Thanks very much for the information. Sadly when I went to Workington about the job in 1974 I didn't visit the harbour, and when I went back much much later the harbour was almost unrecognisable, so I was hoping that Dad's captions were all correct. David

Back in August 1975 Mum and Dad decided to have a short holiday on the Cumbrian Coast. One of the places they visited was Whitehaven harbour. In 1974 I'd been offered a job in Whitehaven and had turned it down, taking a more highly paid job in Essex. I sometimes wonder what would have happened to my career if I'd moved to Whitehaven instead. Some 20 years later I was asked if I'd move to a job there and again declined it, choosing to stay in Northumberland. Blyth Power station and West Blyth staithes and sidings for this afternoon. We are at the end of the Blyth and Tyne Railway to Cambois and North Blyth on the Northumberland coast. Both locations were on the north side of the River Blyth at Cambois. The staithes have now been cut down to just above the water and are sometimes used as moorings.
