  1. Many years ago I visited when they were undertaking a mass basking shark/dolphin/whale/sea spotting. This was a time when basing shark visitations were more common than now. They said they had seen nowt.
  2. Athelstan vowed to build a church at St Buryan if he evicted the vikings. He did and the remains of his church are incorporated into the north east of the existing building. And here's some of the story https://classic-sailing.com/article/the-isles-of-scilly-archipelago/#:~:text=In the mid-12th century,in Syllingar and plundered it.”
  3. Take it you're in the lookout on the Cape? Kenidjack Castle is where I met, by chance, in 1999, Willie Alford, the traction engine owner of Truthwall who was walking his Jack Russell. He told me the story of the loss of sand in Porth Ledden due to failed tin ore extraction in the 1920s. Solved a lot of the mystery as that bay is where both Tristram escaped to Ireland and Athelstan launched his assault on the Vikings on the Isles of Scilly, and I couldn't;y see how on those rocks you'd be able to land boats.
  4. For people visiting Japan, is this the style of hotel you stay in?

  6. I've said that this is it - we've been down this route before, with me getting more vociferous each year that they hadn't recruited anyone suitable The last three years we've tried, but they all left (or maybe were pushed) after a few months. At the moment I'm not getting done the things I want to do.

  12. Brtight and sunny - at least that's what woke me up. And the and appears to have dropped. However my enjoyment of it will be visual as I'm completing admin stuff ... and, unusually for me, getting stuff ready for teaching later in the term. Fortunately it's all written and only needs updating for dates and some sample data as I use current up to date data when I can. in teaching I really don't see the point of using numerically massaged examples and then expect students to tackle real world problems - subtleties are easier to recognise when presented early. I dod have one colleague some time ago who used examples of 0% return on savings, which gave students a really false picture, although mathematically correct it just didn't reflect the real world and them at all.
  13. That p155es me off as well. Apple pages doesn't.
