  3. I think there may be some more, but I haven't come across them yet - both Dad and I only got there if either of us had a holiday in Scotland. David
  4. Scotland today. We are at Elvanfoo t Bodsbury level crossing on the WCML north of Beattock Summit today. There was an "open it yourself" crossing there at the time, with very clear instructions on how to use it. If you click on the second photo to enlarge it you will be able to read the instructions. This was at the time when pairs of Class 50s were working on the line. 8. There was indeed. 9F 92220 Evening Star. I have photos of the specials as well as a lot more of Hexham taken at the time. One day they will appear here. David
  9. I went late this morning and was able to park at the venue. A very enjoyable exhibition with good layouts, I think I saw trains move on all of them. I managed to find things to buy, everything on my shopping list and a bit more. A big "Well done" to the organisers from me. David
  10. A few photos taken around Hexham goods yard in 1984 and 1985. The March 1985 photos were taken during a BR event with a display of locos to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the line from Blaydon to Hexham. 12. A little bit later than usual as Mum's stair lift, which she ordered on Wednesday, was installed this afternoon and I was needed to "supervise" for her. We start today with a view looking west to the old GNR/LNWR station at Nottingham London Road and then travel along the Midland line towards Loughborough. 13. I can remember the bridge in the late 1950s when we sometimes went that way in my grandparents' car. Even then there could be queues - of course then the bridge had only the single carriageway as the railway was still open. Sadly we never stopped there to look at the trains.
  14. I don't have any details of it, but it was heading south towards the Gotthard so I think it was probably going to Italy. David
  15. A quick trip to Germany today to look at the Harzquerbahn again as it was in 1992. 18. Before I post today's photos thanks very much for the comments about the Ulgham Lane crossing photos. When I took those images the place was very open, since then a lot of tree (and hedge) growth has taken place severely restricting the views. It isn't all down to Network Rail, some of the field hedges are also too high to see over. I don't go there so often now, but views similar to that of the Class 40 are still possible. As for the skies - there are often lovely skies and light in Northumberland. Now for today's photos. A first look on this thread at the Tyne and Wear Metro today. As many of you know this runs from Newcastle to the coast via two routes, forming a loop, and also has lines to Newcastle Airport, South Shields and Sunderland. 22. Paul, Thanks very much for posting those, they are very helpful. I had to look up the location of Red Hill Junction on a map today, it was one of Dad's photos and I wasn't there. Flying Scotsman was at the head of one of Bill McAlpine's private charters, Dad knew him at the time so he and Mum were invited to take part. The Sharpness photo is interesting too, even though I live close to a harbour in the north east I am still surprised at how much things change over the years. Edited to correct yet another of my typos. David
  23. Generally good where I live. Mum (92) had an appointment with her GP at 9.10 on 14th July, a Friday morning. The GP decided an X ray was needed so we walked across the car park from the surgery into the hospital where after a 20 minute wait she was X rayed. She was back home before 10.30. Then on the following Monday morning, 17th July, her GP rang her about 9.20 to say the results of the X ray had come through and she needed to see Mum. She was given an appointment for 2.30 that afternoon. David
