they might be wanting to see what the uptake is first on the non-sound models to gauge demand. I cant think of any of the Bachmann first release batch of models from new tooling that has been fitted with sound at the factory. That tends to come later

The new tooling class 40 did, with the disc head code version only available with sound.

Motorways in the UK are not required to be fenced, in law, unlike railways. Any fencing is down to the adjacent landowner and as such we can see anything from post and wire through to acoustic barriers if required by the local authority.

Motorways are fenced for the same reason as railways to stop Larry lamb and any livestock wandering onto the carriageway and if they are the same as ours on the M5 are maintained by the Highways agency.

The feint line 2/3 up the boiler would be a mould split line. Either where the slides or two haves meet or showing the edge of a insert for fitting different variations into the same tooling base. Unavoidable really

I think they are referring split line under the boiler between the diecast lower and plastic upper sections.

Diesel hydraulics are probably even more awkward for sound reproduction than diesel-electrics because of the relationship between engine noise and the workings of the transmission.  So unless there is some very sophisticated sound mixing, which might not necessarily work in conjunction with some controllers because of the dependency on how the loco is driven, it can be difficult to catch the full sounds from anything other than a moving loco which has a load behind it and is subject to gear changes.

So what happens on a 20 MPH run? Would it change out of 1st gear or stick in 1st and burn more fuel?

I also seem to remember that Hatton's ended up with loads of HD, including the remaining stock of HD Co-Bo diesels. It was about a decade before they disappeared from their regular advert in Railway Modeller..

I bought one in 1984 and they were still advertised for a year or so afterwards.

  6. Passing the Hornby visitor centre I popped in for lunch and made an unplanned purchase of 32655. Actually, quite a nice model captures the look well, buffers excepted although they do represent being recessed a bit just not fully. A considerable improvement over the ex Dapol model which looks much more chunky in comparison. Runs beautifully, quiet and smooth at all speeds with a realistic top speed and responds well to the controller right down to a very slow crawl.

Here she is with the older versions for comparison.

Not that 08; that's a perfectly acceptable representation of the standard BR 350hp shunting engine as built from 1954 onwards.  I mean the 'previous incarnation', which is no longer in the catalogue but still, after some 60 years,

Not quite, the railroad 08 body is not the same as the old Triang version it was retooled with a different cab and separate ladders. The Triang version was modified for the Thomas range.
