The tipper wagons appear to be loaded with coal rather than the usual cargo of muck. Not sure how Betteshanger operated but our local collieries had "stockyards" where surplus production could be stored. In latter years these were well organised concreted aprons often with flood

They are full of spoil, If you go into Fowlmead country park (the old spoil tip) and mooch around in of the mounds it looks like coal but doesn't burn very well. I didn't try it honestly guv.

At these rates, it's not long before a manufacturer makes a cheap knock-off copy.

Hornby did make a cheap version for the older B12 loco, available as a spare for a long time,14115199_B12Motor.jpg.c410076518c21a0eb370c02584e6f010.jpg actually runs rather well.

i must be the only one who actually likes sitting in the dark quiet a lot with all my little layout lights shining, its a lot easier to sort a bright white light than replacing no light at all

Why don't they make them more realistic in the first place.

Hornby have clarified the concave appearance of the buffers. They noted this feature on prototype coaches in period photographs and decided to replicate this in light of the photographic evidence.

I’ve seen one of the pictures (a LBSCR coach) and they are definitely concave though as I don’t know who owns the copyright in the picture I cannot share it here.

I've seen them before but seem to remember only one diagonally at each end, so the domed buffer fitted into it.

Ok, Triang 1961 Cataloge (if memory serves).

Just realised I forgot the B12.

And the Blue Pullman, Rocket & Dean single

Has it. though?  Despite the pandemic, Chinese production is back on track and not far off the original quoted delivery times,

I don't think production is the problem, it is shipping, at the moment there is a shortage of containers to ship from China. One of my suppliers doesn't expect to be able to ship till February.

If Hornby are looking for a quick win, whilst using existing bits and revisiting old Margate products, then a Maunsell L1 might be an answer. A medium sized loco, they served on the Kent coast and Eastleigh, nice contrast to other Eastern division models etc. An L1 with a rake of Bachmann Birdcages would be rather spiffing.

Have a safe Christmas and a better 2021

The mould was modified to make an LMS 4P

I'm sorry Stuart, but that doesn't ring true, emulsion is a much more recent inventions than 1890's.  I think if somebody is trying to claim that is a contemporary account, they are pulling the wool over our eyes.

Edited in light of new info

Whitewash is an emulsion paint and that is nowhere near a recent invention.

Wasn't the generic 0-6-0 chassis made DCC ready a long time ago?

Yes, the 2732 pannier tank was available with DCC fitted.

I'd be very interested to learn how Hornby arrived at the livery for this most recent Peckett.

I've handled the print of this at the NRM while looking for a photo of a NG prototype, the darker upper cab side honestly just looks like a re-touched photo and there's no examples from the colour photography world showing that Peckett's had different shades of green on their locos at the same time.

    Paul A.

Look totally different colour and lining style to me, as though the cab top has been replaced from another loco.

With Hornby going through their back catalogue Pacific Loco's and retooling them over the last few years, I think we'll see either the Modified (Rebuilt) Merchant Navy or Gresley A1/A3 being announced as a retool next month.

I keep hoping they will do the Maunsell L1 from their back catalogue.

I do know that a lot of folk were buying plastic kits around the time when lockdown was announced but of course in sales value many of them are well behind model railway prices.

Yes my local newsagent stocks a selection of Airfix kits, always been steady sellers but after lockdown she hasn't been able to keep up with demand.
