there is a very popular myth amongst HGV /psv drivers that bridges are 1 or 2 inches higher than what is posted and they will fit through
There often can be, as bridges are marked in 3 inch increments slightly more if it is metric 0.1m.

Church path leads into the Benzol yard. The row of houses between the school and Church path have been demolished and is now Hallowfield Way which leads into where Benzol used to be.

I have quite a few of those maps, though not the ones covering that area, One of our club members lives in Tooting and knows the Mitcham area well. He may well know the location mentioned above.
All the best
Ray
It is on Britain from above, https://britainfromabove.org.uk/en/image/EPW055274

Don't forget that most American fire brigades outside of major conurbations are volunteer brigades.
They are in the UK, and still better those cloppers.

Could you advise precisely where the Benzol depot was in Mitcham ?
Many thanks
Ray
It was at the end of what is now Hallowfield Way. Became a demolition/skip hire yard in the 80s not sure what the site is now.

HAP handrails are full length and different to EPB ?
at least on the pictures i’m looking at.
The class 205 has similar handrails, the trailer 1/2 of a 205 is the same as the trailer 1/2 of a HAP (The EPB brake being the other).
not sure what the issue is ?
I think he means the thickness of them not the length, they shouldn't look a pair of exhausts.

From my copy of locomotive illustrated, repainted blue at Crew works 1966 on a classified overhaul.

I assume you know that it definitely did get painted into blue.
According to the BR Database, the last works visit was 1963.
Was repainting done outside of a works visit?
There are plenty of pictures of it in blue.

Apologies for the vagueness of the question; I really like these and would like to pick up a few, does anyone more knowledgeable than I know if any of these definitely wouldn't have been seen on the Southern in 1947ish?
Mobil certainly not, that is a mid fifties livery.

My Benzol & By Products arrived today. I'm very impressed with the detail apart from the droopy couplings although they don't seem to affect coupling up. Just need to wait for the BP version and hope they do a Berry Wiggins from the southern oil traffic.
And one with big brother from Mainline.

I think Triang made a pretty good fist of getting them right all those years ago.

Next to it.
In the pictures above, you can see the passenger line climbing towards Dove Holes and on to Stockport, then the "new" sidings - actually an extension of what was already there, then a large space - this was the site of the steam shed. There were always half a dozen sidings between the shed and the Stockport line - colloquially known as Donaghue or Doneroo
Thanks, I get jist of it now.
-
Are these new sidings where the steam shed used to be?

Hattons have all versions listed as sold out on pre-order. May be some still available out there somewhere.
Hornby still have them all for pre order with free postage.

How dis you manage to squeeze an X04 in there?
Quite easily, that was what Wills recommended, it sits at a much shallower angle than normal.

Mine is the Wills version. Only on apprentice money then I used the cast chassis and fitted a spare XO4 motor. Always runs well and can out perform anything the prototype could do.

I Who is responsible for the height restriction sign? Is it National Rail or the local road authority?
The road authority.

Have I missed something? How does anyone know that the truck is 4.0 metres tall?
Perhaps the sign in imperial should read 13 ft 3in, but no more.
Because that is the normal Euro truck max height.
It shouldn't be marked 13ft 3in because the bridge is only 13ft/3.9mtr not the 4.1mtr what the sign says.

I think it was more the tooling was getting worn out, particularly the roof tool, certainly the last models had lost the crispness of the originals.
