Of course the big question is what are the differences between an LMS Jocko (class 11) and a BR 350 (class 08) as I am not too sure.

Erm... is the answer one of these knows how to shunt, and the other doesn't, plus had a tribute song dedicated to them by this lot?

My LMS 7120 arrived this morning. Definitely a massive step up from my old Lima model.

It was a little hesitant starting at first, but much happier after a little bit of running in.

I presume the lack of front/back lighting is correct for this model in its as-built form, with lamp-irons provided instead. (Photos suggest that in preservation it has acquired top headlamps).
Bit cheeky that it's the same price as the light-fitted ones... I haven't checked under the body yet to see if the gubbins are there.

Very tempted to get 7128 to go with it, does anyone know if that has front/rear lighting?
The ordering page isn't massively clear as it (and the manual) state 'Working exterior lights' against all versions.
The main picture is side on, but the 'group photo' at the top looks like there's a light just above the buffer beam that isn't present on my 7120..

LMS 7120 was unfortunately not preserved. 7120 was withdrawn on the 25/01/1969 and cut up at Cashmore's (Great Bridge) in May 1970. The '7120' seen at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway in a photo from around 2002 is in fact the War Department example WD 70272/AD 601 (aka 878 Basra from the LMR). Unfortunately the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway don't help by claiming their Class 11 is LMS 7120 when infact this isn't the case.

Thanks Simon, you are the first to notice! It appears we’ve managed to produce an etch with two left sides. It will be resolved with the utmost haste, etches won’t be back until the new year now though. Anyone who has purchased a set will receive a replacement free of charge, we’ll email you all today.

Received replacements today! Many thanks for that guys! :)

  4. @Castle whilst it has been a while since any comments have been on this thread, I was wondering if you could help me?

Prior to joining Didcot, I know that GWR MICA 105860 was in the ownership of the Port of Authorities. Can you tell me if it was Port of Bristol Authority or Port of London Authority please?

With Kernow offering them at £189.99, bidding should not go much further. I'd pay the extra £10 to get a mint one from the original supplier, rather than an ebayer I don't know. .

£180 end result. Hopefully no problems with it for the sake of the buyer.

  6. It's great what you can find on ebay sometimes... whilst most ebayers would be looking at 3201 or 1465, my eye was observing the Loco wagon. My suspicions is that it is the same wagon in both negatives but at different positions, unless someone who knows Machynlleth can tell me otherwise. Happily won these both of these negatives last month :)

Now what am I going to trail behind my steam railcar ? A vey pertinent question. This must almost be the longest running saga since “ Gone With The Wind “. Well it’s been a dismal week,so here’s something to cheer us in GW terms. Though I have to say that my BR ( S ) Booster in black does cut the mustard .

4w Siphon, Cattle Wagon, Milk Tanker, Cordon to name a few suggestions.

  8. By the way I dropped the question about the GWR Macaws on Hornby's Facebook page a few days back and got a reply this morning.

Sadly the new tooled Bogie Bolster Wagons have been postponed until a later year, at this stage we aren't able to confirm what year they will be released - sorry for any inconvenience caused and when we have some news on this we will announce this via our website and social media channels.

  10. With today's announcements, at first I was disappointed that we wouldn't see a GWR Macaw from Hornby. Looking at it now though, I do not see it as much of a loss in the long term. The Bachmann one still looks good and I was happy enough to snap up Bachmann's 33-927A example last year. The Bachmann version in GWR livery is still available from what I quickly observed this evening.

For many years now, Hornby has gotten into a bad habit of not only duplicating products but also rushing them out to beat any rival products. From my own perspective, usually this tactic has almost and without fail, resulted in a disappointing outcome for Hornby.

After the Titfield Thunderbolt situation in 2022, I lost a lot of respect for Hornby and to be honest everytime I see Hornby's Loriot Y it reminds me of that episode. I don't think the Hornby Loriot Y has been good seller either seeing it's been announced again today bearing the same livery, same running number but only now coming with a British Railways Coles Crane as a wagon load.  As @Star-rider says, hopefully the new team is trying to tap into models that we have never seen before on the RTR scene. Only time will tell though...

Come on Gareth it's got to be the LSWR 10T van! Iron mink OK but not really in same class.

I voted for both LSWR Vans and Iron Mink in the end. This is the first time since I have been voting in the various end of year polling's that I couldn't choose one over the other. Both are superb models.

On a plus note, damn @tmc but I couldn't resist snapping up their last set of the E86012 set of the LSWR Cross Country 4-Coach Pack in SR Maunsell Green today!!
