My computer is ten+ years old. Takes a month of Sundays to start up. Won't let me look at My Pictures. Keeps giving me 'not responding' messages. Do I need a new one ?

  If its 10 years old it might not be compatible with a solid state hard disk. The connectors may be different

  Try starting it up from "Hibernate" mode. And if that doesn't work then beat the hell out of it. And if you do scrap it, either keep the hard drive or smash it up really well. So-called "secure" deletion is anything but...
