  1. No probs, thanks for letting me know anyhow. Ralf
  2. Not a lot of progress but have tidied the work bench and fitted all the etches to the loco which was a bit of a nightmare involving superglue and not enough test fitting / checking before gluing...
  3. Hi Stu, Could you pop me down for the Oakwood Press Nidd Valley book? Let me know the postage and I'll sort it out. Thanks Ralf
  4. So a hour or so playing with some paints, dry pigments and a brush here is where we are now... It seems the railway is the edge of the hardstanding or at least the used cleanish bit, the other side of the railway seems to be a muddy mire... Ralf Current state of play... Derailed wagon likely to be the centre of attention... The materials harmed / used today by very novice hand... These guys seem to want to be the cast of the cameo admiring the derailed wagon...
  5. £4 spent and book ordered! Tempted with a canal scene having admired this little layout. Have also purchased all Vols 2, 3 & 4 on the Forest of Dean and spending a lot of time drooling at them! Then again compressing Wirksworth is tempting too!! Ooohh decisions decisions... Ralf
  6. Very impressive and swift work! Keep it up...
  7. A quick splodge of DAS and folded the workshop door. Very slowly taking shape, have some Modelu figures I need to find and somehow breathe some scene like life into it... Off to read up an idiots guide to acrylic paints as I have everything I believe I need just need to take the first steps!
  8. I may well try tomorrow... Track glued with droppers just in case I want them, then weighted with all the 9mm stock I could lay my hands on. The baseboard and card was primed in the cold windiness of last night. The body has had it's second coat of paint, as you can see the cab roof has been glued back on - yes I was using brute force to try and fit it even though Narrow Planet expressly mentions care and brittle-ness... Also a Meridian Models Penrhyn Quarry Railway coal wagon leapt out of the drawer so it got built too! Next time I'll attempt to create folding doors and fix down the workshop....
  9. Wow!! I'm very impressed... Have only tried their free coal office and with fibrous grey-board it was tough going, did you use proper card? Thanks Ralf
  10. Fantastic Andy, no idea why I hadn't found that! Mainly I think as was fairly sure they didn't sell them on their own - so didn't look too hard! Thanks Ralf
  11. I'll bet! I've seen Ruston (Dave) boiled and oven(?) dried his sand in his limestone quarry, so it needn't be dry at the moment sand. Ta Ralf
  12. Thanks Dickon, that's a good idea esp as I cannot get long wheelbase vehicles in / out of the current layout... If it'd been a print-at-home kit I think I'd have re-done the doors as you suggest but it's not it was a Scale Model Scenery laser cut card kit (which I loved building compared to the Scalescene ones. Link to the kit: https://www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk/kx026-oo-the-old-workshop-oo4mm176-667-p.asp Now there's an idea... If add electricity and extend the scene - which I'm tempted with I shall certainly look at one of them... So a brief update: The cardboard hardstanding ready to glue down and prime. The interior of the shed admittedly a bit hacked where I've chopped it up but it's a lovely kit, wish I'd built it with this diorama in mind though not as a stand alone! Final news it's finally not raining so been outside and tried to prime the baseboard and infill, well it's blooming dark and windy. It didn't go well, have left it to dry and decided I need a spray booth even if just for aerosols for priming for the time being... Thanks Ralf
  13. Hi All, Had been loving using Roket Plastic Glue (https://deluxematerials.co.uk/products/roket-plastic-glue) with it's non-clog tip which was very magical and super handy, neat and accurate until I managed to clog the tip. Having contacted Deluxe it seems I must have used it on the wrong bottle of glue and hence it's now clogged. Anyone know where I can buy spares tips of an similar design? Did ask Deluxe but no answer to "can I buy spare tips" was forthcoming. I know they sell similar (identical?) tips with various bottles and syringes but I just want the pink bit and the needle bit - and probably more spares for when I mess it up again! Thanks Ralf ps Did order a spare bottle from a large online retailer but only realised ages later the tip wasn't included so didn't go back to them, if I don't notice I've only got half a parcel for weeks I don't feel that's their fault!
  14. Drat! Pipped to the post, on that. Can you pop me down for the Industrial locomotives, Hall? If by Friday afternoon no-one has bagged the M&GN book by Digby I’d fancy that too but realise you said 1 lot per person but would like to save it from the charity shop. thanks Ralf
  15. Hi All, Have been talking about and meaning to get into actual modelling rather than dreaming about it and reading how to do it... So in an effort to get something done I'm going to attempt a an entry for round 4 of the 2019 Cakebox. As I already have some card kit huts, a Scale Model Scenery 8" board and a Narrow Planet loco kit they'll hopefully be transformed into a industrial railway workshop, inspired by my visits to Bolton Fell Peat Moss near Carlisle. See picture below (not my photo it's a Flickr link) As you can see I quickly discovered the shed was way to deep so have brutally hacked at it with a knife and have started in-lay for the track, I think another layer of card and some DAS and it'll be adequately inlaid into the concrete yard... The bullrushes are an aspiration if I manage to keep on target there'll be a marshy bloggy brown area front left in which they may lurk... All feedback, thoughts, help, guidance very much encouraged it's my first foray into anything vaguely scenic ever! The workbench and the ingredients for my cakebox... The workshop / shed is far too deep... It was too deep! Hacked at it with a saw and it's looking more promising... Hacking some card away to 'plant' the railway into the concrete hard standing... Vaguely the look / kinda thing I'm after...
  16. Where can we read about your progress? Looking at getting started myself soon (so I've been saying for a long time!) Ralf
  17. Well... I suppose it's a trip to my parents loft to find my copy for 'research' purposes clearly... Whilst I'm skeptical it'll be much help I suppose actually it could be quite insightful... Loved the video of Newbridge, somehow I need to balance operational interest / shunting potential with it being small and simple... Ralf
  18. Ah ha, I see, thanks for the explanation! Thanks Gordon, I have ordered a couple of these to study! Hmmm, think I was after more operating potential than that lol! I'll be over to inspect Garmondsway soon! I'm only really wanted to it be conceivable that such an operation continued into 70s an excuse for a eclectic mixed steam / diesel roster. Weather the prototype was strictly open or the back story isn't very water tight doesn't concern me greatly... Many thanks all... Ralf
  19. Thanks Jack, could you elaborate how that worked? Surely the empty or loaded wagons went somewhere / re-appeared from somewhere? Also it's longer than I was planning, how long were the rakes of wagons used? Have I seen the layout in CM at some stage in the fairly recent past? Will need to have a dig but hopefully once I know if I'm barking up entirely the wrong tree... Thanks Ralf
  20. Hi all, On the hunt for some (an?) early IRS Industrial Locomotives EL books, not sure on which issues are which years but early ones, say 6EL at the latest... Anyone got any they don't want or know someone who has? Thanks Ralf
  21. Hi all, Again, I'm finally trying to nail down my 1970-ish industrial shunting plank to an industry and track plan, after bewilderment at the astonishing White Peak Limestone & Tarmacadam (see link below), also spotted Iain Rice (a hero of mine) has a Wee Puggie in his Cameo book - an Argyllshire quarry (buy / look at the book), thirdly and slightly curve ball is my admiration of Canute Quay (see link below) which isn't remotely Quarry based but in such a small space I'm sure the track plan could be borrowed / amended to suit a quarry scenario... Any thoughts on a 4"x1" --> 6"x2" 1970ish quarry much appreciated, looking to use my enormous fleet of RTR industrials incl USA Tank, Janus, Ruston 48DS, Hattons ABs, J94s and much more.... Variety of wagons and motive power important, also vitally after some enthralling shunting action - for some reason, if it's a contrived excuse to use the inglenook qualities of a plan which might not be quite prototypical, but at least I can run prototypically or play inglenooks... Some thoughts / directions would be much appreciated as I'm keen and feel ready to actually bash on and do some actual modelling... (Started my first cakebox earlier, will start a thread tomorrow!) Thanks Frustrated of Derby (Ralf)
  22. Well I hope they listen to Dave's comment about short radius bullhead points too... Ralf
  23. Thanks for info on these and the Pope and Karau's books, I see they seem to be desirable volumes, will keep my eyes open on popular internet auction sites I suppose... Ralf
  24. Stop it! I'm currently not interested into venturing into the 7mm world! Thanks but I think they only muddy the water!!! Has anyone any photos / links / plans for Canal Coal Drops??? But having asked ½ of me is saying something more achievable would be a better beginners project! Thanks Ralf
  25. Anything else in the pipeline for exhibitions?
