Er, it may be an optical illusion, but rather than than the rear of the loco being too low, the front of the tender looks too high, and appears to slope? I've not come accross this feedwater heater in the tender before, I presume it was another of Drummond's rather whacky ideas for his 4.6.0.s?

As everyone else has said, start small. Build a little branch-line terminus to fiddle-yard, work up your skills and methods on that. If that works out you can extend it. Having a large space can be a double-edged sword, DON'T be tempted to try and fill it in one go! That way can lead to disaster, as many folks have found. Starting small, you will find that in addition to your skills developing, so will your interests and priorities. AND you will find out the sort of timescale required for any particular size of layout. There are many first-time starter layouts on the go on RMweb, have a good read. Is there a club you can join near you? Can you get to a few exhibitions? Best of luck, and enjoy the journey! Dave.T

Put everything back together, refitted the backscenes etc, and took some shots from the front. Now see I've dented the corrugated copper with handling. Also it needs a bit of interior detail on the workshop back wall. Bought some bits ages ago, bench, shelves, pillar-drill etc. Can I find them????

Thats amazing! How did you apply those transfers? I've tried using them and find them impossible. The carrier film is so fine that it just disintegrated when I tried to slide them. Thanks, Dave.

No problem with 3-link couplings, I regularly operated 3-link fitted exhibition shunting layouts in my younger days. Where they can become a problem is with corridor coaches with masses of pipework. If they stay in fixed rakes, it can be better to have some other method between them, and a 3-link on each end. All my NG stock has a small tension-lock that requires manual uncoupling. I've never had a problem with it, but I did see a video of my layout a while ago, where my "big hand from the sky" had been edited out!

Thanks guys, here a comparison between old and new: The overscale functional hinges cause a large gap where the doors meet the frames. However they spend most of the time open so this isn't obvious.

Painted the doors and built up the groundwork. Looks ok, but I think I've overdone the weathering on the doors. I'll have another go at it.

Hi Mr.T Anderson's singing is sublime anywhere, but the music and songs on his albums can vary (I recently heard a "previously unreleased" Yes song, and it was awful!) Even he has made the occasional dud or misfire. My point was that Change We Must is one of the best of his albums that I've come accross. I've lost count of the number of albums he's made, and I certainly haven't heard them all. I've got all the early ones though.

They are Fabulous! Where did you find them? I will HAVE to check out more.

Just acquired this gem, Change We Must by Jon Anderson. Superb, surely one of his best?

I'm a fan of the Signatrak, my club has one. I really think it gives you the best of both worlds. My thoughts were that I didn't was to HAVE to drive my train from a touchscreen, nor did I want a handset that was a mass of buttons. The ACE, with it's touchscreen base and simple handset is perfect for me! Cheers, Dave.

Has anyone looked at Signatrak? Available from GLR Services The latest model is the ACE-3 It consists of a touchscreen base unit from which you can control everything, or you can allocate a loco to each of up-to FOUR handsets (one is supplied with the set) The Handset consists of a large speed knob and a direction switch, plus buttons for five functions. Oh, and a large red Emergency-Stop button... Best of both worlds. We've got one in our club, and its excellent. Cheers, Dave.

Many thanks Mr.Wolf. There's "ramshackle", and then there's "Bishops Castle".... Bridport is meant to look cheap, but not TOO cheap. The loco depot is based on the original shed layout on the Vale of Rheidol, but it's grown a few extensions to make it a bit more substantial.
