door spring supplied into anything vaguely like those on the prototype (which involves 2 sharp bends) - https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/brstarfish/e2f883bcb So what are the other options? I've seen Wizard models do White Metal ones, and Masokits do Etched ones, or other people just use brass strip... Any thoughts and pics of people door bangers would be much appreciated! Thanks Ralf
