  1. I've just seen on the BBC website that Bobby Charlton has died: BBC Bobby Charlton Obituary
  2. That was done many years ago in 2mm finescale, by the late Denys Brownlee: Burnham on Sea and is now in new ownership: Shepton MRS
  3. How about a Travelling Post Office, that sets down and picks up mailbags in motion??? Or a livestock wagon carrying a giraffe whose head goes down when it approaches a bridge???
  4. That pretty much sums it up. Plus of course that the money "saved" (if any) might be spent on projects in northern marginal constituencies, at some unspecified time in the future. PS, I'm so angry I can hardly rationalise anything.
  5. I use Stinkyink as the HP cartridges for my printer cost a fortune. Can't see any difference, but I'm not doing lots of glossy photo-prints.
  6. But the whole point of HS2 is long distance high speed travel, separate from local transport. Putting stopping services on it would defeat the object. Wouldn't it?

  8. Tried out the Halfords matt and satin lacquers, and ... they look exactly the same! Close examination under a strong light shows a VERY slight, almost insignificant difference in the finish. I've used Halfords matt and satin black sprays quite a lot, and expected these to match. The finish of the lacquers is somewhere between the two. I will carry on using them as they spray very well, and the finish is actually very good. Thanks for the advice, I will be checking others out. Cheers, Dave.
  9. Many thanks for the advice folks. I picked up some Halfords cans yesterday, on my way back from the Culm Valley show. I will report back shortly.
  10. Stunning piece of work Ian, especially as on my screen, its the size on a 7mm model!
  11. Please can anyone recommend a decent spraycan varnish? Matt or satin? Some time ago someone mentioned Halfords, but all I can find there is gloss lacquer.
  12. Another poor quality film of the finished article running on the Group's Test-track (so called, because it will run on there, it will run anywhere!)
  13. I see this experience is very recent. Often it takes an exhibition outing to show up any issues with a new layout; such as sudden dead spots, or "it worked fine at home" moments, we've all had them! I hope your loco will survive, and it hasn't discouraged you from exhibiting. Best wishes, Dave.T
  14. Wow, I don't look for a while and suddenly I'm twenty pages behind!
  15. Thanks, yes there are still quite a few Mashimas around "while stocks last". I wasn't actually looking for one, I was commenting on Richard.B's Nelson build from a while ago. Like Ray, my "goto" now is Highlevel motor and box. Cheers, Dave.
  16. And considerably more comfortable for the loco crews going uphill. Or should that be "less uncomfortable"
  17. Removing the "maximum profit, whatever the cost" motive from decision making would be a FAR better move.
  18. Mashima, looks like a 1426, and Multibox, a very good combination.
  19. Sorry, here's a few more photos. I keep spotting things I've missed; cab handrails, screw-couplings, paint-chips on footplate edges etc, etc...
  20. Thanks very much Richard. I had added a mounting bracket earlier in the build, but a nameplate so thin needs support over its whole length. I think I got it flat! Robert Blake looks good, what did you power it with? Thanks, Dave.
