41277 is based upon the Severn Valley Railway's restoration of the wagon back in 1986/87 when it joined the railway. However the livery of 41277 I have learnt this week has changed...

  2. Does anyone know Nick Deacon at all? He's the author of the excellent Workaday Wagons articles that appear in British Railways Illustrated from time to time and if possible I'd like to ask him some questions I have.

On another note, does anyone know when the Workaday Wagon articles first started to appear in British Railways Illustrated please? I have enjoyed seeing the various wagons he has found but would like to start from the beginning if possible now.

A change like that would only have happened with a replacement boiler ..... did the loco have a major works visit between the photo and 1948 ? ( where are the record cards ? )

Looking at Yeadon today, the boiler 8516 had at the time the photo was took was "4105 (ex7476) 29/9/45".  As to works visits, it says she visited Stratford works between 22/7 - 29/9/45.

  4. A few weeks back on Facebook, I asked if the Hornby model B12/3 R3544 8527 was a suitable candidate to replicate the LNER B12/3 8516 in her WW2 NE livery as per the photo on P.16 of Yeadon Vol.7.

Following their replies, I've did further checking and I found that I will need more photos of 8516 or go for the BR version of the Hornby LNER B12. By 1948, she had had the four plugs on the firebox replaced with handholes. Unfortunately the Yeadon photo doesn't show whether they had been replaced by 1945 or earlier. Is there a way of finding out when this was done on 8516?

  5. For several years, the Severn Valley Railway had two Caledonian Diagram 67 Goods Vans (302080 at Kidderminster and 304543 at Hampton Loade). These are now at Ferryhill awaiting restoration. During their time at the Valley, 304543 was at one time in it's former Cadbury livery. Does anyone have photos of 304543 or the other three vans (two turned into flatbeds, then cut up) in this livery please?

P.S. @peter220950do you still have your photo of 304543 at all please?

  6. Looking on the Unofficial SVR Page on Facebook, it seems GWR 813 will be not be attending the South Devon Railway for their 150th celebrations or the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway.

On Saturday she was failed due to a 'broken spring'. Upon further examination, it has been learnt that the casting which is part of her rear spring housing under the coal bunker has failed. The casting will have to be removed, a new pattern made, then the new casting machined and refitted.

Really saddening to read this as she was amazing to see working over the last several days at the Gala... 😢

  7. Finally started to sort my photos from the SVR Spring Gala's Preview Day and Spring Gala events. An outstanding four days (three out of four myself) and three amazing visitors. My highlight being the LSWR S15 506 and being able to see GWR 813 working once again after last seeing her work in the Spring Gala of 2019.

    Well done to the SVR!!

  8. Question on 56/6600 liveries. As some of you may have seen on the GWR Modellers Facebook page, I've had a GWR 5600 done in War Black with Grotesque lettering. Following this I had a thought hit me and I was wondering if anyone could answer this...

I've seen 56/6600's in GREAT WESTERN, GWR Shirtbutton, GWR Warblack/Post Green with Grotesque lettering but I cannot recall seeing a 56/6600 in the post war Green livery and lettering that Bachmann has outshopped these engines in over the years. Has anyone ever seen this livery and if so where?
