  1. As a former street lighting engineer, I can tell you that the cabling typically used to to supply them is insufficient in terms of current carrying capacity to recharge a motor vehicle. The LED luminares installed today consume only a few tens of watts.
  2. If you feel you might want an "alternative" car someday, either historic, kit built or handmade by a low volume manufacturer, might I respectfully suggest that NOW is a good time to buy. As advances in technology threaten to bring driverless, petroleum-less, soulless motoring for our everyday practical needs, the demand for alternatives will increase for those who want to express their individuality, or tinker with stuff, or just relive experiences if the past.

  5. Bordesley. No shelter on the platform. Wind blows continuously. And hardly any trains stop there.
  6. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/101635-stourhampton-now-three-quarters-of-a-layout/?fromsearch=1 Not much has happened since my mum and my mother in law passed away and I have been supporting my dad who has now finally agreed to go into a care home. If you find any round tuit dealers with stock, could you let me know where?
  7. My father has recently moved into a care home on account of his advancing blindness. As is customary, the home have transferred his registration to a doctor's surgery of their choice. A doctor visited him at the home yesterday and telephoned me about 6:00 last night to discuss his situation. The call lasted some 20 minutes and was entirely constructive and pro-active. They took my word that I have power of attorney, although I have to take the document in at some stage for them to copy. Sterling service from the NHS, I'm really impressed.

  10. During the GWR's expansionist phase, narrow gauge railways were built on the Channel Islands, and connected to the mainland by a fleet of company owned ferries.
  11. Stourhampton is a blend of Stourport, Stourbridge, Wolverhampton, Hampton in Arden etc. There is also a dystopian novel by the same name which fits my fictional history disturbingly well. It also featured briefly in The Archers radio program, and occupies the same physical space but a different time-space continuum as Redditch.

  14. If you are using DC analogue controllers you need a transformer for each one, or transformers with multiple electrically separate windings. Why do you need DCC as well? Each transformer should be individually fused on the mains input side. These fuses can be mounted inside the box. You cannot rely on the fuse in the plug to protect the transformers, it will only protect the mains cable. The outputs should be fused as well. Panel mounted fuse holders are convenient. Fit slow blow so in the event of a short, the controllers overload protection operates first. This is called discrimination. I used a big steel box from an old burglar alarm for mine. The box from a piece of 1970's hifi is another option.

  16. Tri-Ang Super 4 radii are 14 5/8", 17 1/4", 19 7/8". Standard track spacing is 2 5/8".
  17. I think Tri-Ang Super 4 established the train set geometry which was adopted by Peco, but in code 100 and better made. I think this is the only system where the standard turnout is a direct replacement for a 17.25" / 22.5 degree standard curve. The Hornby curved points are a modern invention and only substitute for plain curves when used in combinations as per their diagrams.
  18. blame it on the boogie - Jacksons
  19. The 'radius' of both Hornby and Peco points is not uniform throughout. With the exception of the basic setrack points, the curved routes are a combination of straights and curved sections of varying radii. In the past layout planning was best done with the templates available from Peco, now it's easier to use Xtracad or similar for layout planning. There is no virtue in understanding the geometry in detail, work empirically and you'll be fine.
  20. To what extent, if at all, does the logo on the box match / mismatch the contents? In the road haulage industry, the advertising on the trailers often has no connection with the product being moved.
